Where I’ve Been…

Hello, hello! Long time no blog! In 2021 I haven’t blogged much at all, it’s not through not wanting to but I feel like I haven’t had much to say and I’ve been enjoying keeping under the radar a little bit and using weekends as chill out time to read and catch up on other things. I still read other blogs almost every day and do want to put out posts when inspiration strikes. This is kind of the reason for this post, bridging the gap talking about what I’ve been feeling and what’s been happening and a push to get me excited about blogging again.

I’ll start by rewinding back to April/May of this year when I felt things start to change. In April my mum was in hospital again, thankfully it wasn’t as serious as her admissions in 2020 but the situation doesn’t get easier. She came out a week later and over the past six months her and I have noticed improvements. She’s able to do more and walk further without getting breathless as fast and she came off prednisone after being on them for a year. At the end of April I had time off work and was able to recharge. Throughout this and a few months prior I’d been feeling really tired and sometimes didn’t know how I was getting through the day. My job can be intense so on top of feeling tired I was also incredibly drained. A few people suggested I might have glandular fever based on my symptoms and how I’d been feeling. In May I went to the doctor and mentioned the tiredness and she said it sounded like I was burnt out and suggested more time off work (which I didn’t take as I would have felt guilty) and a blood test. The results came back and my white cell count was up slightly so it looked like an infection of some sort. A few weeks later I had another blood test and the cell count had gone up. I was prescribed antibiotics and had another blood test after finishing them but the cell count was still the same so I was given more antibiotics. The doctor couldn’t figure it out as she said ‘I’m pretty healthy.’ In the end I had three courses of antiobtiotics and countless blood tests and still don’t know what was wrong. I asked to be tested for glandular fever but it didn’t happen. I haven’t seen a doctor or had a blood test since July so I don’t know what my white cells are like currently. I still feel tired some days but nowhere near as bad as I was.

While all of that was going on I made sure to be gentle and kind to myself and started taking more time at weekends to relax and started not to feel guilty if I stayed in my pyjamas one day or didn’t get the house all cleaned. I’ve started pacing myself and going with the flow a bit more and listening to what my body wants. I mentioned I feel like I’ve been under the radar a little bit and I’ve enjoyed it. I’ve still been quite active on Instagram and I’ve been trying to adapt to the new features of the platform such as reels but honestly sometimes I do lose motivation with it. Reels and video content is supposedly pushed to more people but I personally find they don’t get as many likes for me. I don’t know whether my followers aren’t seeing the content, they don’t like it or a mixture of both. I will keep perservering as they have been fun to make and I like watching reels from the people I follow. I am aware the feed content has been lacking since New Zealand went back into lockdown in August and I’m working on it.

The day the second lockdown was announced I was on annual leave and hours before had received my first Pfizer jab. Absolutely the right thing to do was lockdown the country as they didn’t know if it was a Delta case or not, that decision was ridiculed but it meant lockdown only lasted for a few weeks. If you look at where New Zealand is now, the day I’m writing this post we have had the highest daily total of cases since the pandemic started and most of the country is in Level 2 which means shops, cafes, restaurants and businesses can open with social distancing and safety measures in place and mask wearing is compulsory. Okay, more of the country is vaccinated now but the case numbers aren’t plateauing or going down.

Recently on an Instagram story I was sharing thoughts and feelings I’d been having and one of those was around the way I look. I’m not feeling too confident at the moment – perhaps that’s down to not wearing makeup for three months – but mask wearing makes me feel sweaty and overheat and I don’t like the way some things are looking on me. I don’t feel like I’ve eaten more  or gained weight but I think it’s that mindset of Covid is still here there’s no point going out anywhere or putting a nice outfit on. I’m still staying home and keeping activities to a minimum. I’ve also not been in the mood for dating or trying to meet anybody, I’m happy by myself at the moment and socialising with new people during times like these makes me nervous.

Onto the last and most exciting piece of news in this post, I’ve ordered a new phone. I’ve been an Apple user for years and when I saw they had released a pink iPhone it was destined to be mine. I ordered it last week and it should arrive in a few weeks. I was tossing up between the 13 or the 13 mini but I went with the 13 in the end as it’s a similar size to my current phone but doesn’t weigh as much. It’s going to be strange not to have the home button but I’ll soon get over it. I treated myself to this phone as a) the model I currently have is 6 years old (I bought it in 2019) and it won’t last forever b) how often do you see a pink phone and c) the base amount of storage is 128GB, four times as much as my current phone. That will be useful for making more video content.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to catch up with me.
Please say hello in the comments and let me know how you’ve been lately!

