Mystery Blogger Award

Last month Brianna from Brianna Marie Lifestyle nominated me for The Mystery Blogger Award. I had a quick check back on the blog and I have accepted this award before but it’s always fun to let you get to know me better. It’s very sweet whenever someone nominates me, thank you ever so much Brianna!

The Rules for the Mystery Blogger Award:

  1. Put the award’s logo/image in your post
  2. List the rules
  3. Thank whoever nominated you and include link to their blog
  4. Tell your readers three things about yourself
  5. Nominate 10-20 bloggers you feel deserve the award
  6. Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog
  7. Ask your nominees 5 questions of your choice

Three Things About Me:

  1. I feel the cold very easily but my skin always feels warm and radiates heat – odd.
  2. I like jewellery but I don’t wear it often.
  3. I’m sick of hearing everyone say or caption things with “living my best life” – most people try to live their best life everyday, it’s already implied.

My Answers:

1. Do you have any pet peeves?

I sure do! I wrote a post about 10 of them *HERE*. My biggest pet peeves are poor spelling and grammar and when people call me Chantelle instead of Chanelle.

2. What is your favorite food?

Probably pizza.

3. Number one place you want to travel to?

England! If you’ve read my blog for a while you’ll know how obsessed I am!

4. What do you like to do in your spare time?

I’m definitely a homebody and I love to read and listen to music/sing. I also enjoy watching TV, movies and YouTube videos, doing crosswords and jigsaw puzzles and playing with my cat.

5. Do you have any animals? If so share pictures 🙂

I currently have one cat, a Birman called Halo. My other Birman, Tango sadly passed away in January.

I nominate:

Your Questions:

1. How was your day? Be honest.

2. Who is your favourite ‘celebrity’ blogger? Why?

3. What’s your favourite music to listen to?

4. What are you looking forward to in 2018?

5. What are your hobbies?

Today’s post was short and sweet but I hope you enjoyed it!

I look forward to seeing your answers and reading your post. As always, don’t feel obliged to accept, only if you want to!

Q&A: The Answers

Hi my lovelies! Three weeks ago I put the call out for any questions you had which could be used for a Q&A post. Thank you so much to everyone here on the blog and on Instagram for your contributions. I was sent a bunch of really interesting questions, the majority of which I’ve never been asked before. I hope you enjoy reading my answers!

WordPress

A Beautiful Thing asked:

1. How did you and your boyfriend meet?

I knew this question would come up because I’ve never mentioned it before. In short, we met through Tinder. I’d literally only been on Tinder a couple of weeks before we met in real life and shortly after meeting I deleted the app. I know Tinder can get a bad rap but I think it’s down to how you use it. There are people that use it to play games and for hook ups but I’m not that kind of girl. I have standards and morals and I wouldn’t get myself into a situation that I would later regret. I was picky and didn’t swipe right for just anybody. I went into using Tinder with an open mind and I didn’t know I’d get a boyfriend out of it. I was true to myself and it seems to have paid off.

2. What’s your favourite thing about being in a relationship?

Always having someone to talk to and share things with. Nearly every week I spend two or three days at my boyfriend’s house when I’m not at work and the days I don’t get to see him we always talk. I love the little things; being asked about my day, daily good morning and good night texts and spending time together. I feel more confident since meeting my boyfriend and I have a great reason to wake up every day.

3. What places/sites would you recommenced seeing in NZ?

I’ve barely traveled around my own country so I don’t feel like the best person to answer this question but I’ll try…

When you fly into NZ you land in Auckland so I’d recommend spending time there for the amount of things there are to do: malls, theme park, zoo, restaurants etc. It is the largest city so there’s always something going on! I live in a place called Rotorua which you might like if you want to learn more about culture and experience natural wonders like geysers. The South Island is popular with tourists in terms of landscape. If you’re a fan of nature and outdoors you will see some lovely sights.

British Girl In An Aussie World asked:

4. If you could only use ONE makeup brand for the rest of your life what would it be and why?

I’m a big fan of Rimmel, especially their Match Perfection foundation, mascaras and lipsticks. Rimmel is an affordable brand with quality to match!

5. How old were you when you started wearing makeup?

Properly, I’d say 13 or 14. When we’d have mufti (non-uniform) days at school I would always look forward to doing my makeup. I’d wear my mum’s blue mascara and use her eyeshadow palettes because I didn’t have any of my own. During my teens I started expanding my own makeup collection and I still have my first eyeshadow palette.

