Sunshine Blogger Award #2

Last week I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by the lovely Hunida – (thank you for the nomination!) Make sure you check out her blog if you haven’t already! Enjoy this post!

Rules:

1. Thank the blogger who nominated you.
2. Answer the 11 questions asked.
3. Nominate 11 other bloggers and ask them 11 new questions.
4. List the rules and include the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post.

Hunida’s Questions:

1. Are you okay with setting your alarm to a time not ending in five or zero?

I think I would be ok with it but I prefer the time to end in a five or a zero, it feels more satisfying.

2. What do you regret spending your money on the most?

I’m quite frugal with money but probably makeup and clothes that I haven’t worn much.

3. How many shots of tequila (or your alcohol of choice) does it take to get you super, super drunk?

I’ve never been drunk and I don’t drink alcohol so I have no idea!

4. Do you like reality shows or do you hate them? If you like them, which one is your all-time favorite?

I’m indifferent, some I like, some I don’t. I used to really love the British version of The X Factor before it became scandalous and over sensationalised. Now I don’t watch very many reality shows but I do enjoy Britain’s Got Talent, The Block NZ (a renovation show), My Kitchen Rules Australia and I watch Strictly Come Dancing if there’s one of my favourite celebrities on it.

5. If any, what superstitions do you believe in?

If you break a mirror you get seven years bad luck.

6. On your birthday, what kind of cake do you usually request?

I don’t have cake every year, there’s probably been more years I haven’t had cake than years I have. I love Victoria Sponge though, the combination of the jam and whipped cream with the soft vanilla sponge is a classic!

7. Do you still blow out candles on your birthday?

I don’t tend to have cake but if I do I like candles.

8. How old did you turn and what did you do for your most favorite birthday celebration?

My 21st birthday was happy and memorable. I went out for dinner with some friends and family and went clubbing afterwards. When I came home from clubbing my mum had decorated the table and living room with balloons and a banner and presents were all over the table. I wrote a blog post about it *HERE*.

9. What is your favourite online store to shop on?

ASOS because they have free returns or Glassons because they have super fast delivery.

10. Do you ever eat raw ramen noodles as a snack?

I’ve never tried ramen noodles before.

11. What is your absolute favorite candle scent?

I like scents that aren’t too strong and I’m not the most adventurous. Can’t go wrong with a simple vanilla!

Nominees:

My Questions:

  1. What is your favourite online store to shop on?
  2. What is your favourite social media platform and why?
  3. What does love mean to you?
  4. What country do you want to visit that you haven’t before?
  5. Tea or coffee? How do you take it?
  6. What camera do you use for blog photos?
  7. Favourite part of your makeup routine?
  8. One style trend you hate?
  9. Hardest part about running a blog?
  10. What topping is usually on your pizza?
  11. What makes you feel better when you’re sad?

There’s no pressure to accept but I’d love to see your answers to my questions! Hope you liked this post and learnt something new about me.

Would You Rather?

I first came across this tag on Angela’s blog and commented saying how fun these questions seemed to answer. Angela is a fellow New Zealand blogger and her writing style is quirky and unique. She’s branched out into videos which I also enjoy watching. Things have felt serious lately (not blog wise) and I wanted some light hearted amusement. If you want to do this tag, feel free to leave a link in the comments so we can all see your answers!

Would you rather…

1. Pick the year your die or pick the way you die?

The way I die. I’d pick something peaceful and painless. I wouldn’t like to know when I’d die because there would be no spontaneity and I would anticipate when it would happen which, ironically, would stop me living life.

2. Have a sport stadium named after you or have a university named after you?

I’m not very sporty so university!

3. Have free Apple products forever or have free Wi-Fi wherever you go?

Free Wi-Fi, the money I would save on mobile data and internet could pay for the Apple products.

4. Fulfill your biggest wish or resolve your biggest regret?

I don’t think there’s anything major I regret so fulfill my biggest wish. I don’t know what the wish would be though.

5. Have your own private island or have your own private jet?

Private island. It would be nice to have somewhere to get away and relax and I could let close friends and family visit for free too so I wouldn’t get lonely.

6. Be able to read minds or be able to travel at light speed?

Travel at light speed, it would save so much time sitting in traffic. I’d hate to know what everyone else is thinking all the time. There are circumstances it would be useful but it could also cause a lot of pain.