How I Edit Instagram Photos

Instagram is one of my preferred social media platforms. I upload what I want and don’t plan pictures very often. I don’t stick to a specific theme or schedule and I like that the majority of my photos are taken in the moment. That doesn’t mean I don’t have a routine for editing photos and there are certain things I do to make sure photos look their best!

Note: The following process refers to photos taken on my iPhone.

Step One:

Think about the image, how it will look and the subject.

Step Two:

Choose a camera mode. If it is a selfie or an outfit picture I will mostly use ‘photo’ and if I am taking a picture of my nails or one object I will use ‘square’. This allows me to see how an image will look when it is uploaded to Instagram and there is minimal cropping.

Step Three:

Take pictures using the phone’s camera rather than the camera in the Instagram app. I find the phone camera is better quality and you get different mode options, I think the app only allows you to take a square photo.

Step Four:

Editing time! I do very minimal edits and like my feed to have a clear, bright look. To achieve this I play around with three of Instagram’s editing tools: brightness, contrast and warmth.

  • Brightness: I will increase the brightness somewhere between 30 and 60.
  • Contrast: I turn the contrast down slightly, usually -10 or -20.
  • Warmth: Certain lights can cause a yellow tinge and turning down the warmth makes the cool tones in an image shine and also adds to the bright, crisp effect. Again, I turn the warmth down -10 or -20.

Occasionally I will leave a photo unedited, normally the quotes for #PinterestThoughtTuesday. I don’t use filters very often either, if I do it’s most likely a black and white one.

Step Five:

Add caption and relevant hashtags. Save post as a draft or share instantly. Saving posts as drafts is useful if you want to post the photo later on in the day or the week and it means it’s all ready to go. If you don’t have internet access and can’t share your post instantly saving as a draft is also useful as the post is ready for when you do.

Now I will share some before and after comparisons with and without editing. All the before photos are on the left and the after photos on the right.

Example #1:

The second image shows more of the plane’s colour. The background elements are easier to see too.

Example #2:

The second image makes my skin look more flawless and gives my lips and hair colour more depth.

Example #3:

I remember debating whether to use the edited version when I shared this photo. The first image gives more of a true representation of the red but the second image is brighter and the petals look sharper and more defined.

Example #4:

The white and pink colours in the second image look clearer and don’t have the yellow tinge that the first image does.

In all four of these examples the differences are subtle but it is an editing style that takes up little time and works for me.

How do you edit Instagram photos? Are there any apps you use?

What’s On My Phone?

What's On My PhoneI have watched a few “What’s On My Phone?” videos before and really enjoyed them. I like being a bit nosy and seeing which apps people install, which apps they use frequently and how they organise them. I recently did a clean up and got rid of some apps and photos to free up space and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to show you what’s on my phone. I’m not someone who downloads a lot of apps, I only keep the ones I use frequently and I like to use my phone as a phone for calling, texting etc.

If you weren’t aware I have an iPhone 5S in Space Grey and I absolutely love it! I purchased my phone about 12 months ago and it was the first real treat to myself after starting my job. I use my phone a lot more than I thought I would which I am glad about. Previously, I didn’t even own a smartphone and used it for texting and that was it. For anyone who’s curious as to where my phone case is from, it’s made by London based graphic designer and illustrator Lili Price. The cases are made to fit a range of phones and Lili’s patterns and designs are always eyecatching!

I like my lock screen and home screen to match and I normally just use the default backgrounds and images on the phone. At the moment I’ve got a simple, grey dotted background. I like light, neutral colours as it makes the names of everything easy to read and it makes the colours of the apps pop. The apps on my phone are spread over two screens and I’m not really one to categorise everything too much. I have a Social menu and an Extras menu which I keep all the apps that come with the phone but don’t use in. The easiest way I could think of was to show you images of each screen and explain a little bit about each app. Let’s get started!

