Redhead Rambles #39

Hello everyone and welcome to ‘Redhead Rambles’. The series does what it says on the tin, it is a redhead (me) rambling about her week. I share what I’ve been up to each week, how I’ve been feeling and what I’ve been listening to or watching. Occasionally I will my share favourite blog posts and links I’ve found useful or interesting.

Last Friday I drew my giveaway winner for Monday’s announcement post. If you aren’t already aware, the winner is Nadine!
Late on Friday night I placed an xoBeauty order. I ordered one of the Radiant Glow Highlight Powders and a Detail Fibre Brush. I have heard Shannon mention this brush is particularly good for blush which is what I intend to use it for. As Monday was a public holiday in New Zealand the items shipped on Tuesday and arrived the next day.
I was very tired on Saturday but luckily perked for work on Sunday.
On Sunday I ordered Dominos pizza online and there was a mix up, I ended up with two deliveries at my door. I went to pay with my card online and it said the transaction could not be processed and it timed out and directed me back to the home page. I started my order again and selected a different payment method this time. Luckily I did because it turns out the first payment and order had gone through and after the first order had been delivered a second one turned up. I explained the mix up and realised I should have phoned the store. I felt bad so I Facebook messaged the company and they told me not to worry, I wouldn’t get in trouble for sending the second delivery man away.
On Monday I didn’t sleep in but I was tired again so I had an afternoon nap.
Tuesday was very hot and I had a few errands to run after work; go to the chemist and get a few bits from the supermarket. At the supermarket I bought a pain au chocolat for morning tea on Wednesday and it was delicious!
Wednesday was also my last day of work for a little while, my annual leave started on Thursday.
No sleep in again on Thursday so I got up and made a mocha and an omelette for breakfast.
I wrote a list of what I want to get done during my time off and I managed to cross off pluck eyebrows and shave legs within the first day.
I bubble wrapped the giveaway items and found a box to send them in to keep them secure.
I tried The Body Shop’s Virgin Mojito body butter for the first time and it smells so fresh. The formula is soft and creamy and it’s a gorgeous lime green colour.

Dua Lipa – Dua re-released her debut album with new tracks.

1,000 Followers Giveaway WINNER!

My 1,000 Followers Giveaway closed on Wednesday and today I get the joy of announcing the winner!

Firstly, thank you to those who took time to enter the giveaway! I honestly thought there would be more entries but on the plus side, the entries I did get had less competition and higher odds of being chosen!

As mentioned in the rules of the giveaway post in order to choose the winner I selected my five favourite entries based on adherence to the rules and general blog engagement. From there I assigned each entry up to three numbers (depending which platforms each person entered on) and the date of their comment.

I drew up a page in a notebook and recorded all the entries. The names with the asterisks beside were my five favourites. Further down the page I wrote a list of the five names and their assigned numbers.

The number generated ranged from 1-13 (as not everyone entered across all three platforms). I then used Google’s random number generator to select the overall winner!

I will be in contact shortly Nadine and I aim to package everything up and ship it off as soon as possible!

Redhead Rambles #38

Fridays seem to be becoming my ‘lazy’ day. I welcomed the rain and once again decided not to get dressed on one of my days off.
The sun was out on Saturday but it was freezing cold. I changed outfits three times until I was finally warm enough.
On Saturday night I noticed a sore throat and by Tuesday morning I was sick. I’ve spent most of this week not feeling the best. Once again I think it is a sinus infection, which I have suffered from more than usual this year. Basically this week has consisted of sinus rinses, paracetamol and probiotics.
I haven’t listened to music this week as I haven’t been able to sing or felt like it.
On Monday for dinner I had homemade pizza with some leftover roast chicken from Sunday night which was delicious!
On Tuesday evening I went along to a customer service course I enrolled in through work. I was going to pull out after seeing how personal the questions in the first module were but one of my colleagues encouraged me not to. I spent the weekend stressing about the course and because I wasn’t able to attend the first night a couple of weeks ago I felt out of the loop. Tuesday night’s class was fine and I even won a pair of Chanel earrings. I don’t think they are the real thing but they look pretty!
I didn’t sleep well at all on Tuesday night. I woke up with a dry throat shortly after 3am and didn’t properly get back to sleep. I had to get up for work just after 6am.
My blog giveaway closed on Wednesday. I will be double checking the entries this weekend and drawing the winner. The winner will be announced in Monday’s blog post!
As part of work we have a mobile library van which visits schools and community stops and allows people to get books out without coming into the library. On Thursday I went out on both the morning and afternoon runs and we stopped at a bakery for afternoon tea. I had a jam and cream donut and a sausage roll as a treat.
My online order from White Fox Boutique arrived and when I got home from work on Thursday I tried on the t-shirt dress and bodysuit. Both pieces are really nice and I posted pictures on Instagram if you want to see what they look like. I am a little bummed that after I ordered them the items were discounted even more but that’s what happens when you shop online sometimes.