7. Have $1 million in Amazon gift cards or have $100,000 in real money?

$100,000 in real money. I’m a saver and don’t shop much on Amazon anyway.

8. Be best friends forever with your favourite celebrity or date your celebrity crush for only 2 years?

Be best friends with my favourite celebrity.

9. Have free gas for 25 years or have your dream car?

Free gas for 25 years. Similar to question three, with all the money I’d save on gas I could buy my dream car.

10. Be a ninja or be a pirate?

Ninja. I don’t want to get seasick.

11. Continue on with your life or restart your life?

Continue on. My life wouldn’t be how it is now and I wouldn’t be the person I am if I hadn’t gone through what I’ve experienced. Life isn’t about being perfect, it’s about making the best of what you’ve got.

12. Live the life of fame and wealth or live in Harry Potter’s world?

Harry Potter’s world. I look a bit like Hermione/Ginny already!

13. Have the ability to read minds or have the ability to see the future?

See into the future but only for good and when required. I wouldn’t look into the future all the time, only if I had to make a big decision and needed confirmation I was making the right choice.

Do you agree with my answers?

Hope you enjoyed this post, thanks for reading!

Q&A: The Answers

Hi my lovelies! Three weeks ago I put the call out for any questions you had which could be used for a Q&A post. Thank you so much to everyone here on the blog and on Instagram for your contributions. I was sent a bunch of really interesting questions, the majority of which I’ve never been asked before. I hope you enjoy reading my answers!

WordPress

A Beautiful Thing asked:

1. How did you and your boyfriend meet?

I knew this question would come up because I’ve never mentioned it before. In short, we met through Tinder. I’d literally only been on Tinder a couple of weeks before we met in real life and shortly after meeting I deleted the app. I know Tinder can get a bad rap but I think it’s down to how you use it. There are people that use it to play games and for hook ups but I’m not that kind of girl. I have standards and morals and I wouldn’t get myself into a situation that I would later regret. I was picky and didn’t swipe right for just anybody. I went into using Tinder with an open mind and I didn’t know I’d get a boyfriend out of it. I was true to myself and it seems to have paid off.

2. What’s your favourite thing about being in a relationship?

Always having someone to talk to and share things with. Nearly every week I spend two or three days at my boyfriend’s house when I’m not at work and the days I don’t get to see him we always talk. I love the little things; being asked about my day, daily good morning and good night texts and spending time together. I feel more confident since meeting my boyfriend and I have a great reason to wake up every day.

3. What places/sites would you recommenced seeing in NZ?

I’ve barely traveled around my own country so I don’t feel like the best person to answer this question but I’ll try…

When you fly into NZ you land in Auckland so I’d recommend spending time there for the amount of things there are to do: malls, theme park, zoo, restaurants etc. It is the largest city so there’s always something going on! I live in a place called Rotorua which you might like if you want to learn more about culture and experience natural wonders like geysers. The South Island is popular with tourists in terms of landscape. If you’re a fan of nature and outdoors you will see some lovely sights.

British Girl In An Aussie World asked:

4. If you could only use ONE makeup brand for the rest of your life what would it be and why?

I’m a big fan of Rimmel, especially their Match Perfection foundation, mascaras and lipsticks. Rimmel is an affordable brand with quality to match!

5. How old were you when you started wearing makeup?

Properly, I’d say 13 or 14. When we’d have mufti (non-uniform) days at school I would always look forward to doing my makeup. I’d wear my mum’s blue mascara and use her eyeshadow palettes because I didn’t have any of my own. During my teens I started expanding my own makeup collection and I still have my first eyeshadow palette.

6. What is your favourite thing about The UK?

The quality of music and musicians. I listen to a lot of British artists.

Also, the fact my boyfriend is British. We’re meant to be, right?!

Helpless Whilst Drying asked:

7. If all your lipsticks disappeared, what would be the first three you repurchase?

I’m cheating and choosing four: MAC Syrup/Brave (I can’t make up my mind which one), BYS – Fuschia Surprise, Australis – Gangsta Rap and Frambourjoise by Bourjois. All my favourite bold colours covered as well as a neutral/everyday colour.