Screen #1

iPhone Screen 1

  • Westpac One – This is my banking app. I can make payments, transfer money and check balances on the go.
  • 2degrees – 2degrees is my mobile phone network. This app allows me to top up and check how much data and minutes I’ve got left on my plan for the month. I have been a 2degrees customer for years and never had a problem.
  • Gmail – I use Gmail for my blog email address. It’s always handy to have access to blog emails.

Screen #2

iPhone Screen 2

  • Instagram – Instagram is one of my favourites! I love sharing photos with you and getting inspiration from everyone else’s. How are we feeling about the new logo? Yay or nay?
  • Social Menu:
    Twitter –
I just love Twitter so much and I’m so grateful for all the good memories I have as a result of using it. It is probably my favourite social media platform.
WordPress – I check this app every morning when I wake up so I can reply to all of your lovely comments. I’ve never written a post on the app though, I prefer to go oldschool and sit at the laptop and type.
PhotoGrid – If I want to make any collages for Instagram or play around with photo effects this is what I’ll use. You can flip photos horizontally and vertically and add borders, text and cute stickers. It’s really easy to navigate and use.
  • Candy Crush Soda – This is now only the game I have on my phone and most of the time I still manage to play this every day. My mum first got me into this game when I bought my phone and I’m currently on level 224.
  • Spotify – I just use the free version of Spotify which unfortunately means I have to endure the ads and can only play an album or playlist on shuffle. I don’t use this app very often to be honest and prefer to use the desktop version of Spotify to listen to my monthly playlists.
  • Clue – I like how the name of this app is very unassuming and doesn’t give away what it is actually for. Clue is a period tracker and you can enter different data which predicts when your next period will be, how long it will be etc. You can also enter information about any pain or your mood on a certain day. I find this good for recording headaches. Clue also keeps track of your past cycles and predicts three cycles into the future.
  • Pinterest – You might be thinking why isn’t this categorised under Social but the truth is I didn’t want the second screen to look bare and only have one or two apps on it because they couldn’t all fit onto one. I have recently started a series on Instagram called #PinterestThoughtTuesday where I share a quote from my Pinterest once a week on Tuesdays. Being able to save the quotes straight from the app is handy.
  • Kindle – Recently I branched out and downloaded two eBooks from fellow blogger Aneta Quinn to read using the Kindle app. I do prefer physical copies of books but Aneta’s novels are only available digitally.
  • Revolution – I have been obsessed with Makeup Revolution lately and after adding things to my cart and taking them out I finally made my first order two weeks ago. I’ll admit I was sneaky and downloaded the app purely so I could apply the discount code and get 20% off my order.

There you have it, a sneak peak into my phone! Do we use any of the same apps? Be sure to let me know what your favourite apps are!

Boxing Day Specials

Boxing Day SpecialsHello there! I know Boxing Day was a week and a half ago but last week was busy with my yearly wrap up posts and I haven’t had a chance to share what I purchased in the sales with you until now. Everything I purchased was on sale and I’m proud of the fact I didn’t purchase one beauty product! Let’s get straight into it!

Pink Christmas Tree

1. Typo Mini Christmas Tree – Fluro Pink

I saw this mini Christmas tree as soon I walked into the store and instantly knew I wanted to buy it for my mum. She loves mini things and her and I both love bright colours. We’ve joked how next Christmas we’re just going to put this tree up instead of our big one.

Regular Price: $11.99 | Sale Price: $5.00

Handbag

2. Marikai Circle Chain Tote – Black

For a little while now I’ve been on the hunt for a new handbag and I found one that fits my criteria. Currently I’ve got a small shoulder bag and I still plan on using that for work but this black tote caught my eye. It’s a good size, has a zip closure which I like (safety first) as well as internal and external pockets. The bag also has a removable cross body strap if you want to wear it hands free. One thing I liked when modelling this bag was how lightweight it felt and the versatility in how you can wear it; hold it in your hand, wear it over your arm, put it on your shoulder or wear it across your body. The metal chains don’t make the bag bulky either.

