Social Media Changes

One of my resolutions for 2017 is to cut down on social media. I’m not someone who uses every type of social media (and there’s nothing wrong if you do) but I have my preferences and want to use the ones I enjoy more wisely. It seems like the right time to organise and tidy up my online presence. Social media and blogging go hand in hand and it’s only right I update you with where you’ll be able to find me from now on.

1. Facebook

After much deliberation I have decided to delete the Chanelle Hayley Facebook page. The page has always been the least popular of my social media. I don’t use the page apart from sharing blog post links and some photos from Instagram. The blog post links will still be shared on Twitter and if you follow me on Instagram you see my pictures anyway.

2. Pinterest

I’m not deleting Pinterest but I will be removing my blog link from my profile and will no longer have a board for my blog posts. I don’t visit Pinterest very often and would rather keep it for inspiration, creative purposes and personal use. You’ll still be able to see my other boards and any new pins.

3. Twitter

I had @ChanelleTheSats as my username for over 5 years. Needless to say I was very attached but I felt like it was time for a change and I wanted to make it similar to my blog and Instagram names. My username is now @chanellehayley_ so feel free to pop over and tweet hello!

4. Instagram

My Instagram account isn’t undergoing any major changes. I don’t have any Insta rules as such, I post when I like and what I like and I don’t have a theme. I am trying to reach 300 followers by the end of 2017 and I’m almost there. If you don’t follow me yet, you can do so HERE. Leave your username in the comments and I’ll follow you back.

5. Last but not least, YouTube?

For the past year I have been contemplating starting a YouTube channel. At the moment it’s not something on my immediate to do list but I have pros and cons that I wanted to share and hear your thoughts on.

Pros:

  • Some things are easier to show on camera than describe with words, e.g makeup.
  • I get to try something new and learn new skills.
  • I enjoy watching YouTube videos and seeing other blog friends branch out into video.

Cons:

  • I’m RIDICULOUSLY camera shy. It took me years to be comfortable with selfies.
  • I don’t have a DSLR or any equipment to film with.
  • Some weeks I find it hard to find time for the blog so I wouldn’t want the channel to go downhill. I’m the type of person who likes to do things to a high standard and I aim for perfection. If I’m going to commit to it I want to be able to keep it up.

Are we connected on social media? What social media do you use and do you have a favourite?

My Weekend In Pictures

My Weekend In PicturesHappy Monday! I am officially on my week off from work and I had such a lovely day on Saturday that I wanted to share what I got up to. Sunday however, I spent most of the day in bed as it felt like a cold was coming on. *boo* I didn’t want that to get me down as I did have such a lovely day on Saturday; I got my hair done and treated myself to some new bits from The Body Shop.

I last got my hair cut in December so it’s been a wee while coming and I was super excited to get it done on Saturday! For the past few years my hair has been all one length and the past couple of cuts I’ve asked for some face framing. This time though, I wanted something a bit different and decided to add a second layer to my hair. I still wanted it quite long as I tie my hair up for work. I got my hair thinned out as always, got my fringe trimmed and I asked the stylist to put some waves in.

Hair Inspiration

Hair InspirationThese two pictures really inspired me. I love the long, wavy layers which is exactly what I was after. (Obviously, I didn’t dye my hair blonde though).

Both the hairdresser and hair stylist said my hair was in good condition which is always a bonus! I keep my hair routine really simple, I wash it every second or third day, let it dry naturally 99% of the time and don’t use heat styling tools very often.

The Finished Look:

Saturday's HaircutAfter my hair was done I headed into town. I had a few things I wanted to do; I wanted to go to The Body Shop to spend my 20% off voucher and go to the library which I hadn’t done for ages.

Library booksAt the library I was after Tanya Burr’s book Love, Tanya and I ended up getting Fleur De Force’s book The Glam Guide as well. Both of these look right up my street and are packed full of useful tips. I started reading Love, Tanya on Sunday in bed and have just about finished it already. The parts about her and Jim are so sweet!

