My First Valentine! ❤

my-first-valentine

Whether you love it or hate it it was Valentine’s Day on Tuesday and I wanted to do a post about my first ever Valentine’s experience. Technically it’s my second (I had a dinner date with a girl friend last year) but my first in a relationship and with a boyfriend. I’ve always liked the idea of Valentine’s Day despite having always been single before. Some people might find the cards cheesy and the gifts gimmicky but I’m quite a soppy person (in a cute way) and it’s nice to have a day to celebrate love.

My boyfriend and I have been together for five months and while that’s still kind of new I always mention to him how many weeks/months it’s been since we met – each one is a little milestone! As you may know, this is the first relationship I’ve ever had and I’m so grateful everything has been positive and to share these experiences with someone like him because he’s truly lovely.

Presents

I got my boyfriend a cute card covered in cats (we post cat memes and GIFs to each other’s Facebook walls all the time) and wrote a rather sweet message in it as well as a bag of Sour Skittles and a plush dog toy holding a heart. I joked the dog even has ginger hair like me!

I told my boyfriend he didn’t have to buy me anything as it was only my birthday three weeks ago and Christmas a month before that. He insisted on getting me a present and gave me a lovely card and one of his soft toys. He told me it’s one he’s had for a while and he wanted me to have it. It’s also a kitty; Jaguar to be exact! *melt*

Outfit

It’s full on Summer in New Zealand so I wanted an outfit that was cute and weather appropriate. Last year I purchased a playsuit on ASOS and I have been loving it over the past month. I paired the playsuit with a cropped, sparkly, black cardigan.

Hair

I love the way my hair looks when it’s curled. I don’t curl it very often but I want to start making good use of the curler I got as a Christmas present from my brother. Curls don’t tend to stay in my hair for very long when I do it myself but I think I may have found a solution. I tied my hair in a ponytail and divided it into two sections. I curled one section at a time and when I untied my hair I had almost perfect curls. There were a few strands I missed but this method was so easy. I set the curls with hairspray which also made a difference.

Makeup

For makeup I based it on my recent Summer Makeup Menu which was inspired by peachy tones. I switched it up slightly and opted for more of a smoky eye and bronzed face as I wanted more glam.

Celebrations

My boyfriend picked me up in the afternoon (we hadn’t seen each other for 10 days, one of the longest times we’ve gone without seeing each other) and when we got to his we exchanged presents, I got given a red rose and caught up on cuddles. We talked and caught up with other, in between affectionate touches, before dinner; pizza if you’re wondering, and chocolate cake for dessert. We sat outside for a while (more cuddling) then went for an evening stroll around one of the lakes. The lighting was so nice after our walk, it was almost dark and my boyfriend described it as ‘atmospheric’ which suited it perfectly.

Overall, it was a beautiful day and I’m glad I had someone special to share it with!

Date Night OOTD & Makeup

Date Night OOTD & Makeup

Happy Wednesday, it’s the middle of another week already! I was in two minds about whether I should (is should the right word?) share this post or not but I’ve decided to. I’ve always been open about the fact that I haven’t been in a relationship before or had a lot to do with the opposite sex but a few weeks ago I went out to dinner on a date. To cut a long story short, I never heard from the guy after that. Despite this, I really enjoyed putting this look together and I wanted to share what I wore in case you’re in a similar situation or just need some inspiration.

The Outfit

Date Night Outfit1. Cotton On Archy Crop Pullover

I knew it might get a bit chilly so I wanted to make sure I was warm whilst still looking nice. I went for a casual/semi-formal look and I rolled up the sleeves of this pullover to make things a bit more cute and playful. The colour broke up the black of the rest of the outfit.

2. Cotton On 3/4 Sleeve Boat Neck

Underneath the pullover I opted for a simple black 3/4 sleeve top. These sorts of tops are so versatile and perfect for layering.

3. Dannii For Target Coated Leggings

I absolutely love these leggings for their comfort and the way they look! These are more glam than your usual pair of plain black leggings and the coated animal print also adds a bit of personality and playfulness.

4. Forever New Scarlett Quilted Bag

I picked up this bag when I was in Auckland with dates and evenings out in mind. It is the perfect size and can hold a decent amount. For example, on my date I had my phone, keys, cards, ID, various other bits and there was still room to spare.

5. Diana Ferrari Onix Suede Boots

It was a chilly evening and I’m glad I opted for boots. These look so cute with the leggings tucked in and I do love the sound of the slight heel against the pavement as I walk.

Date Night Outfit

The Face

Date Night MakeupI started with my trusty Simple moisturiser as usual. All other products are listed in order of application:

1. Makeup Revolution Ultra Face Base Primer

2. Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil in 002 Hazel

3. Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation in 010 Light Porcelain

4. Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in 1 Fair

5. Maybelline ‘The Nudes’ – (Shades 3 and 7)*

6. Max Factor Excess Shimmer in Copper

7. Rimmel Day 2 Night Mascara – (Two coats of the volume mascara)

8. Goddess of Love Highlighter

9. MAC Syrup – (I wanted to make an impact but not go over the top with a bold lip)

*Both shades were applied all over the lid before going in with Max Factor’s Excess Shimmer in Copper for added sparkle!