Regular Price: $74.99 | Sale Price: $49.99

Boxing Day Purchases

3. Kylie Minogue – Kylie Christmas (Deluxe Edition)

I’m not the biggest lover of Christmas music and despite being a HUGE Kylie fan I originally had no intentions to buy this album. What got me interested was the news of a duet with Dannii and the thought of a magical Minogue-tastic Christmas track. I listened to the album on Spotify when it was released and I’m glad to say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It’s not cheesy covers that have been done to death, there are still Christmas classics but Kylie has put her spin on each track, old and new. In fact, there are six originals on the album! I can definitely see this being an album I have on repeat during the festive season and I can’t wait to get it out again next Christmas!

Regular Price: $29.99 | Sale Price: $23.99

4. kikki.K Reusable Tote Bag

As you lot already know I’m a sucker for kikki.K and I can’t resist a look everytime I pass by a shop, which unfortunately is not very often. At the back of the shop I saw a sale bin and was rifling through when I found this tote bag. The bag is made of umbrella-like material and is light pink with a cute little fox design. The bag comes in it’s own pouch and I plan on keeping this inside the black handbag mentioned above. This bag will be perfect for shopping and trying to keep bits and pieces dry from the rain.

Regular Price: $12.90 | Sale Price: $6.45

5. kikki.K Minimalist Phone Case

Sad news, last week I noticed a crack in my Lili Price geometric phone case and ended up purchasing this one from kikki.K as a backup. The crack is pretty small and I know it’s there but luckily it’s near one of the corners so it’s not too noticeable. This phone case is from kikki.K’s Minimalist collection which embodies simplicity and lots of black and white which I love. I had actually seen this phone case prior to purchasing my Lili Price one and seriously considered it as an option then. When I saw it again there was something telling me to get it, so I did. The message on the back reads: “Talk, Share, Inspire, Connect, Love” – simple but effective. I feel it relates to me as a blogger and how important it is to appreciate those things in life.

Regular Price: $12.90 | Sale Price: $6.45

I hope you enjoyed seeing everything I picked up! As you can see I didn’t go overboard in the sales but I still got some good bargains. Let me know what you managed to pick up!

Fifteen of ’15

Fifteen of '15Hello beautiful people! Is it just me or does the thought of another year about to begin suddenly make you reflect on the one that’s been? Yesterday’s post saw me talking about my favourite things in 2015 beauty wise, but today I will be sharing with you fifteen of my personal highlights from the past year. Prepare yourselves, this one gets a bit wordy…

#1 – Followed by Lisa Scott-Lee and Faye Tozer on Twitter

If you know me well, you’ll know pop music is my absolute favourite thing in the whole wide world! I could talk about it for days and my head is filled with plenty of pop facts other people would deem ‘useless.’

Lisa and Faye are members of British pop group Steps who are one my favourite bands of all time. On New Year’s Eve 2014, Lisa followed me on Twitter. I didn’t ask her to (though I had in the past) and it was an incredible way to begin the new year. A month later at the end of January, Faye did the same. I have always counted myself lucky to have been tweeted by all of Steps numerous times but to have your idols follow you is a special feeling.

#2 – First time clubbing

In January I turned 20 and celebrated by going out to dinner and then going out clubbing. In New Zealand you can go clubbing once you turn 18 and almost everyone else I know had been but I wanted my first time to be special and worth it. I enjoyed myself a lot and I think that was down to my love for music, I wasn’t self conscious dancing in front of people and I could’ve kept going all night (which I did at a few 21st’s this year!) I haven’t actually been clubbing again but when I do go I know I’ll enjoy it.

#3 – Interviewed by Karen and Kimberley

This year I had the opportunity to feature on the blogs of two of my best blogging buddies. In February, I featured in Karen’s Behind The Blog series and in June I was featured as an Inspirational Blogger on Kimberley’s blog.

#4 – Purchased my first MAC lipstick

In April I made my first visit to the MAC counter and ended up purchasing my first lipstick; Syrup. I couldn’t be more happy with my purchase and still reach for this shade a lot. This is a lovely, girly, neutral shade and definitely worth a swatch next time you’re at the MAC counter!

#5 – Yoga With Adriene

Looking back, April was a very good month. I decided to take on Yoga With Adriene’s 30 Days of Yoga challenge and I blimmin’ loved it! I was a complete newbie to yoga but I didn’t find the positions too challenging. I like how calm yoga made me feel and I enjoyed taking time out for myself every day.

#6 – Getting my first job!