Friday was a busy day. Mum took her car to get serviced and a WoF (Warrant of Fitness). After that I was on a mission to find a hat for quiz night at the last minute. My team were The Three Musketeers and I improvised by adding an elastic feather headband to a hat. We had swords and stick on moustaches to complete the look.
Quiz night was fun (but long) and there was definitely an age bias on the questions. Our team didn’t come last which was the goal and we ended up with a goody basket to split between us. The dinner was lovely and dessert was even better, there was cheese and crackers and a caramel chocolate brownie.
My quiz night makeup was so pretty and I felt like a very glamorous musketeer!
I had a sleep in on Saturday and had an easy day. I prepped upcoming blog posts, read some of my book and made macaroni cheese for lunch.
On Sunday I loved my makeup yet again and went for a smoky eye with pops of pink on my cheeks and lips.
Work was quiet but that’s the only day it has been quiet this week. There’s only a couple of days left of school holidays which is a relief!
I woke up around 6am on Monday morning with the worst migraine I’ve had in a long time. I got up and took some ibuprofen and put herbal relief cream on my shoulders but my head was pounding and I ended up vomiting from the severity of the pain. I phoned in sick on Monday and went back to bed.
To cheer myself up on Monday afternoon I placed an order on White Fox Boutique. I purchased a bodysuit (I haven’t worn one before but the strap detailing on the one I ordered is really nice) and a t-shirt dress. Depending on how the t-shirt dress looks and the length, it may be nice to use as sleepwear for summer. At the time of this post the order is yet to arrive.
I wore one of my favourite lipsticks on Tuesday – Show Orchid by MAC – and it got such lovely comments!
On Wednesday I published another of the most personal posts I think I’ve ever written. I shared my thoughts and feelings towards dating, love and relationships. To read the post, CLICK HERE.
Wednesday also marked World Mental Health Day and I saw lots of positive, uplifting posts on Instagram and Twitter which is great. Mental health is just as important as physical health and I wish we could live in a world where everyone felt comfortable to talk about their feelings. I used to hide away a lot as a teenager and sometimes I revert back to that but I try not to bottle things up as much anymore. Being completely honest I have days I feel alone and don’t want to bother anyone and that’s why I try to be there for others because I don’t want them to feel that way either. I am always only a conversation/tweet/DM/message away if you EVER need someone ❤
I worked extra again on Thursday.
Thursday afternoon the weather turned grey which I quite liked. Sometimes I’m in the mood for miserable, dull weather.

Redhead Rambles #36

On Friday I caught up with an old school friend and it was so nice to see her. We grabbed a bite to eat before she introduced me to those donuts – the ones you’ve been drooling over all week on Instagram! I also bought a pair of shorts which will be perfect for summer and some iridescent metal straws.
I watched *THIS* inspirational video about heartbreak. I agree with so much of what Jessica says and for anyone going through heartbreak I recommend watching this video.
At the weekend I mowed the other half of the lawns and finished a book.
Sunday was relatively quiet at work but it’s always a good catch up day and a chance to get the shelves looking nice.
I stayed an extra hour at work as a staff member wasn’t feeling well.
After work I was hungry as I only took an apple. Because I worked longer I was entitled to a longer break and I decided after I finished to order a cheesy garlic pizza from Dominos. I also got cheesy garlic bread and mini Dutch pancakes. Best after work treat!
Monday was super busy at work with the start of school holidays.
When I got home my Blush Queen palette from Makeup Revolution had arrived and I’ve been testing out various shades this week. The pink isn’t too much and it’s a gorgeous palette!
Wednesday would have been Tango’s 9th birthday, I shared a couple of images on my personal Facebook in memory of her. (Tango was my Birman cat who had to be put down in January this year. I now have another cat the same breed and colouring as Tango called Halo).
I bought a lotto ticket this week and won $23! The draw was on Tango’s birthday which I took as a sign to buy the ticket.
Also on Wednesday there was a rainbow dance party at work (for children) and staff were allowed to dress up in colours. It was so nice to see everyone make an effort and see everyone looking so bright.
Throughout this week I have been organising bits and pieces for a quiz night with a couple of work colleagues. I absolutely love trivia and general knowledge and I’m hoping we do well.
The weather has been stunning this week but turned a little cold again on Thursday.