Hey, It’s Okay… If You’ve Never Been On a Date

Hey It's Okay

Hi everyone! It’s time for another Hey, It’s Okay… and this month’s topic is similar to last month’s. In February I discussed being single (CLICK HERE to read that post) and I was overwhelmed by all the supportive and reassuring comments I received. One in particular stuck with me and it was from Lizzi over at Thoughts and Things. She commented, “Do you date? It terrified me when I was a teenager but I think it’s good for the soul. Gives you good nerves, makes the heart race, challenges me to keep being a confident talker. Also tests my ability to feign interest in many topics but that’s a whole other issue.” and it got me thinking, hang on a minute I could turn that into a post.

Not only have I been single all my life but I’ve also NEVER been on a romantic date of any description. Part of me worries and is a little nervous what dating is like and the ‘rules’ of dating and how to date but those feelings I have in regards to relationships as well. Dating to me is often portrayed as being lots of fun, involves plenty of flirting and very easy when in reality, it’s probably not. The thought of meeting someone new for the first time can send people into a state of panic, “Do I look okay?”, “Will he like me?” and ultimately make them afraid of being themselves. With time and experience, I’m sure those feeling will pass. You shouldn’t have to put on an act to try and please another person. It’s clichéd but being yourself really is the most beautiful thing.

If you’re having trouble finding people to date or where to find people to date, you are not alone! There is nothing wrong with having standards and qualities you find attractive in a person, just don’t let that cloud your judgement. At the same time never feel like you have to settle for something you’re not sure about or don’t want. As for where to find people to date, I have this mindset that I could meet anybody at any time and I want to make sure the impression I give is a good one and I’m putting my best foot forward. I don’t desperately try to get anyone’s attention but if someone does happen to look my way I know that I’m being true to myself and treating everyone with kindness and respect. This relates to all situations from me dealing with customers at work to spending time with friends and family.

One of my favourite quotes sums it up perfectly:

Quote

My conversation with Lizzi also made me think about my attitudes towards online dating. Over the past couple of years apps like Tinder have become more popular. Personally, I have never used Tinder but I have friends that do. I might be old fashioned in the way I think but I’ve always imagined meeting someone and having them sweep me off my feet. If I was chatting to someone online I’d always be wondering if they were telling the truth and how many other people they were chatting to. It’s wrong of me to make assumptions like that but I tend to stay away from Tinder etc. for that reason. I’m not saying I will never use dating apps or other people shouldn’t but it’s a personal choice. There are genuine people out there trying to find friendship and find love but there’s also not.

By fate it seems, I came across dating guru Matthew Hussey when writing this post. Not only does he have the most adorable British accent (and is pretty handsome) I have learnt so much and found his videos so helpful. His thoughts are real and honest and make a whole lot of sense. He gives you tips on dating, early stages of a relationship, how to keep a relationship going and a bunch of other useful information. He’s not afraid to get intimate and personal and the videos are very entertaining to watch. I’ve linked a few of my personal favourites below:

Spread The Love

Spread the LoveOn Friday I was nominated to join the ‘Spread The Love’ campaign by the gorgeous Adele over at The Girl In Glasses. This is such a love-ly nomination (see what I did there) and I’m honoured Adele thought of me and I get to take part!

The Rules:

  1. Write 10 four-word sentences about what love means to you
  2. Share your favourite quote on love
  3. Nominate 10 other bloggers to join in

Love is…

1. Being there for each-other. 2. A sense of belonging. 3. Taking cute, cheesy photographs. 4. Comfy t-shirts and sweatpants. 5. Laughing when you’re sad. 6. Feeling deliriously happy, always. 7. All we ever need. 8. Cuddling on the couch. 9. Becoming man and wife. 10. Constant romance and kisses.

Love heart“A guy out there was meant to be the love of your life, your best friend, your soul mate, the one you can tell your dreams to. He’ll brush the hair out of your eyes. Send you flowers when you least expect it. He’ll stare at you during the movie, even though he paid $8 to see it. He’ll call to say goodnight or just cause he is missing you. He’ll look in your eyes and tell you, you’re the most beautiful girl in the world, and for the first time in your life, you’ll believe it.”

The quote I chose is by Nicholas Sparks. I’m not sure where it’s from but I recall seeing it on Tumblr a few times. As someone who hasn’t had any experience with love, this quote really speaks to me because I’m waiting for the day someone falls in love with me. I have this idea in my head that this is what love should be like.

Day 08 – A song that reminds you of your “first love”

As I mentioned on day 2 of the challenge I’ve never had a boyfriend before so for today I picked ‘First Love’ by Jennifer Lopez. Lyrically she states the track is about a feeling, “The feeling of falling, of falling in love, the feeling of you’ve found the one, or that this person that you’re with, you wish you would’ve met them years ago.” I only hope my first love is as special as the one Jennifer is singing about.
