Recapping Project Pan

recapping-project-pan

Today is my proper, final post in the Project Pan series! I have enjoyed being part of this project a lot and seeing how much progress I could make with my selected products. I also want to thank my three Candadian collaborators for having me on board (#ProjectPanClan) and their general amazingness: Stashy – Stash Matters, Jodi – A Brash Attitude and Ingrid – Curly Spring Blossom.

Summary

  • I was surprised at how many uses certain products take to finish. I thought I would finish a few more products than I did.
  • I made a good dent in all of the products. My most used product was The Body Shop’s Strawberry Lip Butter and my least used product was Cutex’s Strengthening Nail Polish Remover.
  • I finished two out of my eleven products; Collection’s Lasting Perfection concealer and The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil hand cream.
  • I didn’t get tired of using the same products over the course of the eleven weeks.
  • I don’t regret purchasing any of these products and committing to this project reminded me why I like them and purchased them in the first place.
  • I don’t intend to throw any of the nine remaining products away, I will continue to use them up.

Project Pan Week 11: Cutex Strengthening Nail Polish Remover

project-pan-week-11Happy Monday and welcome to week eleven (the final week) of Project Pan! Project Pan follows Stash Matters, A Brash Attitude, Curly Spring Blossom and I as we pick 12 products to try and hit pan on/empty over 12 weeks (11 in my case).

My final product is a strengthening nail polish remover from Cutex.

About

I purchased this nail polish remover at the beginning of the year and the 100ml bottle has lasted me nearly 12 months. I think I paid around $4 (NZD) for this which makes the cost inexpensive. I  was using another Cutex nail polish remover prior to this (Cutex’s nourishing formula) but I wasn’t a fan. It had a weird, milky colour and it seemed like you had to use so much product to get nail polish off. The nail polish would stain the skin around my nails and my nails felt tacky afterwards. This strengthening formula is a completely different story! I don’t experience any of the negatives mentioned above and it really has helped strengthen my nails.

From the Website:

For a healthy lifestyle it’s important to look after your nails. Beauty experts advise giving your nails a break from polish now and again to help you monitor nail health. When polish begins to chip, it’s essential to remove polish immediately to keep fingers and toes looking neat.

This Strengthening Nail Polish Remover from Cutex, with protein and Pro-Vitamin B5 nail whitening formula, allows you to remove nail polish quickly and easily. Especially formulated for brittle nails.

Pros

  • Nails do feel stronger and less brittle
  • Less breakage and splitting of nails
  • Removes the majority of polishes in a few swipes
  • Enriched with protein and Pro-Vitamin B5 to further strengthen nails

Cons

  • Difficult to remove glitter polishes

Chanelle’s rating 9/10 – As far as nail polish removers go this one is pleasant. The smell isn’t too bad and too strong and the product lives up to it’s claims. I have noticed my nails are a lot healthier and stronger since switching to this nail polish remover and I will definitely buy this again when it runs out. I did take one mark off for not removing glitter polish with ease but what nail polish remover does?!

Project Pan Week 10: The Body Shop Strawberry Lip Butter

project-pan-week-10

Happy Monday and welcome to week ten of Project Pan! Project Pan follows Stash Matters, A Brash Attitude, Curly Spring Blossom and I as we pick 12 products to try and hit pan on/empty over 12 weeks (11 in my case).

In the spotlight this week is the third and final product from The Body Shop; their Strawberry Lip Butter.

About

I purchased this lip butter more than a year ago. I didn’t start using it straight away and it sat unopened for a couple of months. I needed time to decide what I was going to do with this lip butter, was I going to keep it in my bag in case of chapped lip emergencies or just use it now and again when I needed to. I didn’t end up doing either of those. 99% of the time once my lipstick is on it stays on and I don’t reach for lip balm during the day. I started applying this at night before bed, so I wake up with lovely, soft lips and it’s something I’ve continued to do. This is still on my lips when I wake in the morning (my lips are known to hold pigment and lip product extremely well) and when it comes to applying lipstick there is no drag. I think it’s important to distinguish this is a lip butter as opposed to a lip balm. I’m sure essentially they are the same but lip butter implies it should be more moisturising than a regular lip balm.