What I’ve been listening to:

Calvin Harris & Sam Smith – Promises – I’ll admit Sam Smith has a lovely voice but his music is not usually my cup of tea. This track with the dance beat is super catchy though!

LeAnn Rimes – I used to love LeAnn Rimes and was listening to a playlist with Can’t Fight the Moonlight as one of the tracks – cue playing her Greatest Hits album on Spotify.

Redhead Rambles #35

Last Friday was a lazy day, I try to have at least one during my days off if I can haha! I didn’t sleep in, I didn’t get dressed and had a phone call with my brother in the evening.
The weekend weather was glorious, the sun was out both days. Saturday had a chill in the air but Sunday was warm.
On Sunday after work I mowed 1/2 of the lawns.
I placed a kikki.K order – their stationery is so cute and really good quality! I purchased a mini calendar for my mum; she likes to get one every year, a notepad, a holographic mug and inserts for my Filofax for 2019.

On Tuesday I saw two cute dogs sitting in cars, one on my way into work and another in a car in the supermarket car park.
I also placed a Makeup Revolution order and purchased two palettes, the Blush Queen palette for myself and another surprise palette for my blog giveaway (I did mention some extras). I am a little nervous for the Blush Queen palette as I don’t wear much pink on my cheeks but I’m hoping because these are shimmery they will be ok. I can always try the shades on my eyes as well.

I worked extra on Wednesday and didn’t get afternoon tea so I was starving by the time I finished work. I was naughty and got Burger King on the way home. I got a cheeseburger thrown in for free that I didn’t even order – thank you kind person on drive thru!
I didn’t sleep in on Thursday. I spent the morning thinking about blog posts for October.
I washed a couple of makeup brushes and my makeup sponge.
I removed my chipped nail polish, the remnants of the rose gold shade I shared on Instagram last week.

Claire Richards – End Before We Start – Claire is one of my top 5 vocalists of all time and she released the official second single from her upcoming album – swooping love ballad End Before We Start – last Friday.

Rita Ora – Let You Love Me – Rita Ora announced her highly anticipated second album will be released in November and this song was released as her new single alongside the news. Rita has a cool vibe and I really enjoyed her debut album. I have followed her music since.

L’Oreal Paradise Extatic Mascara – I purchased a tube of Lash Paradise earlier this year and holy cow it is amazing – the hype is real! I purchased Lash Paradise online but New Zealand stores sell Paradise Extatic so you’ll be getting a bronze tube instead of a pink tube.
Zoeva Cocoa Blend Voyager Palette – When I made my Beauty Bay order I picked up two of these mini palettes, one for myself and one for the giveaway. You get a mix of mattes and shimmers and this is a great little palette if you haven’t tried Zoeva or the original Cocoa Blend palette before.
Zoeva Voyager Travel Brush Set – This set contains four mini makeup brushes housed in a little travel pouch: Concealer Buffer brush, Luxe Crease brush, Luxe Smoky Shader brush and Brow Line brush.
The Body Shop English Dawn Gardenia Body Lotion – This scent is gorgeous and feminine and after using the body butter and loving it I wanted to pass my adoration for the scent onto someone else. ‘Lose yourself in a sumptuous blend of enticing tuberose and hundreds of English white gardenias.’
The Body Shop Vanilla Pumpkin Hand Cream – I admit I was going to keep this one for myself but I have plenty of other hand creams and if the scent doesn’t return this year you’ve got your hands on it!