In May I had my first day of paid work and it was such a good feeling to finally have a job. Prior to starting my job I had been to numerous interviews and had been job searching for 18 months.

#7 – Buying my iPhone

In June I made my first big purchase since beginning my job and got an iPhone. I’d had my previous phone for three or so years and it was a basic phone I only used for texting. I worried I wouldn’t use an iPhone very much but I am so glad I bought it and it’s super handy if I need to take pictures when I’m out or want to play a game when I’m bored.

#8 – Winning #Disco25

Dannii Minogue celebrated the 25th anniversary of her debut single Love & Kisses this year and launched an Instagram competition to mark the occasion. I entered and recorded a video of me singing along and was chosen as one of the winners. I received a signed Love & Kisses vinyl record and hand written note.

#9 – Shane Filan – Right Here

I have been a Shane Filan fangirl for the longest time and he released his second solo album ‘Right Here’ in September. I still get excited whenever I listen to Shane’s music. His voice is undoubtedly my favourite to listen to over anyone else – it’s so smooth and clear and he has the most beautiful tone. Shane also co-writes most of his solo material. Personally, I prefer Shane’s debut album as it’s really special to me and brings back so many good memories of 2013; hearing Shane’s solo music for the first time and Shane replying to my questions in Q&A’s.

#10 – Reaching 500 followers!

Also in September I hit a blogging milestone, I reached 500 followers! That was a big achievement for me and a goal I had my eye on since starting my blog. I’m not someone who worries about numbers and tries to be in competition but 500 was a big deal and it made me realise people out there enjoy reading my blog.

#11 – Starbucks French Vanilla Frappucinos

I’m not a coffee drinker and don’t go to Starbucks all that often but when Starbucks had their French Vanilla Frappucinos out I loved them! They’re so tasty and refreshing and I’m gutted they’re not part of the permanent menu. Fingers crossed Starbucks bring them back.

#12 – 44 Ways You Know You’re a Dannii Minogue Fan

October is Dannii Minogue’s birthday month and I decided I wanted to make something for her. In 2014 I sent a parcel to Australia but I wanted to do something different. Originally I came up with the video idea ’44 Reasons I Love Dannii Minogue’ which evolved into ’44 Ways You Know You’re a Dannii Minogue Fan’ so other Minogue fans could relate. Dannii tweeted me to say she saw the video and loved it which absolutely made my day!

To watch the video yourself, click here.

#13 – All Blacks win Rugby World Cup

Most people wouldn’t expect me to like sport but when it comes to rugby I turn into a proud Kiwi. My mum had no doubt the  All Blacks would win and getting up early to watch the final game between New Zealand and Australia was thrilling. The match was entertaining and the All Blacks made history by being the first country to win back to back rugby world cups and being the first country to win the rugby world cup three times.

#14 – Ellie Goulding – Delirium

‘Delirium’ has been named one of 2015’s Best Pop Albums and with good reason! Call me biased but I believe anything Ellie touches turns to gold. I never get sick of listening to Ellie’s music and could listen to her on repeat all day, there’s not many artists I can say that about. I have been listening to Delirium since it’s release and honestly, it gets better with each listen.

#15 – Confidence

In many ways I have saved the best for last. I remember being nominated for the #TakeBackWhatsYours campaign at the beginning of the year and I am pleased to say I rose to the challenge. Over the past 12 months I have changed a lot (for the better) and felt myself grow in confidence. Now I don’t think twice about sharing images of myself on my blog and being open and honest. I’ve learnt to make myself a priority and do what makes me happy. I’ve also become more confident with my writing and the direction I want my blog to go in.

Corresponding post: #TakeBackWhatsYours Campaign

Thank you to everyone for all your support over the past year! Wishing you the very best for 2016 and sending all my love!

Weekend Haulin’

Weekend Haulin'Happy Monday lovelies!… Another week has begun! Over the weekend I went on a little shopping trip and wanted to share what I bought with you all. Most of the items I picked up are beauty related but I also purchased a lovely journal from kikki.K and finally decided on a phone case.