The Body Shop Items I made my mind up that I wanted to purchase the Vitamin E Night Cream from The Body Shop after seeing Rachel mention it on her blog a few times. Normally I just apply my moisturiser morning and night but since we are heading into winter and my skin can get dry I wanted to try something more nourishing and keep my skin looking nice and healthy. I also picked up two soaps for my mum, we’ve used the Shea one before which is absolutely divine and I also picked up the Moringa which is a lovely, light floral scent. On a complete whim I also picked up the  Black Musk Eau De Toilette. I sprayed it on my arm and I instantly loved the warm, sensual, musk-ness of the scent. I am nearing the end of two of my other perfumes so I figured why not purchase a replacement?!

Adam Like and ReplyDannii Instagram LikeI am a bit of a social butterfly and don’t like to brag but it still never fails to excite me when I get a tweet off one of my favourite people and another one likes one of your Instagram photos. On Sunday morning, I woke up to see Adam Rickitt had liked and replied to my tweet wishing him happy birthday and later on Sunday afternoon I check Instagram to see Dannii Minogue liked a photo I posted of her.

What did you get up to at the weekend?

What’s On My Phone?

What's On My PhoneI have watched a few “What’s On My Phone?” videos before and really enjoyed them. I like being a bit nosy and seeing which apps people install, which apps they use frequently and how they organise them. I recently did a clean up and got rid of some apps and photos to free up space and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to show you what’s on my phone. I’m not someone who downloads a lot of apps, I only keep the ones I use frequently and I like to use my phone as a phone for calling, texting etc.

If you weren’t aware I have an iPhone 5S in Space Grey and I absolutely love it! I purchased my phone about 12 months ago and it was the first real treat to myself after starting my job. I use my phone a lot more than I thought I would which I am glad about. Previously, I didn’t even own a smartphone and used it for texting and that was it. For anyone who’s curious as to where my phone case is from, it’s made by London based graphic designer and illustrator Lili Price. The cases are made to fit a range of phones and Lili’s patterns and designs are always eyecatching!

I like my lock screen and home screen to match and I normally just use the default backgrounds and images on the phone. At the moment I’ve got a simple, grey dotted background. I like light, neutral colours as it makes the names of everything easy to read and it makes the colours of the apps pop. The apps on my phone are spread over two screens and I’m not really one to categorise everything too much. I have a Social menu and an Extras menu which I keep all the apps that come with the phone but don’t use in. The easiest way I could think of was to show you images of each screen and explain a little bit about each app. Let’s get started!

Screen #1

iPhone Screen 1

  • Westpac One – This is my banking app. I can make payments, transfer money and check balances on the go.
  • 2degrees – 2degrees is my mobile phone network. This app allows me to top up and check how much data and minutes I’ve got left on my plan for the month. I have been a 2degrees customer for years and never had a problem.
  • Gmail – I use Gmail for my blog email address. It’s always handy to have access to blog emails.

Screen #2

iPhone Screen 2

  • Instagram – Instagram is one of my favourites! I love sharing photos with you and getting inspiration from everyone else’s. How are we feeling about the new logo? Yay or nay?
  • Social Menu:
    Twitter –
I just love Twitter so much and I’m so grateful for all the good memories I have as a result of using it. It is probably my favourite social media platform.
WordPress – I check this app every morning when I wake up so I can reply to all of your lovely comments. I’ve never written a post on the app though, I prefer to go oldschool and sit at the laptop and type.
PhotoGrid – If I want to make any collages for Instagram or play around with photo effects this is what I’ll use. You can flip photos horizontally and vertically and add borders, text and cute stickers. It’s really easy to navigate and use.
  • Candy Crush Soda – This is now only the game I have on my phone and most of the time I still manage to play this every day. My mum first got me into this game when I bought my phone and I’m currently on level 224.
  • Spotify – I just use the free version of Spotify which unfortunately means I have to endure the ads and can only play an album or playlist on shuffle. I don’t use this app very often to be honest and prefer to use the desktop version of Spotify to listen to my monthly playlists.
  • Clue – I like how the name of this app is very unassuming and doesn’t give away what it is actually for. Clue is a period tracker and you can enter different data which predicts when your next period will be, how long it will be etc. You can also enter information about any pain or your mood on a certain day. I find this good for recording headaches. Clue also keeps track of your past cycles and predicts three cycles into the future.
  • Pinterest – You might be thinking why isn’t this categorised under Social but the truth is I didn’t want the second screen to look bare and only have one or two apps on it because they couldn’t all fit onto one. I have recently started a series on Instagram called #PinterestThoughtTuesday where I share a quote from my Pinterest once a week on Tuesdays. Being able to save the quotes straight from the app is handy.
  • Kindle – Recently I branched out and downloaded two eBooks from fellow blogger Aneta Quinn to read using the Kindle app. I do prefer physical copies of books but Aneta’s novels are only available digitally.
  • Revolution – I have been obsessed with Makeup Revolution lately and after adding things to my cart and taking them out I finally made my first order two weeks ago. I’ll admit I was sneaky and downloaded the app purely so I could apply the discount code and get 20% off my order.