6. What is your favourite thing about The UK?

The quality of music and musicians. I listen to a lot of British artists.

Also, the fact my boyfriend is British. We’re meant to be, right?!

Helpless Whilst Drying asked:

7. If all your lipsticks disappeared, what would be the first three you repurchase?

I’m cheating and choosing four: MAC Syrup/Brave (I can’t make up my mind which one), BYS – Fuschia Surprise, Australis – Gangsta Rap and Frambourjoise by Bourjois. All my favourite bold colours covered as well as a neutral/everyday colour.

Lifestyle Bites 3 asked:

8. What is your main step to contour and sculpt?

I cannot and don’t try to contour. I sometimes sweep some bronzer over my cheeks and that is it. I don’t know a lot about contouring but the 3 shape works well for the face outline and the W motion over the nose and tops of the cheeks.

9. How do you keep track on the lifespan of a product?

I don’t follow product lifespans religiously and tend to go with my instincts. If something smells bad and the texture is off I’ll throw it away but I’ve never had any reactions and don’t have any sensitive areas. Some mascaras I keep past the three month mark and lipsticks I tend to keep for a couple of years.

Instagram

nadine_blewett asked:

10. What is your favourite drugstore lipstick?

BYS – Fuschia Surprise. It’s my shade! A good alternative is Lollipop by Revlon.

angwooly asked:

11. Do you prefer getting up early or staying up late?

Depends on my mood. I used to be more of a night owl a couple of years ago but most nights I’m in bed around 11pm.

12. If you could only use one makeup product what would you choose?

Lipstick. I would be lost without my bright, bold shades.

13. If you could teleport anywhere in the word right now, where would you choose and why?

New Zealand is pretty awesome but it’s a dream of mine to visit The UK. I’d also like a getaway to somewhere resort-like such as Bora Bora and relax by the water, get massages and laze around – it would be bliss right now.

stashmatters asked:

14. What’s your dream job?

I want to be a singer!

15. If you won $10 million, what would you do?

Be boring and put most of it in the bank. I’d give some to those who I care about and build my dream house and travel. I can’t name every single thing I’d do because in the moment I might make a different decision and an opportunity could arise as a result of a decision I make.

16. What’s your fondest childhood memory?

This sounds a little bit sad but I don’t know I have one. I remember having a happy childhood and although we didn’t have a lot of money I wasn’t unhappy. I always had clothes on my back, food to eat and a mother who put her children first. One of my favourite things to do was sing along to Shania Twain and do my hair like hers. That resonates with me because years later I rediscovered her music and now I’m able to appreciate it more. Listening to Come On Over always makes me nostalgic.

17. What’s your biggest regret?

Sacrificing my happiness for the sake of others. Not standing up for myself and not being able to say no.

18. Pizza, hotdog or hamburger?

Pizza – thin crust pepperoni with barbecue sauce! 🍕

lovekylie1 asked:

19. Are you an only child?

No. I have one brother who is three years older than me.

I had a ball reading through your questions and answering them! Which answer was your favourite? Did any surprise you? Let me know if you’d like another Q&A in the future!

Q&A: Ask Me Anything!

In 2016 I held a giveaway and one of the conditions of entry was to leave at least one question in the comments. I enjoyed seeing all the questions and answering them so much that I wanted to send the call out again. Unfortunately, this time there is no giveaway involved (but perhaps again in the future!)

It’s been almost a year since the giveaway and I have gained new readers in that time. I want to give the new readers and my old readers the chance to get to know me better by asking any burning questions. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like and make them as personal as you wish. I will only not answer a question if I deem it to be inappropriate.

You have two weeks to get your questions in, from May 18 (today) until June 1. The post will be up after I have had time to go through the questions and prepare my answers. Feel free to tweet me questions as well if that’s more your thing.

Happy asking!

The Blue Sky Tag

Last week the lovely Ella from Ella May Garrett tagged me to do The Blue Sky Tag. I am always so appreciative when fellow bloggers nominate me. I enjoy reading these tags and following up on the nomination and sharing my answers. I hope you learn something new about me from this post!

Rules:

  • Thank the person who nominated you.
  • Answer the 11 questions.
  • Tag 11 people.
  • Give them 11 questions to answer.

Ella’s Questions:

1. What are your top 5 favourite blogs?

I’m going to pick 5 blogs I read the most and people’s whose blog posts I always look forward to reading.

2. Favourite place you have ever visited?

I haven’t visited there yet but I’m going to go out on a limb and say England!

I’ve never been out of New Zealand and don’t have one particular spot I connect with or call my own.

