Redhead Rambles #24

Hello everyone and welcome to ‘Redhead Rambles’. The series does what it says on the tin, it is a redhead (me) rambling about her week. I share what I’ve been up to each week, how I’ve been feeling and what I’ve been listening to or watching. Occasionally I will my share favourite blog posts and links I’ve found useful or interesting.

  • In my last Redhead Rambles I talked about an unpleasant doctor’s visit. Last Friday I still wasn’t better so I got an appointment with a different doctor. I got prescribed antibiotics and prednisone to help with my breathing (I am an asthmatic). Health is so important and whatever it is, it can benefit to get a second opinion if it gives you peace of mind and helps you get well again.
  • I only started getting my tastebuds back last week as well so after my visit to the doctor I was naughty and had a pie for lunch! It was mince and cheese (my favourite) and it was SO GOOD!
  • At the weekend Mum and I went for a test drive in my neighbours little Nissan hatchback and I decided to buy the car. They have owned the car for 10 years and never had trouble so we know it’s reliable and it was a good price as well.
  • Sunday evening I spent browsing the Mecca Maxima website after hearing about it from a work colleague. There are lots of brands I’d love to try but the prices aren’t the most affordable…
  • On Monday I officially bought the car, handed over the money and changed the ownership into my name. I am excited and slightly nervous but it gives me something to focus on and look forward to achieving.
  • I made a small online order from The Body Shop. I don’t think I’ve purchased anything from The Body Shop so far this year. My order arrived on Wednesday and I got a Strawberry Smoothing Face Mist, an Early Harvest Raspberry body butter and something for my blog giveaway when I reach 1,000 followers.
  • Children are off school this week and next so work has been busy and the supermarket was pretty manic too. Mum and I do our weekly shop on a Tuesday after I finish work and we still managed to get everything we needed which was good.
  • My brother came down to stay on Thursday. He bought donuts from Krispy Kreme with him; Vanilla Slice and Apple Custard Crumble. We also had fish and chips for dinner on Thursday evening!

How was your week?

Gratitude: June 2018

It’s hard to believe it is halfway through 2018 already. The year is shaping up differently to how I thought but writing down one thing everyday that makes me happy or one thing I am grateful for helps get me through difficult situations. Perhaps one day I will look back on these times and be thankful for what they taught me.

I apologise for the lack of corresponding pictures to go with highlights this month. Some weeks I haven’t been posting to Instagram much or when I have been posting it’s something different from my daily highlight.

Here’s what made me smile:

June 1: Got a few little jobs done that needed doing.

June 2: Good sleep in.

June 3: Nice to talk and laugh again.

June 4: Day off work for Queen’s birthday.

June 5: Hot chips!

June 6: Last day of work before my annual leave.

June 7: Made cheesecake this afternoon.

June 8: Phone call with my brother, first one in a while.

June 9: Ordered Indian, so good but so much food!

June 10: Bought a couple of pretty tops and a new bra.

June 11: Cleared out my clothes, been meaning to do it for ages.

June 12: Spent the day in my robe.

June 13: Dropped bracelet at the jeweller to get links removed.

June 14: Leftover fish for lunch.

June 15: Placed an order on xoBeauty, I’ve been eyeing Shaaanxo’s Remix Palette for a while now.

June 16: Apple crumble for dessert.

June 17: Bold lip for my first day back at work after time off.

June 18: My Steps DVD that I pre-ordered back in January arrived.

June 19: Got told I looked cute today.

June 20: In love with my xoBeauty bits!

June 21: Steps – Party On the Dancefloor is amazing! What a great show!

June 22: Used my xoBeauty palette for the first time.

June 23: Afternoons spent reading are some of my favourites.

June 24: Loved today’s eyeshadow look, moody and sparkly.

June 25: Used the bright pink in the Shaaanxo palette – it’s so pretty!

June 26: Sausage sandwich for morning tea.

June 27: Stood up for my rights as a customer and returned something to the supermarket that was not up to usual standard.

June 28: Chilled out days off are the best.

June 29: Really been enjoying doing my makeup lately.

June 30: Bought a facial oil from Trilogy which I’m excited to try.

What were you grateful for in June?

Gratitude: May 2018

Most days in May I have screamed, cried, felt sad/miserable and generally not felt myself. I feel broken, I feel cheap, I feel used and my trust is completely shattered. It’s important to state it’s not the person who’s made me feel like that, it’s the situation and how it happened. Right now I would say this is worse than the anxiety I experienced in 2017. I had sessions with a counsellor and I had a best friend that made me feel calm and was my getaway from everything that was going wrong when I went through the anxiety. I don’t have that anymore. Remarkably, I have still manged to find a daily highlight.

Here’s what made me smile:

May 1: Halo cuddles.

May 2: My Beauty Joint order arrived.

May 3: Macaroni cheese for lunch.

May 4: Tried some new makeup and saw Avengers: Infinity War.

May 5: Can’t beat a good movie.

May 6: Schnitzel for dinner, haven’t had that in a while.

May 7: Bright orange lipstick.

May 8: Homemade pizza for dinner.

May 9: The weather was lovely.