MAC PatisserieMAC Patisserie

One of the first stops had to be the MAC counter. Ever since I got Syrup a few months ago I’ve been hooked and couldn’t wait to pick up another gorgeous lipstick! I almost went for Patisserie over Syrup last time so naturally it had to be my pick this time round. Patisserie is described as a ‘sheer creamy neutral pink’ and has a lustre finish. It looks a little brown in the bullet but shows up lighter when swatched. This colour aims to be quite nude and close to a natural lip colour – I can’t wait to try this out!

MaybellineMaybelline 24Hour Color Tattoos and ‘The Falsies’ mascara

Maybelline’s 24Hour Color Tattoo creme eyeshadows are a product I’ve had on my beauty wishlist for a while and I finally picked some up over the weekend. I picked up two shades from the Metal collection: 55 Inked In Pink and 70 Barely Branded. Inked In Pink is a beautiful shimmery pink with a hint of copper and rose gold. Barely Branded is a more neutral everyday, champagne type shade. I prefer shimmery shades over matte (most of the time) as mattes can make my small eyes look heavy and shimmer helps to brighten and open them up.

I hadn’t planned on buying a new mascara but there was a 3 for 2 deal on Maybelline products so I thought why not take advantage of it? I only ended up having to pay for the mascara and one of the colour tattoos. I’ve heard good things about ‘The Falsies’ and look forward to giving it a go!

The Body ShopThe Body Shop Strawberry Lip Butter and Vitamin E Body Butter

Ever since I fell in love with The Body Shop at the beginning of the year I’ve been dying to try a product from the Strawberry range. Strawberries are one of my favourite fruits and the sweet smell of this range reels me in every time. I purchased a Strawberry Lip Butter and the smell is incredible – not overpowering and lingers when worn on the lips. I have to admit I couldn’t wait to try this one out and put some on on Saturday night.

A couple of weeks ago I used up the last of my Shea body butter and replaced it at the weekend. My skin is prone to dryness so I need a body butter that provides plenty of moisture. One of the sales assistants mentioned the Vitamin E range and as soon as I smelled the body butter my mind was made up. The scent is a little floral but relatively neutral so won’t overpower perfumes. This body butter also comes in the prettiest pink tub and even though it says normal skin on the tub it is in fact great for all skin types!

These purchases meant I reached 100 points on my Love Your Body card and I now have a voucher for $10 off my next item from The Body Shop.

kikki.K Journalkikki.K A5 Life Journal

I’m sure you all know by now how much I adore cute stationery! I regularly browse through kikki.K’s website and spotted this beautiful light blue journal. I’m a member of the mailing list and I had a coupon for $10 off so I just couldn’t resist. My goal for this journal is to write in it everyday and use it for my thoughts, feelings and anything else I want to record. The cover is soft bonded leather which I thought would make the journal stiff and hard to lay flat but this is not the case. There are over 250 pages intertwined with quotes throughout.

Lili Price phone case(Image credit).

Lili Price White Geometry Chaos phone case

I saw Lily Pebbles post a picture of this phone case on Instagram and I instantly fell in love. I’ve been looking for the perfect case and nothing really jumped out at me until I saw this one. I like the simple pattern and monochrome colours and think it will make my phone look really classy. This case also comes in black with white lines and is available on Lili Price’s website here. If you use the discount code ‘LILYPEBBLES’ you get 10% off!

I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on the items I picked up in my weekend haul. Be sure to let me know what you got up to this past weekend as well!

June Favourites

June FavouritesAnother month of 2015 down and now less than six months until Christmas! For me, June was all about the iPhone – I used to be one of those people who hated using their phone but now I love it! Beauty wise I didn’t spend a lot of money on new products but I do have a few beauty bits to include.

I apologise for the slightly late post this month but here are my June favourites:

1. iPhone – I posted about getting my phone here and it was one of my favourite posts to write and share this month. I absolutely adore the phone and everything about it. The camera is such good quality and I don’t find the battery life too bad, I have my brightness on zero most of the time as my phone is in my bag at work and only turn it up when I need to. I haven’t found a case yet so I’m still on the hunt.

2. Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water – You might have seen my ‘Mini Beauty Haul‘ featuring this cleansing water and the Rimmel nail polish Breakfast In Bed. This cleansing water lives up to all of its promises and value for money wise, it can’t be beaten. I was tempted by Simple’s Micellar Water but when I took into consideration I get double the amount for $1 more, my mind was made up – Garnier it was! In the beauty haul post I mentioned I had to rub a little more vigorously to remove my mascara but upon reflection I only notice that when I wear my Rimmel Scandal Eyes Lycra Flex mascara.

