Hello, hello! My two year blogging anniversary is coming up very shortly (June) and I thought it would be interesting to look back and reflect on five things I didn’t do until I started blogging. I’m sure there will be a few we can all agree on and maybe even something you hadn’t considered. I hope you enjoy today’s post and be sure to let me know if you do any of these!
#1. Swatch and photograph makeup before using it – This one is pretty common if you’re a beauty blogger. There’s just something beautiful about a shiny, brand new lipstick or eyeshadow that hasn’t been touched yet that makes it more image-worthy. Despite this, the popularity of images that show the product looking a little more lived in are growing.
#2. Wear nude lipsticks frequently – Before I became a blogger I didn’t own any nude lipsticks, nope, not a one. It was bold and bright all the way and while bold, bright lips are still my favourite, I’ve really come to appreciate the subtlety and beauty a nude lip brings. A nude lipstick is one of my holy grail makeup products and now I wouldn’t be without one. Nude lips have taught me how to accentuate other areas of my face to create light and shade and balance out a look.
#3. Share images of myself with confidence – Deep down I am still camera shy and don’t spend hours of time posing and snapping away to get that perfect selfie but I’m not as nervous to include an image of myself in a blog post as I used to be. There’s something about being open and honest and sharing some of my most personal thoughts here in this place that has helped my confidence blossom and grow.
#4. Try new things – I’m not talking about anything extreme here like going skydiving or swimming with sharks but I feel since I’ve been blogging my mind has opened up a bit more. Whether that’s in relation to trying new beauty products and recommendations or browsing different websites. Before I started blogging, pretty much the only sites I visited all related to music and my favourite musicians. I never used Pinterest until a year ago and I’ve come to love watching vloggers on YouTube. The great thing about having new experiences is being able to share them and turn them into blog posts.
#5. Spend most of my free time thinking about blogging – I don’t mean this in a negative way at all, in fact I think it helps my creativeness. I’m always looking out for different post ideas and ways I can improve my writing and my blog. Setting out a schedule for posts helps you keep organised and lets you prioritise and micromanage what needs to be done right now today as well as next week. If you have some free time and the weather’s good for example, try and photograph in bulk, you’ll only need to set everything up once and your images will be ready to edit whenever you need them.
Do you do any of these yourself? Perhaps there’s something of your own you’ve adopted since becoming a blogger, share it below!
Great post Chanelle, happy almost 2 year blogiversary! I feel you on the photographing products sometimes
There’s things I’ve had for weeks before I’ve had chance to photograph them in good light so they stay unused whilst I really want to start playing with them!

Thanks lovely, I can’t believe how quickly that 2 years has gone. Bad lighting is a pain, makes good photographs harder to get x

Oops sent early. I never used to swatch or take photos before blogging. I agree with Rachael too, I end up not using products for ages as I need to take photos of them! X

If I’m not using a product straight away I’ll either wait to take photos or take photos in advance so I don’t forget lol x

All of these points are so true! Haha I love it. Especially, “swatch and photograph makeup before using it”. The guilt I feel when I open a new product and use it without taking pics is unreal! Xx

Those five points are unbelievably true as a blogger, we love to explore, swatch, click pictures, pose with confidence, more knowledge about the product and finally, always thinking about blogging. Happy midweek Chanelle

Check, check, check, check and check! Though, I could spend some more time on that last one. I’ve been quite snowed under recently but I’ve really missed blogging and have built up quite the journal of ideas!

I definitely identify with #1, #4 and #5! 😆
My bf thinks I’m so weird for taking so many pictures of my makeup.

I tend to photograph everything I need for the next months blogposts (you can never take too many photos of makeup 😉) and save them in a folder that way I can access whenever I need them X totally agree about lighting too! I’m definitely more product aware since I stated blogging (by that I mean more aware of when new collections are coming out) whereas before it would take me ages to notice them haha

Folders and lists and documents are so handy! That’s true, now if something’s coming out you already know when it will be available and what shade you want if it’s a lipstick, eyeshadow, blush etc. xx