3. If you could relive any moment of your life what would it be?

Ooh, this is a tough one! Possibly the day I met my boyfriend because that was a pretty awesome day or either of the times I saw Ellie Goulding in concert.

4. What cheers you up?

Music and singing. Also anything to distract me from feeling angry or sad.

5. Do you have any pets?

I have one Birman cat called Tango.

Fuchsia lipstick – if in doubt, fuchsia it out!

Bend over and drink from the opposite side of the glass when you have hiccups.

8. Are you left or right handed… or both?

I refer to myself as left handed because that’s the one I write with. I actually use both of my hands. I write with my left but do everything else with my right; cut, hold a tennis racquet/cricket bat and play guitar. (I don’t play guitar anymore but when I did at school I would strum with my right hand).

9. Do you have any tattoos or piercings?

I don’t have any tattoos. I have each of my ears pierced once.

10. Who is your favourite actor?

I don’t have one. I don’t watch a lot of movies and there’s no one I particularly like. There are people I think are good actors like Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock but they’re not my favourites.

The Mystery Blogger Award

mystery-blogger-award

I haven’t done an award post for a while despite being nominated for a few lately! I’m sorry I haven’t gotten back to those of you who have nominated me but it’s because I’ve accepted the award previously. I do want to take this opportunity to mention and thank you all though.

Get To Know Me

Get To Know MeIt never fails to make me smile if I have been nominated for an award or to take part in a tag by my fellow bloggers! Last Friday, the wonderful Karen from Confetti and Curves nominated me to do answer these ‘Get To Know Me’ questions. I love reading these posts as much as I enjoy writing them and hopefully you’ll get to learn something new about me!

What is your middle name?

Hayley.

What was your favourite subject at school?

Weirdly enough, the two I seemed to do the best in; English and Media Studies. My Media Studies teacher is one of the loveliest people and I still keep in contact with her from time to time. Writing and analysing has always been a strength of mine.

What is your favourite drink?

A little bit boring but, water – I don’t get sick of it! I also like raspberry lemonades, a capful of raspberry cordial mixed with a glass of fizzy lemonade – delicious!

What is your favourite song at the moment?

Snakehips – Cruel ft. Zayn. He’s done it again! I am absolutely loving Zayn’s solo stuff considering I’ve never been a 1D girl.

What’s your favourite food?

Crispy, golden hot chips.

What is the last thing you bought?

A new hairbrush.

Favourite book of all time?

I don’t have a particular book that I’ve read over and over again but I did really enjoy P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern. I have seen the movie but I don’t think it’s anywhere near as good as the book.

What is your favourite colour?

Pink – I’m your typical girl.

Do you have any pets?

I have one cat, a little Birman girl called Tango. I did have another cat, Chase but he had to be put down a couple of years ago.

Favourite perfume?

Viva la Juicy by Juicy Couture. I have a big 100ml bottle and most of the time I only wear it if I’m going somewhere nice, it’s too special to be my everyday perfume.

Favourite holiday?

Does this mean holiday to celebrate (Christmas, Halloween etc.) or favourite holiday I’ve been on?

I have never had a holiday in my life and celebration-wise, I’d say Christmas is my favourite. I get to give presents and it’s always a time to over indulge with food.

Are you married?

No.

Have you ever been out of the country, if so how many times?

No, I’ve never been out of New Zealand. I mention this all the time, but I really really really want to go to England!

Do you speak any other language?

I took French at school for about six years and I know some Maori.

How many siblings do you have?

I have one older brother.

What is your favourite shop?

Probably The Body Shop (I’d hate to think how much I’ve spent in there) or MAC.

Favourite restaurant?

Eating out makes me anxious and I don’t do it very often. I am a fussy eater so I always like to look at a restaurant’s menu beforehand and pre-plan what I’m going to order. I’d rather have a burger from McDonalds than a fancy three course meal.

When was the last time you cried?

I actually can’t remember… I think it would have been when I lost my job about a month ago.

Favourite blog?

There’s not one person’s blog I check every single day but I try to scroll through my reader a couple of times a day so I do see your posts!

Favourite movie?

I don’t have one that I always refer to or watch whenever it’s on TV but Grease and Titanic are goodies.

Favourite TV shows?

Pretty Little Liars, F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Gimme Gimme Gimme (it’s a bit rude but it’s hilarious!), Midsomer Murders, The Chase – I could go on forever!

PC or Mac?

I’ve used both and I still have my Macbook, but currently I use a PC. I’d love to get a proper iMac and have it sitting front and centre on my desk.