May 10: Crispy hot chips!

May 11: Found the prettiest cream highlighter palette 😍

May 12: Freshly painted nails.

May 13: Got to have my favourite BBQ Rodeo burger from Burger King.

May 14: Started a new book.

May 15: Pretty pink highlighter.

May 16: Kylie’s ‘Golden’ really cheered me up.

May 17: Plucked my eyebrows and cleaned my makeup brushes.

May 18: Pizza Hut chips were good.

May 19: Spent most of the day in bed looking after my sick self.

May 20: Bold lipstick is always a good idea!

May 21: Bronze/copper eyes.

May 22: Falling in love with Maybelline’s ‘The Nudes’ all over again.

May 23: Vanilla Latte after work.

May 24: Felt like blog post writing and singing again.

May 25: Productive morning.

May 26: Elements of bravery today.

May 27: Leftover pizza.

May 28: One of my favourites stayed on Dancing With the Stars.

May 29: Bought some cream buns at the supermarket.

May 30: One of my better moods in a while.

May 31: Made a list of things I want to do during my time off from work.

What were you grateful for in May?

Mystery Blogger Award

Last month Brianna from Brianna Marie Lifestyle nominated me for The Mystery Blogger Award. I had a quick check back on the blog and I have accepted this award before but it’s always fun to let you get to know me better. It’s very sweet whenever someone nominates me, thank you ever so much Brianna!

The Rules for the Mystery Blogger Award:

  1. Put the award’s logo/image in your post
  2. List the rules
  3. Thank whoever nominated you and include link to their blog
  4. Tell your readers three things about yourself
  5. Nominate 10-20 bloggers you feel deserve the award
  6. Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog
  7. Ask your nominees 5 questions of your choice

Three Things About Me:

  1. I feel the cold very easily but my skin always feels warm and radiates heat – odd.
  2. I like jewellery but I don’t wear it often.
  3. I’m sick of hearing everyone say or caption things with “living my best life” – most people try to live their best life everyday, it’s already implied.

My Answers:

1. Do you have any pet peeves?

I sure do! I wrote a post about 10 of them *HERE*. My biggest pet peeves are poor spelling and grammar and when people call me Chantelle instead of Chanelle.

2. What is your favorite food?

Probably pizza.

3. Number one place you want to travel to?

England! If you’ve read my blog for a while you’ll know how obsessed I am!

4. What do you like to do in your spare time?

I’m definitely a homebody and I love to read and listen to music/sing. I also enjoy watching TV, movies and YouTube videos, doing crosswords and jigsaw puzzles and playing with my cat.

5. Do you have any animals? If so share pictures 🙂

I currently have one cat, a Birman called Halo. My other Birman, Tango sadly passed away in January.

I nominate:

Your Questions:

1. How was your day? Be honest.

2. Who is your favourite ‘celebrity’ blogger? Why?

3. What’s your favourite music to listen to?

4. What are you looking forward to in 2018?

5. What are your hobbies?

Today’s post was short and sweet but I hope you enjoyed it!

I look forward to seeing your answers and reading your post. As always, don’t feel obliged to accept, only if you want to!

Twenty Three

Last Wednesday, January 24th 2018 I turned 23. In 2017 I read an article stating that 23 is supposed to be one of the happiest years of your life. I hope this is true and the next 365 days bring lots of excitement and happy memories for me.

If I’m being honest I wasn’t overly excited for this birthday. It was the first one without Tango (who recently had to be put down) and I’m still finding it hard without her. Despite not being able to celebrate with Tango and cuddle her I knew she would still be with me throughout the day.

I didn’t make any special plans. Both my boyfriend and I were working and I didn’t get to see him until Thursday night because he works evenings. I did decide I wanted to have some treats and after I finished work on Wednesday I bought a six pack of donuts from Dunkin’ Donuts and mum and I had fish and chips for dinner.

On the Friday, (January 26th) my boyfriend and I went to the cinema to see The Post and afterwards we got Dominos. The pizza and garlic bread was SO GOOD!

It’s a tradition on Chanelle Hayley to share a post about my birthday with plenty of pictures so here it is!

I had a sponge cake. The unfilled sponge, cream and strawberry jam were bought on Tuesday and my mum made the cake on Tuesday night. I had cake for breakfast on Wednesday.

I don’t often have donuts and wanted to treat myself. Flavours left to right, top to bottom: Vanilla Frosted, Bavarian Kreme – my favourite – (x2), Strawberry Frosted, French Cruller and Cinnamon.

Birthday Makeup:

Products Used:

  1. MAC Studio Moisture Cream
  2. Rimmel Professional Brown Pencil in 002 Hazel
  3. Max Factor CC Cream in ’40 Fair’
  4. MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NW10
  5. The Body Shop Honey Bronzer in 01 Light Matte
  6. MAC Tan Pigment
  7. Rimmel Scandaleyes Lycra Flex Mascara
  8. Becca Opal Shimmering Skin Perfector
  9. MAC Show Orchid

I filmed a video to show you the presents I received. You even get to see my face this time!

Thank you to everyone who wished me Happy Birthday!

When is your birthday? Leave a comment below.