3. Rimmel Nail Polish #873 Breakfast In Bed – I think I fall more in love with this nail polish everyday! The colour is just so beautiful and is a wearable shade all year round – it’s pastel enough for spring/summer and cool enough to pull off in winter as well. I’ve had this colour on for over half of June and I can tell this polish will be getting a lot of wear.

4. Simple Kind To Skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser – I’ve had this moisturiser for a couple of months now and I feel within the past four weeks I’ve gotten into a little skincare routine that’s working well. Before this I was using Simple’s Kind To Skin Replenishing Rich Moisturiser and while that one was good as well, I feel the Hydrating moisturiser keeps my skin more nourished and does more for my skin. I’ve been applying the moisturiser twice a day – once in the morning and once in the evening. It has really helped my skin not to dry out in the cooler weather and harsh winds.

5. Candy Crush Soda – It was my mum who actually got me addicted to this game. She got a new phone recently too and loves to spend her free time playing away! I used to play the normal Candy Crush on Facebook but now that one doesn’t seem as exciting as Candy Crush Soda. (I’m currently on Level 45).

6. Years & Years – King – I have been hearing this song a lot on the radio at work and I really like it. I love a good beat!

That’s all for this month, be sure to let me know what you’ve been loving!

Sick Day Essentials

Sick Day EssentialsHello lovelies! How was your weekend? I hope it was a lot better than mine! I wasn’t feeling the best so I spent most of my weekend in bed but I still found enough energy to take a few pictures and get the majority of work done for this week’s blog posts.

I got a sore throat in the middle of last week and I hoped it wasn’t going to turn into anything serious as my colds normally start in my nose. The downside to working in a pharmacy is how easy it is to be exposed to illness. I should be thankful I don’t get sick very often but when I do I have to be very careful as I’m asthmatic and have to make sure my breathing is okay. Here’s an insight into what the past few days have been like for me and what has kept me distracted from feeling so rotten.

1. Cough lozenges, medicine etc.

This is pretty bog standard when it comes to getting through a cold and I’ve been using it all from cough lozenges to paracetamol to nasal spray. The Strepsils Honey & Lemon lozenges have really made a difference. These lozenges contain two antibacterial agents to help kill the bacteria causing my sore throat and help soothe my throat.

2. iPhone

I’ve loved being able to use my phone for multiple purposes this weekend. I’m currently obsessed with playing Candy Crush Soda so I’ve been using it for that as well as my own little sound system. The speakers are great quality and playing songs on my phone as opposed to my laptop means I don’t have to turn the device off and reshuffle the songs everyday. I’m one of those people who hardly has a day where I don’t let my music play through without skipping a song.

I was lying in bed on Saturday night scrolling through everybody’s posts using the WordPress app as well – so handy!

3. Dainty Doll – Wonderbalm

Is it just me who gets really dry lips when they’re sick? Dainty Doll’s Wonderbalm is the perfect thing to use as a lipbalm to keep lips nourished and supple. It sinks in and doesn’t leave a sticky feeling or leave bits of dry skin on the lips. It certainly lives up to its name!

4. Reading Material

Whether it be a book or magazines, reading is a great way to pass the time and keep your mind occupied. I decided to started re-reading Shane Filan’s autobiography My Side of Life. I read it within a matter of days last time and he always makes me smile so it’s a lovely distraction.

5. YouTube + Catching up on TV shows

I have been getting into YouTube and Vloggers a lot lately and I couldn’t wait to catch up on videos from Lily Pebbles and Vivianna Does Makeup. They are such great girls, always have interesting videos and are naturals in front of the camera.

At the weekend I also took the time to catch up on American drama series Revenge. I have watched it from the very first episode and series four (the last one) is airing in New Zealand at the moment. I’ve got four episodes left. To those of you who have already seen it/finished it, no spoilers please!