There you have it, a sneak peak into my phone! Do we use any of the same apps? Be sure to let me know what your favourite apps are!

Fifteen of ’15

Fifteen of '15Hello beautiful people! Is it just me or does the thought of another year about to begin suddenly make you reflect on the one that’s been? Yesterday’s post saw me talking about my favourite things in 2015 beauty wise, but today I will be sharing with you fifteen of my personal highlights from the past year. Prepare yourselves, this one gets a bit wordy…

#1 – Followed by Lisa Scott-Lee and Faye Tozer on Twitter

If you know me well, you’ll know pop music is my absolute favourite thing in the whole wide world! I could talk about it for days and my head is filled with plenty of pop facts other people would deem ‘useless.’

Lisa and Faye are members of British pop group Steps who are one my favourite bands of all time. On New Year’s Eve 2014, Lisa followed me on Twitter. I didn’t ask her to (though I had in the past) and it was an incredible way to begin the new year. A month later at the end of January, Faye did the same. I have always counted myself lucky to have been tweeted by all of Steps numerous times but to have your idols follow you is a special feeling.

#2 – First time clubbing

In January I turned 20 and celebrated by going out to dinner and then going out clubbing. In New Zealand you can go clubbing once you turn 18 and almost everyone else I know had been but I wanted my first time to be special and worth it. I enjoyed myself a lot and I think that was down to my love for music, I wasn’t self conscious dancing in front of people and I could’ve kept going all night (which I did at a few 21st’s this year!) I haven’t actually been clubbing again but when I do go I know I’ll enjoy it.

#3 – Interviewed by Karen and Kimberley

This year I had the opportunity to feature on the blogs of two of my best blogging buddies. In February, I featured in Karen’s Behind The Blog series and in June I was featured as an Inspirational Blogger on Kimberley’s blog.

#4 – Purchased my first MAC lipstick

In April I made my first visit to the MAC counter and ended up purchasing my first lipstick; Syrup. I couldn’t be more happy with my purchase and still reach for this shade a lot. This is a lovely, girly, neutral shade and definitely worth a swatch next time you’re at the MAC counter!

#5 – Yoga With Adriene

Looking back, April was a very good month. I decided to take on Yoga With Adriene’s 30 Days of Yoga challenge and I blimmin’ loved it! I was a complete newbie to yoga but I didn’t find the positions too challenging. I like how calm yoga made me feel and I enjoyed taking time out for myself every day.

#6 – Getting my first job!

In May I had my first day of paid work and it was such a good feeling to finally have a job. Prior to starting my job I had been to numerous interviews and had been job searching for 18 months.

#7 – Buying my iPhone

In June I made my first big purchase since beginning my job and got an iPhone. I’d had my previous phone for three or so years and it was a basic phone I only used for texting. I worried I wouldn’t use an iPhone very much but I am so glad I bought it and it’s super handy if I need to take pictures when I’m out or want to play a game when I’m bored.

#8 – Winning #Disco25

Dannii Minogue celebrated the 25th anniversary of her debut single Love & Kisses this year and launched an Instagram competition to mark the occasion. I entered and recorded a video of me singing along and was chosen as one of the winners. I received a signed Love & Kisses vinyl record and hand written note.

