Inspired by ALOHA‘s promotion of good health and happiness, today’s post is all about achieving the perfect summer glow. I know it is still only winter in New Zealand but I couldn’t resist. I also hope this post will be useful to those of you who live in the Northern Hemisphere where summer, sadly, is almost over. *sob* Not only will I be sharing some of my favourite tips but I have also come up with two makeup looks that can be used to create the illusion of a glow all year round.
One of the easiest ways to achieve a summer glow is through the use of fake tan. If you’re pale like me it can be hard to find a natural colour and can end up making you look worse than before you applied the product. Personally I don’t use fake tan and don’t mind that my skin is pale, I’ve learnt to embrace it. I can’t really tan in the sun either, I stay the same colour or end up burnt. Extra Tip: Always wear sunblock, especially if it stays sunny during winter where you live as the sun can still damage your skin.
Diet plays a huge part in helping you achieve a glow in my opinion. What you eat can affect your skin, your mood and as a result your confidence and how you feel about yourself. I’m lucky that as a teenager I didn’t get a lot of acne and drinking water for just about every glass of fluid also helps keep acne at bay. Sure, there are times I get a spot but it doesn’t linger for very long. I try to eat fresh fruit throughout the year, but particularly in summer, fruit is a really easy go-to option that can be used in salads, smoothies and plenty of other dishes. Make sure you pop over to the Recipe section of ALOHA’s website to check out the array of tasty treats they have on offer.
I could not get that summer glow without my trusty Simple moisturiser, I’ve used it for years and it never lets me down. Somedays wearing just that gives me a glow. I find my skin isn’t as dry in the summer so I don’t necessarily have to wear as many makeup products. If you sweat easily or find your makeup can’t withstand the heat try using a primer as they aim to prolong the wear of makeup while boosting coverage and still providing texture.
I had a lot of fun creating two makeup looks for this post. One is more dewy and simple, while the other is all about bright, punchy colours. I used four core products and simply changed things up for my eyes, lips and cheeks.
Left to Right: Simple Kind To Skin Light Hydrating Moisturiser, Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation in 081 Fair Ivory, Maybelline The Falsies Mascara and Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 15 Fair.
Look #1: Summertime Pastels
I was drawn to cool, pastel tones for this look. Not only do these colours suit my complexion, they are beautiful and subtle enough to add something special without going over the top. If you prefer simple makeup I’m sure you’d like this look.
Eyes: Qianyu Eyeshadow Palette – I applied the bluey-purple shade second from the left all over my lid.
Cheeks: Dainty Doll Wonderbalm
Lips: Dainty Doll Lipstick 004 Material World
Look #2: Summertime Brights
I’m a fan of brights, so I wanted to incorporate them into my second look which is based around traditional, summery colours. If you like pops of colour and making your features stand out this one’s for you.
Eyes: Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoo ’70 Barely Branded’
Cheeks: Dainty Doll Powder Blush 004 You Are My Sunshine
Lips: Revlon Lip Butter 015 Tutti Frutti
Achieving a summer glow doesn’t have to be difficult and I hope both of these looks have provided you with some inspiration. My initial vision for this post was to demonstrate how glowing skin can be achieved all year round and for me makeup plays a huge part in that alongside my diet. Makeup makes me feel more confident which in turn radiates happiness and to me that is the best kind of glow!
I hope you enjoyed this post and be sure to let me know what you think of the looks I created. Do you have any tips for achieving a summer glow of your own? Share them below!

Thank you Stephie, glad you like the looks 🙂 Mmm that seems odd, I wonder if I’ll be asked to do the same?