From the Website:

A rich, intensive moisturiser for the lips with the sweet scent of strawberry. The butter-like texture of this balm which contains strawberry seed oil, melts onto the lips for instant hydration leaving lips feeling soft, smooth and kissable.

Pros

  • Strawberry scent isn’t overpowering
  • Keeps my lips soft and supple
  • A little goes a long way
  • Easy to pop in your handbag/purse

Cons

  • Price – $16.75 (NZD) is a little steep for a lip balm

Chanelle’s rating 8.5/10 – I’m giving this product another solid score because I do find with regular daily use my lips stay soft and nourished and I never get chapped lips or bits of flaky skin. Even though the price isn’t the cheapest you do get a lot of product in the little tub and I find less is more so it will last you for a while. Some people might argue this product isn’t the most hygienic because you have to swirl your finger in the tub but I apply this once a day at night before bed right after I’ve washed my hands.

The Remaining Products – Progress

project-pan-11

  1. Nivea Pearly Shine Lip Balm – Used 1x.
  2. The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Hand Cream – Used 6x. This is on it’s last legs, there must only be a couple of uses left.
  3. Max Factor Lasting Performance Foundation in 101 Ivory Beige – Used 2x.
  4. Britney Spears Curious – In Control – Used 4x.
  5. Fudge Urban Miracle Ends Tropical Cocktail – Used 2x.
  6. The Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist – Used 5x.
  7. Natio Clay and Plant Face Mask Purifier – Used 2x. I have noticed a small difference using this more than once a week. My skin seems clearer and less oily.
  8. Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – 1 Fair – Used 6x. I finally finished a product!
  9. Rimmel Match Perfection Translucent Setting Powder – Used 4x. After last week’s review I have made a real effort to use this more.
  10. Cutex Strengthening Nail Polish Remover – Used 2x.

Project Pan Week 9: Rimmel Match Perfection Setting Powder

project-pan-week-9

Happy Monday and welcome to week nine of Project Pan! Project Pan follows Stash Matters, A Brash Attitude, Curly Spring Blossom and I as we pick 12 products to try and hit pan on/empty over 12 weeks (11 in my case).

This week I am talking about a setting powder by Rimmel. I’m a big fan of Rimmel’s Match Perfection Foundation so I figured I’d purchase the matching powder to see how it fares.

About

This is the first setting powder I’ve ever used in all the time I’ve worn makeup. As my skin is on the drier side, I hadn’t thought I needed to use one previously. I purchased this powder in March and figured this would work well with the Match Perfection Foundation. I liked the idea of a loose powder as opposed to a pressed powder which I worried might make my skin look dry and cakey. I like to apply this powder with my Real Techniques Blush Brush as it’s big and fluffy and allows me to apply it in short, sharp motions. My t-zone gets oilier than it did a couple of years ago so I mostly apply it there but I also do the rest of my face if my skin is looking shiny.

From the Website:

Lightweight, smooth and soft face powder. Matches skin’s texture for a flawless and natural looking finish. Wears up to 8 hours. Dermatologically tested.

Pros

  • Translucent so it won’t alter the colour of your foundation
  • The powder does feel lightweight and smooth
  • Has a nice scent
  • I don’t know if it lasts 8 hours as stated but it does keep any oil under control
  • Doesn’t accentuate dry skin

Cons

  • Price – this costs roughly the same as the foundation: $19 (NZD). I’m not sure how that compares to other powders but powder isn’t an essential step in my makeup routine

Chanelle’s rating: 8/10 – As far as setting powders go this one from Rimmel is a worthwhile investment. I also wear this powder with my Max Factor Lasting Finish Foundation and it looks good. I don’t reach for this every day but when I do I am always impressed by it. I haven’t been able to put this to the summertime heat test as I purchased it after summer but I plan to over the next few months. (The chances of me using this up during Project Pan are slim).

