Summer Makeup Menu – Just Peachy

Summer is in full swing in New Zealand! February is usually our hottest month and the past couple of days have been particularly balmy. I haven’t done a makeup menu in a little while and I wanted to do one to coincide with summer and the warm weather we’ve been having. Peaches and corals have been my inspiration for this look and I have a few makeup products which fit the brief perfectly. I hope you enjoy this post!

The Menu

Products listed in order of application:

1. Simple Replenishing Rich Moisturiser – This has been my go to moisturiser for a number of years and never lets me down.

2. Rimmel London Professional Eyebrow Pencil in 002 Hazel – This pencil is what I have been using to fill in my eyebrows for nearly a year now and there’s still plenty left!

3. The Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist – I spritz this on my face after applying foundation to give my skin an extra little bit of moisture.

4. Max Factor CC Cream – 40 Fair – I purchased this CC cream from eBay and have only started using it recently. The colour match is spot on and the product feels nice and light on the skin which is what you want in summer. You don’t want to feel like you’re wearing lots of makeup.

5. Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – 1 Fair – This concealer has become my holy grail. The coverage it provides is outstanding for the price point and the product is creamy and moisturising.

6. The Body Shop Swinging Silver Eye Palette – This palette is one of the key products for this look. I simply applied the peach shade all over the lid.

7. Rimmel Glam Eyes Day 2 Night Mascara – I applied one coat of volumising mascara to my top and bottom lashes.

8. Dainty Doll Powder Blush in 004 You Are My Sunshine – This is the second of three products that inspired this peach look. This blush is hands down my favourite and is a great dupe for NARS’ Orgasm.

9. MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencil in Revved – I don’t think I’ve matched a peach eyes with a peach lip before but when I think about peach lips, this shade is the epitome of peach. It’s the perfect mix of pink and orange and the shade is natural yet everyday appropriate.

Chanelle’s Note: I didn’t apply powder as I wanted this look to be dewy and glowy.

What makeup products do you associate with summer? Do you have a go to look for the warmer months?

Summer Lipstick Picks

Here in New Zealand it’s the final month of Spring meaning that next month it will be Summer. I’m not the biggest fan of Summer and the heat but one thing that is sure to keep a smile on my face during the warmer weather is my love for lip products. Back in May I did a similar post, Winter Lipstick Picks, where I showcased my favourite shades for the cooler months. I’ve got a handful of Summer favourites to show you and I’ve broken them down into categories. Enjoy!

The Nude: Patisserie – MAC

Patisserie was the second MAC lipstick I ever purchased and it is a shade I have talked about quite a bit on the blog. It is definitely up there with Syrup as my most worn MAC lipstick. The pinky, terracotta tones make Patisserie a lovely shade for Summer – it adds a wash of colour to the lips and looks especially lovely paired with shimmery eyes. Patisserie is one of those lipsticks that is wearable all year round and can be worn day or night.

The Peach: Peach Parfait – Revlon

Peach Parfait is one of the most recent additions to my makeup collection and I can see it becoming a favourite over the next few months. Peach Parfait is more of a pink-toned peach rather than an orange-toned peach (e.g. Revved by MAC which was also nearly included in this post). This lip butter contains shimmer but so far I haven’t experienced any grit when applying or wearing it. The application is very smooth, like butter, and the formula is moisturising.

The Gloss: I Found Nemo – Tanya Burr Cosmetics

Since purchasing three of Tanya’s lipglosses on Feel Unique I haven’t stopped loving them! I wear all of them regularly and they are so comfortable on the lips and have really good pigment. I Found Nemo is a gorgeous coral colour and screams Summer to me. The name is adorable and makes me think of the sea and swimming which I also associate with Summer.

The Bright: Fuchsia Surprise – BYS

I will keep this brief because I literally wear and talk about this lipstick ALL THE TIME. I feel like fuchsia is my colour and something just clicks when I wear this lipstick. It is my absolute favourite of all the lip products I own and I never get sick of wearing it. This is another shade I wear all year round and bright hot pinks pair so well with Summer.

The Red: fire & Ice – Revlon

I had to include a red somewhere! Red lipstick is one thing that is an essential for any woman and since I started blogging I have added a few reds to my collection and come to learn the types of reds I like and that suit me. For the warmer weather I have opted for an absolute classic from Revlon; Fire & Ice. This shade has been around for over 50 years and is the perfect mix of warm and cool red – think fire engine red meets tomato red. It’s got a little bit of orange to the red and fits well with the other coral/peach shades in this post.

The Spring/Summer Nail Edit

The Spring/Summer Nail EditHey lovelies, happy Friday! Like most ladies, one of my favourite beauty rituals is painting my nails. There’s something about having painted nails that fills me with confidence. Nails are a great way to express yourself with colour, and show off your creative side. We’re well into spring in the southern hemisphere and I’ve compiled a list of five polishes which I think are perfect for spring/summer. If you’re looking for neutrals, pastels, brights or even glitter I’ve got you covered!

The Lineup:

Spring/Summer Nail PolishesLeft To Right: OPI – Pink Yet Lavender, Essie – Ladylike, Essie – Take It Outside, Revlon – Bubblegum and Rimmel – Breakfast In Bed.

1. OPI – Pink Yet Lavender

I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this polish on my blog before and it is hands down one of my most worn. I purchased this beauty back in 2013 at a makeup sale and I’m still in love. Pink Yet Lavender comes from OPI’s Mariah Carey collection and can be worn on it’s own or as a top coat to give your manicure a bit of extra sparkle. What’s interesting about this polish is that the colour is not completely clear and has a pinky-lavender tinge to it, hence the name. This is the perfect polish if you’re going out and need to do your nails in a hurry, it dries so quickly.