Lifestyle Bites 3 asked:

8. What is your main step to contour and sculpt?

I cannot and don’t try to contour. I sometimes sweep some bronzer over my cheeks and that is it. I don’t know a lot about contouring but the 3 shape works well for the face outline and the W motion over the nose and tops of the cheeks.

9. How do you keep track on the lifespan of a product?

I don’t follow product lifespans religiously and tend to go with my instincts. If something smells bad and the texture is off I’ll throw it away but I’ve never had any reactions and don’t have any sensitive areas. Some mascaras I keep past the three month mark and lipsticks I tend to keep for a couple of years.

Instagram

nadine_blewett asked:

10. What is your favourite drugstore lipstick?

BYS – Fuschia Surprise. It’s my shade! A good alternative is Lollipop by Revlon.

angwooly asked:

11. Do you prefer getting up early or staying up late?

Depends on my mood. I used to be more of a night owl a couple of years ago but most nights I’m in bed around 11pm.

12. If you could only use one makeup product what would you choose?

Lipstick. I would be lost without my bright, bold shades.

13. If you could teleport anywhere in the word right now, where would you choose and why?

New Zealand is pretty awesome but it’s a dream of mine to visit The UK. I’d also like a getaway to somewhere resort-like such as Bora Bora and relax by the water, get massages and laze around – it would be bliss right now.

stashmatters asked:

14. What’s your dream job?

I want to be a singer!

15. If you won $10 million, what would you do?

Be boring and put most of it in the bank. I’d give some to those who I care about and build my dream house and travel. I can’t name every single thing I’d do because in the moment I might make a different decision and an opportunity could arise as a result of a decision I make.

16. What’s your fondest childhood memory?

This sounds a little bit sad but I don’t know I have one. I remember having a happy childhood and although we didn’t have a lot of money I wasn’t unhappy. I always had clothes on my back, food to eat and a mother who put her children first. One of my favourite things to do was sing along to Shania Twain and do my hair like hers. That resonates with me because years later I rediscovered her music and now I’m able to appreciate it more. Listening to Come On Over always makes me nostalgic.

17. What’s your biggest regret?

Sacrificing my happiness for the sake of others. Not standing up for myself and not being able to say no.

18. Pizza, hotdog or hamburger?

Pizza – thin crust pepperoni with barbecue sauce! 🍕

lovekylie1 asked:

19. Are you an only child?

No. I have one brother who is three years older than me.

I had a ball reading through your questions and answering them! Which answer was your favourite? Did any surprise you? Let me know if you’d like another Q&A in the future!

Giveaway Winner Announced + Q&A

Giveaway Winner Announced + Q&AHello and happy Monday! I’m very excited to be able to announce the winner of my first ever blog giveaway! I selected the winner over the weekend and I also gathered everything together to wrap up ready to send out. Thank you to everyone who entered and helped me celebrate two years of blogging! Each entry was recorded in an Excel spreadsheet which you can view HERE. The entries were recorded in the order people entered and assigned a number. I then used a random number generator (Random.org) to select a winner.

And the winner is…

Bronagh from Bronagh’s Beauty and Books!

June Giveaway WinnerCongratulations Bronagh! I will be in touch with you very shortly so I can get your prize sent out to you  🙂

The Q&A:

One of the rules to enter the giveaway was to ask me a question I could answer in a Q&A post. Today I will be answering all of the questions for you!

Dannii asked: What one era do you love the makeup from the most? (i.e. 50’s red lip and simple eyes).

I love the 80s for the big, bright colours! I am a huge fan of a bright lip and my favourite shade to wear is fuchsia which was pretty fashionable in the 80s. (I think!)

Bronagh asked: What’s your favourite casual/comfy look?

Casual – I love jeans and leggings as you can dress them up or down and they’re so versatile.

Comfy – I am a fan of pyjamas. I don’t spend all day in them but I always used to put them on as soon as I came home from work.

Alice asked: Is there one makeup product you’ve used that surprised you because it was much better than you expected it to be?

I’m going to go with the Rimmel Match Perfection Loose Powder in Transparent. I had never tried or thought that I needed a setting powder before but over the past couple of months I have been really impressed with it. There’s no excess oil on my face (which may also be down to my change in concealer) and this powder has become a staple in my everyday makeup routine. I also wear Rimmel’s Match Perfection foundation so the two products go well together.