The Remaining Products – Progress

project-pan-11

  1. Nivea Pearly Shine Lip Balm – Used 2x.
  2. The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Hand Cream – Used 6x. I am getting close to finishing this.
  3. Max Factor Lasting Performance Foundation – Used 2x. I only wore a full face of makeup with foundation twice this week and I used this both times.
  4. Britney Spears Curious – In Control – Used 3x. This perfume seems to be never-ending.
  5. Fudge Urban Miracle Ends Tropical Cocktail – Used 3x.
  6. The Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist – Used 3x.
  7. Natio Clay and Plant Face Mask Purifier – Used 2x.
  8. Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – 1 Fair – Used 4x.
  9. The Body Shop Strawberry Lip Butter – Used 6x.
  10. Cutex Strengthening Nail Polish Remover – Used 2x.

P.S. This will be my final post for the week. If you saw FRIDAY’S POST you’ll know I am going on a little hiatus/blogging break. I will be posting but not three times a week. I still intend to read everyone’s posts and leave comments, I’m just taking some time out.

See you all next week for another Project Pan update!

Project Pan Week 8: Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer

project-pan-week-8

Happy Monday and welcome to week eight of Project Pan! Project Pan follows Stash Matters, A Brash Attitude, Curly Spring Blossom and I as we pick 12 products to try and hit pan on/empty over 12 weeks (11 in my case).

This week I am talking about a much loved product in the beauty world; Collection’s Lasting Perfection Concealer. This concealer comes in four shades and I use the lightest, 1 – Fair.

About

I purchased this concealer approximately six months ago near the end of the concealer I was using at the time. I’d also heard so many bloggers singing the praises of this product which was the main influence in purchasing it. Prior to this I was using Maybelline’s Fit Me concealer which I used to rave about on the blog but Lasting Perfection definitely blows Fit Me out of the water! A little of this product goes a long way and despite the full coverage it doesn’t clog pores, cause breakouts or irritate my skin. The shade could not be more perfect and I’d go as far as to say this concealer is holy grail status! I’ve already repurchased another tube for when I finish my current one.

From the Website:

– Conceals imperfections and blemishes for up to 16 hours.
– Water-resistant and transfer-proof.
– Multiple award-winning.

1. After applying your foundation, choose a shade of concealer that matches your skin tone to cover any blemishes or imperfections.
2. Using the applicator, dab the concealer over the blemishes to cover.
3. Using a concealer brush, gently blend until the joins between concealer and foundation are seamless.
4. You can also use a lighter shade to contour the nose and cheekbones using the same steps.

Pros

  • Inexpensive
  • Full coverage – if I don’t want to wear foundation I just apply this over any redness
  • Perfect shade for my skintone
  • Formula feels moisturising on the skin

Cons

  • Writing rubs off the packaging

Chanelle’s rating: 9.5/10 – If I was judging on the product alone it would be a 10/10. I subtracted 0.5 for the fact the lettering rubs off the tube very easily. This is only minor and doesn’t affect my overall opinions of the product.

The Remaining products – Progress

project-pan-11

  1. Nivea Pearly Shine Lip Balm – Used 1x.
  2. The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Hand Cream – Used 5x. Same reason as last week, I spent two nights away from home.
  3. Max Factor Lasting Performance Foundation – Used 1x. I did so well with this product last week.
  4. Britney Spears Curious – In Control – Used 2x.
  5. Fudge Urban Miracle Ends Tropical Cocktail – Used 2x.
  6. The Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist – Used 3x.
  7. Natio Clay and Plant Face Mask Purifier – I didn’t use this as I will be trialing it to see how it works a couple of times a week compared to one weekly use.
  8. Rimmel Match Perfection Translucent Setting Powder – Used 1x.
  9. The Body Shop Strawberry Lip Butter – Used 5x. Again, for the same reason as the Wild Argan Oil hand cream.
  10. Cutex Strengthening Nail Polish Remover – Used 1x.

Project Pan Week 7: Natio Clay and Plant Face Mask Purifier

project-pan-week-7

Happy Monday and welcome to week seven of Project Pan! Project Pan follows Stash Matters, A Brash Attitude, Curly Spring Blossom and I as we pick 12 products to try and hit pan on/empty over 12 weeks (11 in my case).