#9 – Shane Filan – Right Here

I have been a Shane Filan fangirl for the longest time and he released his second solo album ‘Right Here’ in September. I still get excited whenever I listen to Shane’s music. His voice is undoubtedly my favourite to listen to over anyone else – it’s so smooth and clear and he has the most beautiful tone. Shane also co-writes most of his solo material. Personally, I prefer Shane’s debut album as it’s really special to me and brings back so many good memories of 2013; hearing Shane’s solo music for the first time and Shane replying to my questions in Q&A’s.

#10 – Reaching 500 followers!

Also in September I hit a blogging milestone, I reached 500 followers! That was a big achievement for me and a goal I had my eye on since starting my blog. I’m not someone who worries about numbers and tries to be in competition but 500 was a big deal and it made me realise people out there enjoy reading my blog.

#11 – Starbucks French Vanilla Frappucinos

I’m not a coffee drinker and don’t go to Starbucks all that often but when Starbucks had their French Vanilla Frappucinos out I loved them! They’re so tasty and refreshing and I’m gutted they’re not part of the permanent menu. Fingers crossed Starbucks bring them back.

#12 – 44 Ways You Know You’re a Dannii Minogue Fan

October is Dannii Minogue’s birthday month and I decided I wanted to make something for her. In 2014 I sent a parcel to Australia but I wanted to do something different. Originally I came up with the video idea ’44 Reasons I Love Dannii Minogue’ which evolved into ’44 Ways You Know You’re a Dannii Minogue Fan’ so other Minogue fans could relate. Dannii tweeted me to say she saw the video and loved it which absolutely made my day!

To watch the video yourself, click here.

#13 – All Blacks win Rugby World Cup

Most people wouldn’t expect me to like sport but when it comes to rugby I turn into a proud Kiwi. My mum had no doubt the  All Blacks would win and getting up early to watch the final game between New Zealand and Australia was thrilling. The match was entertaining and the All Blacks made history by being the first country to win back to back rugby world cups and being the first country to win the rugby world cup three times.

#14 – Ellie Goulding – Delirium

‘Delirium’ has been named one of 2015’s Best Pop Albums and with good reason! Call me biased but I believe anything Ellie touches turns to gold. I never get sick of listening to Ellie’s music and could listen to her on repeat all day, there’s not many artists I can say that about. I have been listening to Delirium since it’s release and honestly, it gets better with each listen.

#15 – Confidence

In many ways I have saved the best for last. I remember being nominated for the #TakeBackWhatsYours campaign at the beginning of the year and I am pleased to say I rose to the challenge. Over the past 12 months I have changed a lot (for the better) and felt myself grow in confidence. Now I don’t think twice about sharing images of myself on my blog and being open and honest. I’ve learnt to make myself a priority and do what makes me happy. I’ve also become more confident with my writing and the direction I want my blog to go in.

Thank you to everyone for all your support over the past year! Wishing you the very best for 2016 and sending all my love!

Social Media, Are We Friends?

Social Media, Are We Friends?Hi everyone! I have seen a few of these types of posts before and want to take the opportunity to do one myself. Social media is such an important aspect of blogging and it can really help you to get your name and blog out there. Being a social butterfly can be difficult at times with all the different platforms but I always find time to log on and catch up with tweets, Instagram likes, pins etc.

I thought I’d do this post today to check in with my old followers and let any new followers know where they can find me if they haven’t already. I enjoy chatting and getting to know you all better and I hope you feel the same.

I’m Back! Pt.2

I'm Back!Whilst I was on my break I came up with the idea to do this ‘I’m Back’ post in two parts. I posted Part One on Monday explaining my reasons behind the break, and this part, part two discusses my presence on social media.

Before I get started I want to say a huge thank you to everyone for their lovely comments and support after Monday’s post – it means the world to be welcomed back with such kindness. ❤

Twitter and Pinterest

When I announced my break I briefly mentioned joining Pinterest and setting up a blog Twitter account. I decided not to set up a blog Twitter account as @ChanelleTheSats is what everyone knows me as and I’ve built my followers up over the years. I’m also pretty attached to my username (which comes from my love for The Saturdays) and it would be funny being tweeted @ something different.

I did however join Pinterest and I’ve got to say I’m loving it! At first I thought it would be mega confusing but now I’m a total convert! It’s so easy to set up and use and I like how pins from topics you follow/like automatically show up on your homepage as well as having the option to search for them. I’m a typical girly girl so I’ve created makeup, nails and fashion boards as well as ones for a few of my other favourite things. Be sure to pop on over and have a browse!