Gwawr asked: What made you want to start blogging?

Originally I wanted to start blogging after becoming obsessed with Filofax users and their blogs all about organisation. After about six months in at the start of 2015 I realised my posts were starting to become more beauty orientated so I decided to take the blog down that avenue.

Sangeetha asked: What is your ever lusting makeup brand that you always wanted to try? And, why?

I always wanted to try MAC for their lipsticks because they were always talked about in such high regard. Now that I have tried MAC, I’d love to try Chanel purely because it’s my namesake! It’s only fitting Chanelle tries something from Chanel right?!?!

Rachael asked: Where’s your favourite place to eat out, and is there a dish you can’t resist when visiting?

Eating out makes me nervous because I am a fussy eater so I don’t do it too often and I don’t have a favourite place I visit regularly. A dish I can’t resist, fish and chips always gets my vote, fries and crispy batter – yum!

Dal asked: Where do you see your blog in the next year?

Next year my blog will be three years old which is crazy to think about! I’d like to host another giveaway or two and I’d like to improve my photography skills. I’ve been thinking about investing in a proper SLR camera so if you have any camera recommendations, please leave them in the comments  🙂

Kaily asked: Where do you want to be in 5 years?

In an ideal world living in England, doing something in the music industry and having someone special to share my life with. All I really want though is to be happy.

Coline asked: What are your top 5 summer perfumes?

I don’t know if I’ve ever owned more than five perfumes, let alone five summer scents. I will list fragrances I have been wearing a lot lately and fragrances I have loved for a long time:

  1. Juicy Couture – Viva la Juicy
  2. Britney Spears – Radiance
  3. Revlon – Fire and Ice
  4. Britney Spears – Curious: In Control
  5. The Body Shop Black Musk EDT

Marie asked: Have you experienced times where you don’t feel like blogging? How did you cope with it?

A little bit. Some days I don’t feel motivated but I don’t like to fall behind with posts so I crack on and it always feels good when a post is published and readers are enjoying it. There’s no shame in taking a blogging break for a few days or a couple or weeks (however long you need). Very rarely do I not enjoy or feel like blogging, I’m always thinking of post ideas or how I can make improvements and be creative.

Cindy asked: How can I prevent split ends from flat ironing?

This is not something I have personal experience with but I’d say as long as you trim your hair regularly to keep split ends at bay and use shampoo and conditioner that prevents breakages that would be a good start.

Karen asked: If you could be any celebrity in the world for just one day who would it be and why?

I have answered this before and my answer is still the same: Kylie Minogue. She seems to have such a glamourous lifestyle and I’d love to perform a concert of her hits for the night!

Paulina asked: Do you have any beauty or makeup products that you have loved for years?

I have used Simple moisturiser for years and I am very reluctant to change that. It has never caused my skin any problems and compared to a lot of moisturisers you get a lot of product for your money.

Nicola asked: Who is your biggest beauty inspiration?

I take inspiration from many different people and different looks but ultimately, I’d say my mum. I love listening to her talk about her makeup and I always trust her opinion on something. Her signature style, while different from my own, is bright eyeshadows and blue mascara and I always think she looks so nice. Anyone that can do their complete face in four minutes is an inspiration!

Molly asked: Whose blogs do you read the most (either famous bloggers or lesser known bloggers?)

No word of a lie, I scroll through every post in my reader almost on a daily basis. I may not comment on everyone’s (sorry) but I do see them. As for famous bloggers, I always look forward to posts from Lily Pebbles and Vivianna Does Makeup.

Stashy asked: Can you name your favourite makeup look from a music video? and Which musician do you think should come out with a makeup line or do a collab (if a collab, with what brand? i.e. MAC, Becca etc.?)

  1. Kylie’s makeup from her Love At First Sight video. Her whole look is so edgy with the bright orange bangle, one K earring in her right ear and that green eyeshadow.
  2. I think a makeup line from Britney Spears would be quite interesting, she has a lot of memorable hits and looks and is a pop icon. I’m going to cop out and say I’d like to see a Britney/MAC collaboration purely because I know that MAC is sold in a lot of places which means more people could get their hands on the range. The shades could be named after her songs similar to Ellie Goulding’s MAC collaboration.

Rachel asked: What is your favourite makeup and clothing brand at the moment?