In the spotlight this week is a product by Australian brand Natio; their Clay and Plant Face Mask Purifier.

About

I first saw this face mask in a magazine and purchased it roughly a year ago. I actually only paid 50 cents for this as I had a gift card which paid for the rest. Ever since I purchased this face mask I have used it once a week for the past 52-ish weeks. You don’t need to use a lot of product and this tube seems to last forever. I like that this doesn’t have a scent and you can feel it working when you apply it. This is currently the only face mask I use and the only one I have ever used.

From the website:

Benefits:

Helps unclog and tighten pores. Does wonders for tired skin, improving firmness and texture. A wonderful at-home treatment for all skin types.

Plant Extracts:

Sesame to nourish and restore lustre. Lemon to cleanse and purify. Palma Rosa to soften and nourish.

How To:

After cleansing and toning, apply a thin layer to face and neck, avoiding eye area. Relax for five to ten minutes, allowing clay to dry. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.

pros

  • A little goes a long way
  • Unscented
  • Simple, squeeze tube packaging
  • Makes the face feel clean and fresh

Cons

  • Runny texture, I have to be careful not to squeeze too much out
  • May leak easily – I store this lying down instead of upright
  • Doesn’t prevent breakouts

Chanelle’s rating: 7/10 – This face mask is definitely worth the price because of how long it has lasted. I don’t know whether it would be beneficial to use this mask more than once a week. Maybe that’s something to try for the last few weeks of Project Pan? I am undecided whether I will purchase again once I’ve finished this tube. Part of me would like to try something else and perhaps more specific to my skin and it’s needs.

The Remaining products – Progress

project-pan-11

  1. Nivea Pearly Shine Lip Balm – Used 1x.
  2. The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Hand Cream – Used 4x. I spent a couple of nights away from home this week and didn’t take this with me.
  3. Max Factor Lasting Performance Foundation in 101 Ivory Beige – Used 5x. I’m loving applying this foundation with my W7 Power Puff recently.
  4. Britney Spears Curious – In Control – Used 2x.
  5. Fudge Urban Miracle Ends Tropical Cocktail – Used 2x.
  6. The Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist – Used 6x. This works well when spritzed before applying foundation.
  7. Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – 1 Fair – Used 6x.
  8. Rimmel Match Perfection Translucent Setting Powder – Didn’t use again this week.
  9. The Body Shop Strawberry Lip Butter – Used 5x. Didn’t use daily for the same reason as the Wild Argan Oil hand cream.
  10. Cutex Strengthening Nail Polish Remover – Used 1x. I didn’t wear nail polish this week, well not properly. I was going to do a Halloween nail look on Saturday but it didn’t turn out how I would have liked.

Project Pan Week 6: The Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist

project-pan-week-6

Happy Monday and welcome to week six of Project Pan! Project Pan follows Stash Matters, A Brash Attitude, Curly Spring Blossom and I as we pick 12 products to try and hit pan on/empty over 12 weeks (11 in my case).

This week I’m talking about The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Face Mist. This is the second of three products from The Body Shop to feature as part of Project Pan.

About

I purchased this Face Mist in January 2016 as part of my Birthday Body Shop Haul. I can’t quite remember if I saw this on other blogs and purchased it because of that or if I just wanted to try it as a setting spray. (I think it was a bit of both).

My bottle of Face Mist features the old logo and packaging. The Body Shop have since updated their logo and the packaging looks nicer and more crisp. The lid and cap are black and by the looks of things there is now a label around the bottle. I’m not sure if the size of the bottle has changed at all but the old bottle is a nice size and wouldn’t take up a lot of space if you’re traveling and want something quick and easy to refresh your face.

From the website:

A quick skin pick-me up and excellent for setting make-up. Spritz it on for instant refreshment, moisture, and protection. With a delicate rosewater scent.