What phone do you have?

An iPhone 5S and I love it! I don’t mind that I don’t have the newest model and I’m certainly not one of those people who upgrades their phone every year or so when the latest model comes out. I have genuinely never had a problem with my phone and I don’t think the battery life is bad at all, it depends what you use your phone for.

How tall are you?

Teeny tiny, 4ft 11.

Can you cook?

Kind of. I don’t do much cooking but I can nail a good brownie!

Again, thanks so much to Karen for nominating me! I’d also like to nominate a few people of my own:

Dannii – A Beautiful Thing

 Claire – Eclairs Cares

Molly – The Rose Beauty Files

Gwawr – Little Girl From Wales

Caroline – Iridescent Places

Hope you enjoyed reading this post and reading my answers! Can’t wait to see yours!

Get To Know Me Tag + 200 Posts!

Before I get into the tag I just want to quickly mention that this is my 200th post and I want to say how thankful I am to anyone who’s ever read my blog and keeps coming back. The biggest virtual hug is coming your way *hugs*. Looking back at some of my older posts I can see how far I’ve already come in less than a year and all of this wouldn’t be possible without your blogs as constant sources of inspiration! Thank you again! ❤ Get To Know Me TagI saw this tag over on Katie’s blog at the weekend and the questions looked like they’d be so much fun to answer. Let’s dive straight in!

1. Is your hair naturally curly or straight?

When I was younger it was naturally straight but now the ends tend to have a bit of a natural wave which is nice.

2. Do you dye it yourself or go to a salon?

I’ve never dyed my hair.

3. Do you wear the same style everyday, or do you change it?

It depends on my mood on the day. Most of the time I wear my hair down or in a ponytail.

4. Do you do your own mani/pedi or go to a salon?

I do my own nails, but I don’t like having my toes painted lol.

5. How often do you change your nail polish?

Again, this depends on my mood. I try to do my nails once a week.

6. Do you polish your toes in the winter or just the summer?

Pretty much not at all. I’ve still got polish on my toes that I painted on more than a month ago. It seems to last so much longer than on your fingers!

7. How long does it take for you to put on makeup?

15-20 minutes at the most. Maybe a little longer if I’m being experimental.

8. What do you do first? Face or eyes?

Face. Always have done.

9. Do you collect makeup or just buy what you need when you need it?

I’m the kind of person who always feels guilty when they buy something so I’m more likely to buy makeup when I need it or if it’s on sale. My collection is pretty basic.

10. How often do you wear false eyelashes?

I’m a falsie virgin so never!

11. Do you do a full face of makeup everyday?

No, there’s probably more days in a week I don’t wear makeup than I do 😛

12. Do you wear makeup when you’re home alone or with family?

Sometimes.

13. Will you leave the house without makeup?

Yes, although I’m not as easy-going about this as I used to be.

14. How many high-end products do you have?

Haha, none 😦

15. Do you plan your OOTD every night or decide when you’re getting dressed?

If I have plans for the following day I’ll put some thought into what I’m going to wear otherwise I just wear what I feel like that day.

16. How often do you change your handbag?

I only have one ‘proper’ handbag.

17. What time do you wake up and go to sleep?

I usually wake up anywhere between 8am-11am and sleep any time between 11pm-2am.

18. How often or when do you workout?

Every day 😉

19. Left handed or right handed?

Left handed.

20. How tall are you?

4’11”

21. Do you speak any foreign languages?

Un peu de français.

22. How many pets do you have?

One – a Birman cat named Tango.

23. How often are you on WordPress?

I come on everyday when I can 🙂

24. Do you read comments posted on blogs?

Sometimes.

25. Do you keep a list of products to try as you see other posts?

Some brands and products I see on other blogs aren’t sold in New Zealand so I can only keep a wishlist.

26. How did you come up with your blog name?

Chanelle and Hayley are simply my first and middle names.

27. What kind of camera do you use for your photographs?

Sony Cybershot W810.

28. How often do you clean your house?

I always empty the dishwasher and dry the dishes and try to help out as much as possible.

29. What’s your favorite color?

Pink!

30. Do you swear?

Probably more than I should!

I hope you enjoyed this post and as the title suggests got to know me a little better. Feel free to copy the list of questions and attempt the tag yourself if you haven’t done it or you just want to give it a go like I did! Thanks for reading! Chanelle x

Calling All Bloggers!

Applications for ‘Meet the Blogger’ are now open!