15 Things I’ve Never Done

As bloggers and people in general we tend to talk about our achievements and things we have done. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems much more acceptable to discuss what we have tried rather than what we haven’t. In this post I will be sharing things I haven’t experienced as well as a couple of things I don’t see as negatives for having not done them.

1. Learn to ride a bike without training wheels – I know how to ride a bike with training wheels I just never graduated and got a big girl bike. I was a very small child and my mum worried I wouldn’t be strong enough to hold up and support the bike.

2. Tried avocado – I posted this fact on an Instagram story recently. Lately, it seems people around my age are obsessed with avocado and I’ve just never been interested to try it. Some people like the texture and others don’t so I’m on the fence.

3. Gone paintballing – I bruise like a peach and I don’t want my glasses to get damaged.

4. Worn eyeliner – I have tried believe me, but I cannot apply it to save my life.

5. Been late for work – Being late makes me anxious so I’d rather arrive with plenty of time to spare. It also shows you have a good work ethic.

6. Dyed my hair – I am extremely proud to be part of 2% of the world’s population that has red hair. My shade doesn’t come out of a bottle and so many kind people comment about how lovely the colour is.

7. Watched Game of Thrones – Shows like this aren’t my cup of tea.

8. Fallen over in heels – I don’t wear heels (though when I have I haven’t fallen).

9. Been financially compensated or sent free products for a blog post – This is something I don’t mind at all. I don’t discriminate against those who blog as a job and have received freebies but it’s not for me. I’m not saying I will never go down that route but in the 4 years I’ve been blogging it’s never occurred. I even wrote a whole post about why it’s okay not to get freebies *HERE*.

10. Received a bunch of flowers – Technically I have been given flowers but I’ve never had them purchased for me for a special occasion or as a present.

11. Had a hungover/been drunk – I don’t drink alcohol.

12. Had a holiday – I have visited other parts of NZ but I’ve never been out of the country or even had a short break away in NZ. For lots of families and children growing up they go on annual holidays or trips together but mine never did. I do want to explore and travel as it would be an entirely new experience.

13. Broken a bone – *Touches wood*

14. Liked seafood – I will eat battered fish from a fish and chip shop but that’s it! Prawns, oysters and all the shellfish make me flinch.

15. Donated blood – I have a slight phobia of needles. I am better than I used to be though. Maybe one day I will be brave enough.

What’s something you’ve never done?

Christmas 2017

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and are enjoying the rest of the holiday season!

As well as showing you ‘What I Got For Christmas’ I wanted to share how I celebrated Christmas day and include some lots of festive pictures. Enjoy!

Every year I’m adamant I’m not going to decorate the tree but every year I end up doing it. This year I was more selective with decorating and stuck to a colour scheme: pink, purple and silver.

The tree:

Some of my favourite decorations:

Decorations around the house:

My mum has a miniature pink Christmas tree which is my favourite. I bought it for her in a Boxing Day sale a couple of years back.

The presents looked so lovely under the tree and were placed there throughout December.

The festivities:

My family and I had our big meal a day early on Christmas Eve. I suggested this to my mum as she does the cooking and it meant we could relax more on the day itself. She wouldn’t have to spend the morning cooking. For Christmas dinner we had ham, rolled turkey, vegetables and gravy. I didn’t take a picture of this part of the meal but I did capture shots of dessert: trifle and Pavlova, a Kiwi classic! (Pavlova is a meringue based dessert usually covered in whipped cream and strawberries).

Pavlova. I placed the strawberries on top.

On Christmas Day we had leftovers for lunch before heading up to visit my aunt. I spent Christmas morning opening presents and getting ready; I curled my hair and did my makeup. *CLICK HERE* to see how I achieved this makeup look.

Christmas Day selfie.

In the evening I got dropped at my boyfriend’s house and got to open more presents and gift some too.

Presents for my boyfriend and his family:

What I Got For Christmas

I needed casual, comfy shoes and both of these pairs fit the bill.

The backdrop for all present photos is a throw which was a gift from my mum too. It’s dark grey with sparkly bits.

My mum also got me some Hershey’s Cookies ‘N’ Cream chocolate bars (these were my favourite as a kid), an Argan Oil hair mask, a London sign and some copper string lights. I plan to put the lights around my bedhead/they might come in handy for blog photos.

I fell in love with the Morphe 25A Copper Spice palette after Rachael snagged it and it instantly went on my Christmas list! This Paris jigsaw is similar to the London one mentioned in my Christmas Wishlist. I bought the London one myself so I have both!

Boyfriend/Boyfriend’s Parents:

This giraffe teddy also featured on my Christmas wishlist! I am so glad I got him and all that’s left now is to think of a name. Feel free to leave suggestions in the comments!

My boyfriend also gifted me the mug and the mini Ecoya candle. I requested Guava & Lychee Sorbet and it smells deliciously fruity – I can’t wait to light it.

My boyfriend’s parents got me a few things but the Agatha Christie book and Juicy Couture rollerball perfume were my favourite. The rollerball has Viva la Juicy at one end and Viva la Juicy Glacé at the other.

How did you celebrate Christmas? What presents did you get?