•  For all skin types

pros

  • Doesn’t break me out or react with my skin
  • Compact, handy size
  • Feels refreshing when first spritzed

Cons

  • Doesn’t do much for my skin
  • Takes more than a couple of sprays to make skin feel properly hydrated
  • Price

Chanelle’s rating: 6/10 – In all honesty this isn’t a bad product but it doesn’t wow me either! I don’t think I would purchase this again in future. It does feel refreshing when it is sprayed onto the skin but I don’t find it hydrates my skin or does much in the way of setting makeup. You do get 100ml of mist and I’m not sure how much you get in other setting sprays but I don’t feel the price is reflective of the product. You’re basically paying $25 (NZD) for rose scented water. Sorry, The Body Shop.

The Remaining products – Progress

project-pan-11

  1. Nivea Pearly Shine Lip Balm – I haven’t worn this lip balm at all this week, naughty naughty!
  2. The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Hand Cream – Used 2x.
  3. Max Factor Lasting Performance Foundation in 101 Ivory Beige – Used 3x.
  4. Britney Spears Curious – In Control – Used 2x.
  5. Fudge Urban Miracle Ends Tropical Cocktail – Used 2x.
  6. Natio Clay and Plant Face Mask Purifier – Used 1x.
  7. Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – 1 Fair – Used 5x. I am close to finishing this product.

Project Pan Week 5: Fudge Urban Miracle Ends

project-pan-week-5

Happy Monday and welcome to week five of Project Pan! Project Pan follows Stash Matters, A Brash Attitude, Curly Spring Blossom and I as we pick 12 products to try and hit pan on/empty over 12 weeks (11 in my case).

This week I’m talking about a hair product from Fudge Urban called Miracle Ends. Miracle Ends has a deliciously fruity scent and name – Tropical Cocktail.

About

I bought this product back in March and I used to use this almost daily on my hair for the first couple of months. There is still a decent amount of product left in the tube seven months later.

I purchased this after seeing it featured on Karen’s blog (Confetti & Curves). The way Karen described the scent had me hooked and when I smelt this in real life, I understood what she was going on about. This smells absolutely delightful and I believe this scent would make such a nice body spray.

When I first purchased this I would massage it into the ends of my hair before bed of an evening but now I tend to use it if my hair looks like it needs taming during the day or after I’ve used styling tools.

From the website:

Product Description

Seal split and dry ends. Apply to dry hair for serious de-frizz. Use post blow dry for natural shine. Repair & condition with Argan Oil.

How To Use

Work through mid-lengths & dry ends for a textured finish with natural shine. Place on wet or dry hair that’s naturally curly to tame unruly locks.

pros

  • Pretty packaging
  • Yummy scent
  • A little goes a long way so this tube will last a while

Cons

  • Could require daily use depending on the condition of your hair
  • Not holy grail status

Chanelle’s rating: 7.5/10 – I loved this product when I first bought it but I don’t use it as much now. I do really like using this on my hair to keep it silky and smooth after it’s been straightened. The rating doesn’t necessarily reflect the product but rather how often I reach for it and if I’d purchase it again. Don’t get me wrong, the product is great but I don’t get excited when I use it.

The Remaining products – Progress

project-pan-11

  1. Nivea Pearly Shine Lip Balm – Unfortunately this was only used once again this week.
  2. The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Hand Cream – Used 5x. My hand has been a lot better.
  3. Max Factor Lasting Performance Foundation in 101 Ivory Beige – Used 2x.
  4. Britney Spears Curious – In Control – Used 1x.

  6. Natio Clay and Plant Face Mask Purifier – Used 1x.

  10. Cutex Strengthening Nail Polish Remover –Didn’t use this week. I painted my nails last Monday and they’re still going strong.

Project Pan Week 4: Britney Spears Curious – In Control

project-pan-week-4

Happy Monday and welcome to week four of Project Pan! Project Pan follows Stash Matters, A Brash Attitude, Curly Spring Blossom and I as we pick 12 products to try and hit pan on/empty over 12 weeks (11 in my case).

This week’s product is the Curious – In Control perfume by Britney Spears.

About

I received this perfume as a gift for my birthday in 2010. Six years later and there’s still perfume left! When I first got this perfume I would wear it all the time but as I began to purchase others this one took a bit of a back seat. I’m not sure why because this perfume has such a nice fragrance and makes a lovely everyday perfume.