If you would like to be featured on Chanelle Hayley in the ‘Meet the Blogger’ section, please contact chanelleblogs@gmail.com.

  • Use “MEET THE BLOGGER” (all in capitals) as the subject line. Include your name and your blog’s name in the body of the message.
  • You will be asked to write a short blurb about yourself and complete a list of questions.
  • Include a picture if you want it to appear alongside your post, it is entirely up to you.
  • NOTE: Grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc. will be checked by me before publishing.

Last month I introduced the idea of having a ‘Meet the Blogger’ section on the blog (see original post here). I think this is a great way to get to know more people in the blogging community, interact with them and make some new friends.

The inspiration behind this feature comes from Philofaxy’s Reader Under the Spotlight, which if you’re a keen planner enthusiast, will know well. My questions are based around  you and your blog with some bonus quick fire questions thrown in.

Lastly, I want to open up ‘Meet the Blogger’ to everyone (not just blogs who follow me). I’d love to feature bloggers from other blogging platforms as well (e.g. Blogspot, Bloglovin’) so if you know of anyone who might be interested spread the word.

Look forward to hearing from you!

Chanelle x

Get To Know Me: Part 5

In my last installment in the ‘Get To Know Me’ series I thought I’d share some of my hobbies and what I enjoy doing in my spare time.

Music/singing
Singing is what makes me the happiest; something as simple as opening your mouth can give so much enjoyment! I spoke more in depth about why I love to sing, music and the artists I like to listen to here.

Crosswords
My mum buys a weekly women’s magazine and the cryptic crossword in the puzzle section is my favourite. Some can be a tricky, but the creator, Christine Lovatt, still challenges your brain while making them possible to solve. I’m particularly good at the anagram clues 😉

Reading
Autobiographies are my preference when it comes to books. I enjoy learning about the lives of celebrities I’m interested in, what their childhood was like, their opinions and how they see the world. I also like to read about romance because who doesn’t love a happy ending?!

Television
I’m quite partial to talent shows (X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent), British murder mysteries (Midsomer Murders, Lewis, Poirot, Miss Marple) and quiz shows (The Chase, Eggheads). I don’t tend to watch a lot of American television but I am a fan of The Mentalist and Pretty Little Liars.

I hope this series of posts helped you learn a bit more about me.

I’d love to hear about your hobbies too! 🙂

Get To Know Me: Part 4

I haven’t always felt confident with my image and the way I look (to this day I’m still trying) but this year I have been putting in the effort to eat better and more healthy. In this post I will take you through how I’ve been working out.

1. Exercycling
In January my mum bought an Exercycle for my birthday and I have used it every single day except when I’ve been sick and away for the weekend. It is perfect all year round because if the weather isn’t the best I don’t have to feel guilty about not being able to exercise outside.

I started off riding 5km a day back in January which used to take me about 15 mins. Currently I cycle 10km a day which takes about 27 mins. Personally I don’t aim to cycle as fast as I can, I focus on technique.

I have noticed a difference from when I started to now, the muscles in my legs are a lot tighter and can endure the distance I cycle easier than before. I also have a food journal and exercise diary where I record my cycling, how long I do it for and the amount of calories I burn.

2. 30 Day Shred
About a month ago I completed Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred. The programme takes you through three workouts which progress by level of intensity and you do each workout for 10 days. Jillian uses the 3-2-1 interval system combining strength, cardio and abs.

I’m not going to lie when I started 30 Day Shred I found it pretty difficult but I just did the best I could. By the end of level three I did notice a difference in the amount of time I could exercise for without a break and the moves weren’t as hard as at the beginning.

If you want to try 30 Day Shred yourself, you can find all three levels on YouTube but be prepared to sweat! If you buy the DVD there is also a diet plan you can follow.

Let me know if you’ve tried 30 Day Shred and how you got on or if you plan to try it.

3. Push ups
Recently I started doing 10 push ups when I get up in the morning and another 10 before I go to bed. I have always been able to do them but previously they have given me headaches so I stopped. Since 30 Day Shred I have noticed they are easier to do and I haven’t been getting headaches. I’m trying to work on getting more definition and toning my arms and stomach.

Finally, I have also been trying some of Denise Austin’s Fat Blasting workouts, in particular her Cardio Walking workouts. Walking is simple but effective, it keeps you active and your muscles moving which helps circulate oxygen around the body.

YouTube is a great place to find quick, easy workouts to do for free and depending on the amount of time you have you can plan your workout around your day.

‘If you keep going you’ll see results!’