My favourite makeup brand has to be Rimmel purely because I own a lot of their products and they never leave me disappointed! Clothing-wise I’d say Cotton On, I have bought a number of clothing pieces from them lately and they are stylish and affordable at the same time.

Yazzi asked: What do you do when you’re stressed and need some “me time”

Take a deep breath and create a to do list in my head so I can evaluate what I need to achieve, breaking things down helps. Listening to music or reading a book helps to relax and distract me too.

Adele asked: In the world of celebrity, whose beauty/fashion look inspires you and/or do you particularly like – and why?

Victoria Beckham – she always looks well put together and the pieces she wears are gorgeous! Her style is effortless.

Thank you so much for all your questions and to everyone who entered the giveaway – a huge congratulations again to Bronagh for being selected as the winner! Your prize will be on it’s way to you soon and I hope you enjoy it!

Ask Me Anything: The Answers!

Ask Me Anything: The Answers!Hey there, happy Monday! Welcome to another week! Today I bring you all the answers to the questions I received as part of my blog Q&A. Big thanks to my lovely blogging friends who took time out to submit questions and I hope you enjoy reading my answers. Let’s get started!

Kaily (Hello Kaily) asked:

1) What is the one goal that you hope to achieve more than anything?

Ultimately my main goal is to be happy. That might not sound big or extreme or exciting but it’s something that I haven’t felt I’ve truly been able to achieve yet and I’d like to think one day I’ll get there. Although I don’t have a particular idea of what happiness looks like, I’d know it once I got there. I do have smaller goals and dreams that would also contribute to my overall happiness. Expectations can lead to disappointment but I have the mindset that eventually everything will be okay.

Cos asked:

2) What is on your lipstick wishlist?

Lipstick is my absolute favourite makeup item. Surprisingly, I haven’t had any on my mental wishlist for a while now. I would like to try more of the Revlon Lip Butters if I got the chance (unfortunately they have been discontinued in New Zealand) and I’d love to add MAC lipsticks in the shades, Mehr, All Fired Up and Sunny Seoul to my collection!

Sinead (Continuing With M.E.) asked:

3) What are your tips for bloggers who have been blogging for a while but may have lost some motivation?

Don’t be afraid to take a break if you need to. We all need to rest and recuperate from time to time. Keep searching for inspiration: YouTube videos, posts from your favourite bloggers etc. stand back and think, “What do I want to share with people?” or “Does my writing come across the way I want it to?” If you love blogging enough you won’t give it up.

4) Do you have any places that you want to travel to or visit? And why?

Ever since I was 12 years old I’ve wanted to go to The UK. I have no idea where that came from but it’s always been something I’ve wanted to do. Pictures look beautiful and I know people complain about the weather but most of the time I prefer the rain and cold.

5) What are your tips on promoting and building up a following on social media?

Keep at it! Hard work always pays off and it shows how dedicated you are. Take time out to reply to as many people as you can. Don’t feel you have to follow everyone back either (I certainly don’t), if something doesn’t interest you don’t do it just for the sake of coming across as popular.

6) What do your friends and family think about your blog?

Until recently I didn’t tell anyone I knew in real life about my blog. I’m definitely not embarrassed by it but I felt that they might not understand why I started it. I posted a link to my blog on my personal Facebook page which I’m sure most people didn’t even see. If they visited or know about it or not, I’m not worried.

Adele (The Girl In Glasses) asked:

7) If you could be another person for just one day, who would you be and why?

I’m gonna say Kylie Minogue. Her lifestyle is so glamorous and she’s one of my biggest idols so I’d love to perform a concert of her songs for a night. Also, she has mastered walking in heels!

8) What would your life motto be?

While I don’t live by it, I think there is some relevance to YOLO (You Only Live Once). Embrace life and make the most of it! Try not to have regrets because at the time it was what you wanted.

9) What was the last movie that you watched?

I actually have no idea! It’s been years since I went to the cinema and there’s a heap of movies taped off TV I haven’t got round to watching yet.

10) What is your star sign?

Aquarius. I don’t know all the characteristics of my star sign and I don’t read too much into astrology. If anyone can tell me what being an Aquarius means, please do!

11) Do you have a favourite word?