Redhead Rambles #34

I watched a couple of cool YouTube videos: this wardrobe clearout from Jodie Melissa and Too Faced Matte-Tallic lip swatches from Shaaanxo. I personally think the Matte-Tallic colours look really pretty but I’m not sure I’d buy them being matte.
Last Friday I didn’t sleep in and started my day by finishing a book in bed.
In the afternoon I went out and bought a sleeping bag for an overnight stay I had this week as part of work.
In the evening I was watching a movie with mum and fell asleep on the couch. It was a good movie so I’m glad I didn’t miss much.
On Saturday I had a big cry and a heart to heart with mum and I don’t know how she does it but she always makes me feel better.
After that I did some driving practice and once again I didn’t panic which is good.
Work was busier on Sunday than it usually is and I was in a better mood.
I had a good makeup day and loved pairing MAC’s Tan pigment with Rimmel’s #12 lipstick (similar to MAC Morange).
On Monday after work I packed my bag for the overnight stay. I work for local council and every few months there is a one night stay at a marae (pronounced ma-rye) for staff. It was my turn to go and I spent nearly all of Tuesday and most of Wednesday there. I got home late Wednesday afternoon. The food was nice and you don’t go hungry. I woke up with a headache on Wednesday morning but it was nothing ibuprofen and breakfast didn’t fix. Embarrassingly, I fell asleep during one of the PowerPoint presentations but I wasn’t the only one which was a relief.
I had Chicken Kiev and wedges for dinner when I got home and it was delicious!
The spring weather is definitely here and we’ve had some warm days already.
On Thursday it was nice to have a bit of a lie in and have a chilled, relaxing day. Mum and I went to get the groceries and I sang and read in the afternoon.
I also decided to wear my bracelet on Thursday since getting some links taken out in June. It’s one of the first times I’ve worn it properly since I don’t like to wear jewellery to work as I’m scared I’ll knock it when I’m shelving books.
Overall it was quieter this week compared to others but it’s been nice to be slower paced and not manic.
I know I keep harping on about it but I’m literally a couple of followers away from 1,000. Seventeen of ’17

Previously I have written Sixteen of ’16 and Fifteen of ’15 so it only seemed right to continue this theme! There have been some extremely special moments throughout 2017 and also moments that have been difficult but this post focuses on the positives and sees me discuss what defined my year.

#1. Steps reform + release new album

Steps are my favourite band and on January 1st 2017 they announced they were back. The band originally split up in 2001 and got back together briefly in 2012 for a #1 Greatest Hits album, a Christmas album and two tours. In March 2017 the band announced new music and their long awaited fourth studio album Tears On the Dancefloor was released the following month. The album was re-released in October. I have had the album on repeat since April and it is my favourite album of 2017!

#2. My 22nd birthday!

22 isn’t a milestone birthday but it was special for me as I got to celebrate my first birthday with my boyfriend. I had a massage in the morning as a gift from my mum and in the afternoon my boyfriend picked me up and we went for a walk. We ate pizza for dinner down at the lakefront before he took me on a drive. It was a lovely, relaxing day.

#3. Winning Stash Matters giveaway

I was over the moon when I saw I had won this giveaway! There were so many brands and products I had never tried before and I still use lots of the products on a daily/weekly basis. (I will admit I haven’t tried the eyelash curlers yet though, sorry Stashy!)

#4. First Valentines Day

This was another super special day as it was the first Valentines Day with my boyfriend and the first time I’ve ever had a valentine. We gave each other soft toys as presents – great minds think alike – and the card he gave me was so sweet. We went for another walk, this time around a lake and I can still remember how beautiful the sky was afterwards.

#5. Winning a polaroid signed by Vanessa White

Vanessa White is one fifth of British girlband The Saturdays (my favourite band after Steps) and on Valentines Day she held a Twitter competition where she was giving away signed polaroid pictures. I was lucky enough to win one of 40 I think it was. A signed Post It also arrived with the picture.

#6. Fit Bit Zip in Magenta

I found my Fit Bit on sale for $29 in March and I have been wearing it most days since it arrived. It is interesting to see how many steps I walk each day and how that equates into distance and calories. My Fit Bit is basic and doesn’t have a sleep tracker or heart rate monitor but I like that I can clip it on and don’t have to wear it like a watch. I’ve heard so many stories about the bands snapping and having to be replaced. The battery life is good too, I’ve replaced the battery once in nine months.