Earlier bottles of In Control (like mine) included the more old fashioned atomiser and charms to decorate the bottle. Later bottles didn’t include the charms and featured a standard metal atomiser.

On the name, Spears said: “As I get older, the names go with my age. It’s more demanding, it’s more sensual, it’s black, it’s about being in control. That’s cool and inspirational … girls need that.”

Sadly, I think this fragrance has now been discontinued.

From the website:

The new limited edition of Curious is sweet and sexy, romantically pink and dangerously black. The composition is a sensual mixture of vanilla and musky notes, crème brûlée and night orchid. It opens with juicy notes of loquat fruit. The heart harmonizes midnight orchid, crème brûlée, black vanilla bean and tonka crystals. The base notes are sugared sandalwood and musk.

pros

  • Suitable scent for everyday wear
  • Striking black and pink packaging
  • The old fashioned atomiser adds a luxurious feel

Cons

  • Not suitable for travelling due to the bulkiness of the bottle
  • The scent doesn’t last as long as some of my other perfumes

Chanelle’s rating: 9/10 – I don’t travel a lot so the fact this perfume is bulkier than some of my others doesn’t bother me. While the scent doesn’t last all day, I still get a decent amount of time out of it and in all the years I’ve owned this perfume the scent hasn’t changed. I like the mix of vanilla and musk and when it comes to perfume, I’m drawn to vanilla scents.

The Remaining products – Progress

project-pan-11

  1. Nivea Pearly Shine Lip Balm – Used 1x. This week has either been a full face of makeup day or no makeup at all.
  2. The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Hand Cream – Used 3x. A small patch of skin on my right hand has been super dry and irritated so I haven’t used the hand cream as much as I normally would. I have been using a moisturisng cream instead to help it heal.
  3. Max Factor Lasting Performance Foundation in 101 Ivory Beige – Used 3x.
  4. Fudge Urban Miracle Ends Tropical Cocktail – Used 2x. I don’t use this product as regularly as I did when I first purchased it. It seems to have fallen by the wayside.
  5. The Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist – Used 1x.
  6. Natio Clay and Plant Face Mask Purifier – Used 1x.
  7. Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – 1 Fair – Used 6x.

Project Pan Week 3: Max Factor Lasting Performance Foundation

project-pan-week-3

Happy Monday and welcome to the third of my reviews as part of Project Pan! Project Pan follows Stash Matters, A Brash Attitude, Curly Spring Blossom and I as we pick 12 products to try and hit pan on/empty over 12 weeks (11 in my case).

This week’s product is Max Factor’s Lasting Performance Foundation in the shade ‘101 Ivory Beige’.

max-factor-ivory-beige-swatch

About

Ivory Beige is the second to lightest shade in the range after ‘100 Fair.’ I purchased Ivory Beige because Fair wasn’t available. I purchased this foundation at the beginning of the year in January and I have made a decent dent in it throughout the year. If I’m traveling or want more coverage and flawless skin this is the foundation I’ll turn to.

Lasting Performance is an accurate name for this foundation. It lasts well throughout the day and doesn’t break down from oil or wear off. This foundation doesn’t really have a scent and it’s very easy to blend into the skin. The best ways to apply this foundation are with a brush or your fingers. I have tried applying it with a sponge and while it works, the foundation is quite thick and stains the sponge easily.

From the Website:

Coverage that won’t smudge with Lasting Performance Foundation.

  • Long-lasting formula guaranteed for eight hours.
  • Fragrance free and suitable for sensitive skin.
  • Touch proof system won’t run or rub off on clothes.
  • Non-comedogenic – so it won’t clog pores.

Pros

  • Makes my skin look flawless
  • A good matte foundation without being too matte or drying
  • Travel friendly

Cons

  • Hard to see how much product is left
  • Quite easy to apply too much but that’s down to me being pale

Chanelle’s rating: 8/10 – I took a couple of points off for not always being the best colour for my skin and the fact this isn’t my go to foundation for everyday. I have no problems with the formula or how it looks and feels on my skin but if I do see this available in ‘100 Fair’ I will pick it up because the lighter colour would make a difference.

The Remaining products – Progress