When I was a kid I used to love spelling the word ‘people’ – glad I’m over that now. I quite like the word lovely, it’s one I use often and it can be used to describe a person or as a term of endearment.

Claire (Eclairs Cares) asked:

12) What are your ‘feel good’ songs?

I literally have an iTunes playlist called ‘good vibes :)’ which always puts me in good mood when I listen to it. I can’t list every song that makes me happy but I’ve narrowed it down to 10 favourites, a mixture of current and old faithfuls.

  1. Years & Years – King

Q&A Postponed

Q&A PostponedHi everyone! Hope you’ve had a good week! I know I promised you the answers to my Q&A today but unfortunately they’re not ready…

Being honest, it’s a mixture of laziness/family illness. I haven’t got around to typing up the post to the standard I would like and don’t want to hit publish until I’m ready. I decided the best thing to do would be wait until next week so I can get it all ready over the weekend.

This also gives you a chance to submit any final questions you may have for me:

  1. Leave a comment below or on the original Ask Me Anything post with your question.
  2. Email your questions to chanelleblogs@gmail.com.

Sorry for the extremely short post today. I hope you all have a lovely weekend and see you Monday!

Ask Me Anything!

Ask Me AnythingHi everyone!

I’ve been thinking of doing a Q&A on my blog for a while and giving you the chance to ask any burning questions you may have. I will be completely honest and try to answer your questions as best I can. If there’s anything you would like to know regarding blogging, advice, beauty, social media, more personal questions if you wish, hobbies, family/friends, etc. feel free to ask!

I’ve come up with a few different ways in which you can ask me questions:

  1. Leave your questions in the comments below.
  2. Email your questions to chanelleblogs@gmail.com.

All of my answers will be up on the blog on October 9 2015 (two weeks from today). You’re more than welcome to ask multiple questions so don’t be shy!

I will publish your name and blog along with your question, but if you’d prefer to remain anonymous, that’s totally fine. If there’s anything personal you’d like to ask and don’t want your answer published, by all means drop me an email. I will keep everything completely confidential and if you’re just looking for someone to talk to or a way to get things out, don’t hesitate. I’m a very caring and empathetic person and I always enjoy giving back to people and trying to help. If this post can help anyone in any form then I’m happy!

Looking forward to seeing all your questions and sitting down to answer them!

Lots of love,

Meet the Blogger – Jonas

Hi, my name is Jonas Walkerson. I am in my twenties and I am from Germany. Two years ago I started changing my life for the better, and I am improving it constantly. My blog is about these improvements and how to achieve them. You will find useful tips and personal experiences. Maybe I can help you improve your life as well!

Check out Jonas’ blog Jonas Walkerson!

1. When did you begin blogging?

I started on October 6th, 2014.

2. How did you decide on a name for your blog?

This one is quite easy: it’s my name!

3. What inspired you to start your blog?

I feel like there are a lot of people out there who do not make the most out of themselves. I was like that. But I changed my life. I wanted to share my experiences.

4. What is your favourite thing about running a blog?

It keeps you active and creative. It is nice to see people all over the world visiting your blog.

5. What are your must read blogs?

The Daily Post (for some weird reason I think this blog is quite popular :D. Anyway, read it! Especially suitable for new bloggers).

The Start Up Chapter (Blog of a British IT consultant intending to build up his own start up).

6. What do you want to achieve with your blog?

I’d love to have some followers and (at least to some extent) discussions through comments with the community.

7. What advice do you have for new bloggers? Tips, pointers etc.

It takes time to get the recognition you deserve. Hang in there!

8. What keeps you blogging?

It helps me improve my writing and English skills. It also helps me to formulate my thoughts.

Quick fire questions:

9. What was the last song you downloaded or bought?

It was a mixtape by German DJ and producer Alle Farben.

10. If you could invite any three celebrity guests or famous people to a dinner party, who would they be?

Michael Jordan, Elon Musk, Bill Gates.

11. Favourite colour?

Blue.

12. What’s your guilty pleasure?

Sleeping in.

13. Finish this sentence. I wish…

…I slept in today!

14. Where else can readers find you online?

You can find me on Facebook (Jonas Walkerson), Twitter (@JonasWalkerson) and Google+ (Jonas Walkerson)

15. Lastly, is there anything extra you’d like to mention you haven’t already?

No 🙂