Feel free to leave your link in the comments below and if you’d like to follow me you can do so HERE*.

*(I’ve also included a social icon that links to my Pinterest account in the sidebar).

Facebook

On Thursday morning I posted on my personal Facebook page about my blog and Twitter account for the first time. I think part of me was scared to share my blog with people I know in real life because I thought they’d think it was stupid or wouldn’t understand my reasons for starting it in the first place. I finally decided to stop stressing and let how other people might feel control how I was thinking. I’m so proud of this blog and I’ve had such amazing interactions on Twitter with my favourite celebrities and people I’ve come to know because of it. I don’t feel like I have to keep this part of me a secret anymore, I do it for my enjoyment and too bad what other people think!

This is positive Chanelle and she’s here to stay! (I hope).

Happy New Year!

happy-new-year-2015

It’s officially 2015! Wishing you all a year full of joy, health and happiness!

Last night was a pretty quiet one in my household so I took some time to come up with a list of goals I’d like to achieve this year. I will add to the list as the year goes on and I’ve also decided to write good things down on journal cards as they happen and place them in a box alongside the list. At the end of 2015 I’ll be able to look back and remember all the positive things that happened throughout the year.

2015Here is the box the journal cards will be placed in and my list of goals. I used a piece of paper from my kikki.K notepad with an adorable nature inspired design!

I’ve already placed one journal card in the box after Lisa Scott-Lee followed me on Twitter last night. (Technically it’s a 2014 memory but I’m including it anyway). Lisa is one of my biggest idols and I’m still coming to terms with the fact she followed me. The lovely part is she did it off her own back, I didn’t have to ask (although I have in the past). I sent her a direct message saying thank you to which she replied so I’m feeling like an incredibly lucky girl! I love that Twitter gives people the chance to interact with their idols aside from actually having the opportunity to meet them. Being an international fan is hard work sometimes but occasions like this make it all worthwhile.

A new year can mean new changes and as a result I’m in a bit of a dilemma over what to do regarding a few sections of the blog. I am unsure whether I should leave the 30 Days To Love and Week In Review segments as they are, try to combine them into a monthly review type segment or do away with them all together.

Let me know your thoughts on the proposed blog changes and be sure to leave a comment below telling me how you celebrated the New Year and if you have any New Year’s resolutions. Always love hearing from you 🙂

Week In Review: September 22 – September 28, 2014

I post an update here every Sunday giving an overview of my week. Accompanying photos from my Instagram are also included. Here’s the latest:

As you know my Dainty Doll items arrived on Tuesday. To get a rundown of the items I got click here and here.

007 Stripped Revlon #320 Ocean Breeze

On Thursday I posted a picture to my Instagram account of me wearing Dainty Doll’s Stripped lipstick. It is a gold/nude shade and I’m a big fan.

I painted my nails using a polish from Revlon’s scented range. The polish pictured above is #320 Ocean Breeze. Ocean Breeze is a gorgeous iridescent bluey-green and the green tones add a lovely warmth to the formula. This is going to be a great colour for summer!

Also on Thursday, I managed to burn my hand while I was making lunch. I’d poured hot water into my cup of noodles and realised it was leaking. I picked up the cup to try to find where the leak was coming from and ended up spilling noodle broth over my left hand. Thankfully it wasn’t a bad burn and my hand recovered pretty quickly.

Lastly, it’s been an exciting little week in Twitter world for me. Monday got off to a great start when Dannii Minogue favourited a tweet I sent her. Then to top it all off, on Friday I got a reply from her as well. Halfway through the week I got an email saying ‘Jessica Agombar (@JessicaAgombar) is now following you on Twitter!’ and genuinely could not believe it. I have supported Jess for a good few years now and interacted with her a lot in this time. Some of you may remember I posted a short video of me singing ‘Double’ a couple of weeks back.

Jessica’s single ‘Bam Bam’ is out now on iTunes! https://itun.es/i6gQ6Tp

As always, I’d love to hear about your week!

Chanelle x