#7. Going to the cinema

Up until this year I hadn’t been to the cinema since about 2007. It got expensive and most movies end up on TV anyway. I have been twice this year and I really enjoyed the experience both times; I saw Logan and IT. Maybe I should go more often?

#8. Saying ‘I love you’ for the first time

I was the one to say ‘I love you’ first and I felt so brave when I did it. Technically it was written not said aloud but I meant it. I didn’t know if my feelings were those of love as I had never felt that way before but I have said those three words countless times since!

#9. 3 years of blogging

In June I celebrated my third blogging anniversary. Three is my favourite number so it felt even more legendary.

#10. Trip to the MAC counter

I don’t have a MAC counter in my city but ended up at one unexpectedly in July. I got two items, a lipstick in the shade Show Orchid and a travel sized Studio Moisture Cream. I actually didn’t end up paying a cent as I had gift cards and my boyfriend paid for the rest.

#11. Buying a DSLR

Also in July I took the plunge and purchased a DSLR camera. I settled on the Canon 700D as it has a flip out screen so if I ever wanted to try videos or use the screen for difficult, hard to reach angles I can. I love practicing with the settings and using my camera when I can. I’d love to snap some festive, Christmas photos and share them after December 25th.

#12. Essie Glow Your Own Way

This nail polish is one of the most photogenic products I have worked with. I bought it on a whim back in August and it is subtle and glamorous at the same time. It’s easy to apply (a pain to remove) but that doesn’t detract from how nice it looks on. Essie polishes are some of my favourites!

#13. Job at the library

In August I changed jobs. I’ve loved reading and going to the library since I was a child so it’s nice that I am able to work in a place that makes me happy. I am part of the customer services team and believe or not the majority of my days are not spent putting books away. Since I started this job I have been in a much more positive place.

#14. One year anniversary with my boyfriend

Quite a few of these highlights are about me and my boyfriend but they are truly some of my most memorable and happy moments of 2017. At the beginning of September it was one year since we first met in person. We didn’t spend the day together but I did receive a cute text message.

#15. Boyfriend’s 25th birthday

I think I was more excited about my boyfriend’s birthday than my own! I jokingly thought about doing 25 presents as he turned 25 and then as I began coming up with gifts I realised it wasn’t actually a stupid idea. He didn’t know what I had planned and I had a lot of fun buying all the gifts, wrapping them and revealing the surprise.

#16. NYX Cosmic Metals – Fuchsia Fusion

Hands down this is the prettiest lip colour I own! I have a few fuchsias but this takes the crown. Pink – check, sparkles – check. This is so sparkly and pretty without looking unnatural. The formula is not sticky and comfortable to wear. The pigment is outstanding!

#17. Music

2017 has been a whole lot better for me music wise than 2016. There were some musical comebacks from 90s artists: Steps, Martine McCutcheon and Shania Twain as well as great original material from Una Healy, Dua Lipa and Vanessa White. The majority of artists I listen to are female but a special mention goes to Shane Filan who released his third album in 2017. His voice is beautiful and so easy to listen to.

Special Announcement!

I have been waiting for the opportunity to run another blog giveaway after the reception I got to my first giveaway in 2016. I ran that giveaway to celebrate two years of blogging. I want giveaways to be special and I have been planning my next one ever since.

A few months ago I noticed I was getting close to 1,000 followers on my blog and thought that would be a perfect chance for a giveaway. I am also extremely close to 300 followers on Instagram and since ‘3’ is my favourite number I wanted to combine celebrations.

THERE ISN’T A GIVEAWAY YET, but there will be as soon as I reach 1,000 blog followers and 300 Instagram followers! This giveaway will be better than my previous one (not that I want to take anything away from that) as I know how to run giveaways now and have been thinking carefully about how it will operate. The giveaway will be International and I can’t wait to reveal more!

NB: If I reach 1,000 and 300 followers in December I will be running the giveaway in the new year (January 2018). There are mailing cutoff dates around December and the busy Christmas period so the package needs to be mailed before a certain date. I wouldn’t want the items to get lost.
