Palette Review: Makeup Revolution Iconic 2

Hello lovelies! Today I’m reviewing an eyeshadow palette which is something I don’t do a lot on the blog. I don’t own a lot of eyeshadow palettes, less than 10, but one I’ve been loving lately is Iconic 2 by Makeup Revolution. I have owned this palette for a year now and only recently did I discover how great it is. Around the time I purchased the palette loads of bloggers were talking about Makeup Revolution and how affordable their products are and how good the quality is. This palette is a dupe for the Naked 2 by Urban Decay and for those looking for a cheaper alternative or a nice everyday palette you won’t be disappointed!

From The Website:

“THE ultimate
palettes with ultra high payoff.

A perfect mix of pearl, shimmer and matte shades. Totally collectable and a pure sellout.

Ingredients: Mica, Talc, Magnesium Stearate, Paraffinum Liquidum, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Polybutene, Dimethicone, Methlyparaben, Propylparaben May Contain: (+/-) TITANIUM DIOXIDE, CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499, CI 15850, CI 77510, CI 77742, CI 77007, CI 16035, CI 42090″

The palette contains three matte shades: the cream on the far left, the light brown towards the centre of the palette and the black on the right. The remaining nine shades are a mixture of pearls and shimmers. What’s the difference between a pearl and a shimmer?

Packaging

The palette is housed in rectangular plastic casing like most palettes these days but the plastic does feel sturdy. It’s not the most compact if you are traveling and the palette doesn’t contain a mirror so you can’t apply on the go. The palette does include an applicator but I don’t use it. The packaging gets messy from the shimmer but it’s easy enough to wipe over with a cotton round and micellar water.

Application

Most of the shades in the palette apply as you see them in the pan. As most of these shades are shimmery I prefer to apply them with my ring finger. I find this creates less fallout and offers more pigmentation. A lot of the glitter gets stuck in the bristles when I have used brushes and you spend more time building up layers to get good pigment. All shades feel buttery to swatch but there are a few that don’t perform as well when they are on the eyelids. (I can’t speak for the black as I don’t use black eyeshadow). Silver is one of my favourite eyeshadow colours to wear but the two silvery shades in this palette disappoint me. They are a little patchy and don’t give a nice frosted look that other silvers I’ve tried do. These might be better to use as base shades with one or two other shadows applied over the top.

Swatches

The shades are swatched in the same order they appear in the palette.

Pros

+ Affordable dupe for the Naked palettes – this cost me around $8.00 (NZD)

+ Shade pigmentation is good and lasts well on the eyelids

+ Shades in this palette work for a number of skin tones and a variety of looks

Cons

– The lack of matte shades might be a deal breaker if you don’t like shimmer

– If you have sensitive eyes the glitter could irritate them

to sum up

This eyeshadow palette is one I will be reaching for a lot more now I have taken time to use the shades and create looks with them. My go to eyeshadow palette is still Maybelline’s ‘The Nudes’ but I like the shimmer and pigmentation the Iconic 2 offers. My perfect palette would be a cross between the two as I love the sparkly shades ‘The Nudes’ lacks. Value for money wise, the Iconic 2 can’t be beat and I’m glad to have it in my arsenal!

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed my review!

Have you tried this palette or any dupes for the Naked 2?

I have a tonne of their palettes lol including this one! The black shadow at the end works really well as a subtle eyeliner if you’re not crazy about wearing it all over the lid 😉 Lx

This palette is quite similar to The Nudes but is has way more shimmer – in a good way! I’ve also got the Iconic 1 which is a dupe for the original Naked palette so I’ll have to try that out more too 🙂 I use The Nudes palette all the time too xx

I have this palette! And I’m the opposite of you – I ended up referring the Makeup Revolution one over the Maybelline. I remember you mentioning that in the comments of my post. 😛 I am impressed how nice these shadows wear on my lids, I wasn’t expecting much considering how inexpensive this is!

I remember your post on the two palettes well! I am starting to use the Iconic 2 more but one of the main reasons I love the Maybelline more is how travel friendly and compact it is. It’s a sturdy palette and if I want a sparkly, shimmery look there are still a few shades in there that I can use to achieve it. The Iconic 2 shimmers are very pretty and they do last well. I can justify both palettes haha 😛