6. Homemade vegetable soup

My mum’s homemade vegetable soup is one of the highlights of the winter season for me and I very kindly asked her to make some as I thought it would make me feel better. It’s so yummy and healthy – I end up getting my five a day in one cup. (And when you have multiple cups a day…)

7. Chocolate

I’m not much of a sweet tooth and maybe this weekend I’ve indulged in chocolate more than I should, but I’m allowed right?! I’m definitely not a chocoholic but I do have a soft spot for Caramello – that combination of milk chocolate and smooth caramel is divine! Eating chocolate releases endorphins to make you feel happy and feel good which is what you need when you’re not well. Quite often I have chocolate when I have a headache and it always makes me feel better.

Caramello chocolate

Shhh!

Saturday was the worst day and I’m definitely feeling a lot better now than I was at the weekend.

Let me know in the comments what makes you feel better when you’re sick!

My New iPhone!

My New iPhone!Hey there!

I’ve been looking forward to sharing this post with you all week and I am VERY excited to report that last weekend I got a new phone!!! I am now officially part of the smartphone brigade.

My previous phone was very basic, it wasn’t a smartphone and all I used it for was text messaging. Don’t get me wrong I had it for almost three years and it was great but I found a pretty good deal on an iPhone last weekend took the plunge and went for it! Now if I’m on a break at work I’ll be able to check emails and respond to any of your lovely comments a lot quicker!

iPhone

Isn’t it beautiful!

I got the iPhone 5s in Space Grey – I’ve very much always been an Apple girl. I’ve used Apple products in the past and never had any problems. I was tossing up between the Space Grey and the Gold but went for Space Grey in the end as the colours go with everything and I was worried the Gold would get fingerprints on it. I’ve only had the phone for a matter of days so I’m still getting to know how it works and learn about everything, but one thing I would like to add is how quick and easy it was to setup. Within a matter of minutes I was ready to go! I’m really excited to start using my phone properly and in a few weeks time, I’ll be a total pro!

Having a camera on the go will be handy as I hardly ever took my iPod with me and don’t take my digital camera (my blogging camera) out. It’ll be nice to have everything on one device rather than using my phone for texting and my iPod for Instagram and music. I only got the 16GB size so I hope there’s enough room for everything haha. I’ll probably end up giving my iPod to my brother so he can use it when he goes to the gym.

Do you have an iPhone? What do you think of it? Let me know if there any apps you think I should download!

Christmas Wish List

Wish ListWhen it comes to Christmas I always feel a little guilty and like a burden at the thought of other people having to buy for me. I’d say I’m more of a giver than a receiver, I am in no way greedy and it’s the thought that counts. When I get asked if there’s anything I’d like for Christmas my mind goes blank. In today’s post I’m being a tiny bit selfish and sharing a few of my dream gifts!

1. Dannii For Target Sequin Mini Skirt in Black
I’ve already professed my love for this mini skirt here but I’m going to reiterate how much I love it. The skirt can be dressed up or down and the sequins add a fun element while still looking classy. I honestly believe this skirt would be perfect for me as it’s from a range for petites (4’11” – hello!) Damn Target Australia for not shipping to New Zealand 😦

2. iPhone
These days there’s normally only one question when it comes to smartphones, iPhone or Android? Having used Apple products for years I’m definitely on Team iPhone but there’s still a part of me that thinks do I even need a smartphone. Sure it would be nice being able to do everything on the go and having a fancy new toy but I don’t know that I’d use my phone for much else other than txting.

3. Mariah Carey Mini Holiday Set Liquid Sand
As part of OPI’s Mariah Carey range a limited collection of polishes were released in 2013. In this set there are three mini liquid sand polishes each containing 3.75mL: Emotions, It’s Frosty Outside and Kiss Me At Midnight. I haven’t tried liquid sand before but I like the way it looks. The mini size is a good way to sample each colour without committing to buying a full bottle.

4. Becky Higgins Project Life Journal Themed Cards
Themed cards are a great addition to your existing Project Life projects or work well on their own. I don’t do Project Life but I love the cards and their cute designs.

Each pack contains 40 double-sided cards:

  • Four 4×6 inch title cards
  • Four 4×6 inch journaling cards
  • Thirty two 3×4 inch journaling cards (16 designs printed twice)

These are just a few of the things I’d be more than happy to get for Christmas. Of course there are personal, intangible gifts that can’t be bought but I hope you enjoyed seeing my wish list!

What’s on your Christmas list this year?