Chanelle’s Tip: One coat of this better than two. I find with one the polish lasts longer and doesn’t chip as quick.

2. Essie – Ladylike

This polish is one of my most recent purchases but it has found it’s way onto the list with it’s gorgeous mauve-y tones. Ladylike is one of those shades that can be worn all year round in reality so if you’re a minimalist when it comes to nail colours or prefer to invest in polishes you know you can wear throughout the year this is one to consider.

Chanelle’s Tip: This polish would look even more stunning against a tan.

3. Essie – Take It Outside

If you have a lot of dark clothes in your wardrobe or like to wear black on your nails this shade is a great alternative. Take It Outside is a lovely fresh shade that I feel would suit everyone and has hints of lilac in the grey which makes it the perfect warm shade for summer but also the perfect cool shade for winter.

Chanelle’s Tip: Pair this polish with monochrome and leather to create a badass rock chick look!

4. Revlon – Bubblegum

If you’re a girly girl and brights are your thing, this is the shade for you! As the name suggests, this polish is a bright, bubblegum pink and is part of Revlon’s scented nail polish range. This colour screams summer to me and would look perfect teamed with a white bikini to really make the pink pop.

Chanelle’s Tip: The brush on this polish is quite small so don’t wipe too much excess off when applying otherwise you won’t have enough to cover the nail.

5. Rimmel – Breakfast In Bed

Pastel colours are especially lovely in the summertime, they’re so calming and relaxing. Breakfast In Bed claims to have a 60 second drying time and for the most part this is true. I usually wait 5-10 minutes between coats just to be on the safe side. This shade also has a subtle shimmer running through it which really shines through once a top coat is applied.

Chanelle’s Tip: Try Rimmel’s Breakfast In Bed if you’re looking for a dupe and cheaper alternative to Essie’s famous Mint Candy Apple.

There you have it, my top five polishes for spring/summer. What are your favourite shades to wear in summer?

How To Get That Summer Glow

How To Get That Summer GlowHello everyone!

Inspired by ALOHA‘s promotion of good health and happiness, today’s post is all about achieving the perfect summer glow. I know it is still only winter in New Zealand but I couldn’t resist. I also hope this post will be useful to those of you who live in the Northern Hemisphere where summer, sadly, is almost over. *sob* Not only will I be sharing some of my favourite tips but I have also come up with two makeup looks that can be used to create the illusion of a glow all year round.

One of the easiest ways to achieve a summer glow is through the use of fake tan. If you’re pale like me it can be hard to find a natural colour and can end up making you look worse than before you applied the product. Personally I don’t use fake tan and don’t mind that my skin is pale, I’ve learnt to embrace it. I can’t really tan in the sun either, I stay the same colour or end up burnt. Extra Tip: Always wear sunblock, especially if it stays sunny during winter where you live as the sun can still damage your skin.

Diet plays a huge part in helping you achieve a glow in my opinion. What you eat can affect your skin, your mood and as a result your confidence and how you feel about yourself. I’m lucky that as a teenager I didn’t get a lot of acne and drinking water for just about every glass of fluid also helps keep acne at bay. Sure, there are times I get a spot but it doesn’t linger for very long. I try to eat fresh fruit throughout the year, but particularly in summer, fruit is a really easy go-to option that can be used in salads, smoothies and plenty of other dishes. Make sure you pop over to the Recipe section of ALOHA’s website to check out the array of tasty treats they have on offer.

I could not get that summer glow without my trusty Simple moisturiser, I’ve used it for years and it never lets me down. Somedays wearing just that gives me a glow. I find my skin isn’t as dry in the summer so I don’t necessarily have to wear as many makeup products. If you sweat easily or find your makeup can’t withstand the heat try using a primer as they aim to prolong the wear of makeup while boosting coverage and still providing texture.

I had a lot of fun creating two makeup looks for this post. One is more dewy and simple, while the other is all about bright, punchy colours. I used four core products and simply changed things up for my eyes, lips and cheeks.

BaseLeft to Right: Simple Kind To Skin Light Hydrating Moisturiser, Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation in 081 Fair Ivory, Maybelline The Falsies Mascara and Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 15 Fair.

Look #1: Summertime Pastels

Finished Pastel LookI was drawn to cool, pastel tones for this look. Not only do these colours suit my complexion, they are beautiful and subtle enough to add something special without going over the top. If you prefer simple makeup I’m sure you’d like this look.

PastelEyes: Qianyu Eyeshadow Palette – I applied the bluey-purple shade second from the left all over my lid.

Cheeks: Dainty Doll Wonderbalm

Lips: Dainty Doll Lipstick 004 Material World

Look #2: Summertime Brights

Finished Bright LookI’m a fan of brights, so I wanted to incorporate them into my second look which is based around traditional, summery colours. If you like pops of colour and making your features stand out this one’s for you.

BrightEyes: Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoo ’70 Barely Branded’

Cheeks: Dainty Doll Powder Blush 004 You Are My Sunshine

Lips: Revlon Lip Butter 015 Tutti Frutti

Achieving a summer glow doesn’t have to be difficult and I hope both of these looks have provided you with some inspiration. My initial vision for this post was to demonstrate how glowing skin can be achieved all year round and for me makeup plays a huge part in that alongside my diet. Makeup makes me feel more confident which in turn radiates happiness and to me that is the best kind of glow!

I hope you enjoyed this post and be sure to let me know what you think of the looks I created. Do you have any tips for achieving a summer glow of your own? Share them below!
