Redhead Rambles #13

Hello everyone and welcome to ‘Redhead Rambles’. The series does what it says on the tin, it is a redhead (me) rambling about her week. I share what I’ve been up to each week, how I’ve been feeling and what I’ve been listening to or watching. Occasionally I will my share favourite blog posts and links I’ve found useful or interesting.

  • Last weekend I didn’t get to see my boyfriend as he was busy with stocktake at work and it meant we wouldn’t have much time together.
  • Mum made vegetable soup on Sunday afternoon and it is one of the things I look forward to most every year – her vegetable soup is amazing!
  • I definitely know I want to get a haircut soon but as per usual I am unsure what to go for. I am undecided as to whether I should get shorter layers or get my hair thinned out a lot. I’m open to suggestions.
  • I finally threw the items I decluttered back in February in the bin this week. I had to be sure MAC’s Silver pigment was equally as good as the silver shade in the Chi Chi palette otherwise that would have had to stay 😛
  • On Tuesday work was short staffed so I stayed for two extra hours and after I knocked off I treated myself to an iced chocolate. It tasted really good! The library has a coffee cart that sells hot and cold drinks as well as snacks.
  • My fave YouTube watches this week include Jaclyn Hill’s All Time Favourite Drugstore Products, Angela and Rory’s ‘Who’s More Likely To?’ celebrating their first wedding anniversary and In the Frow’s Best Friend Does My ASOS Haul.
  • On Wednesday I had time to fill during my lunch break and decided to try the eBook services offered by the public library. As a member I can borrow ebooks for free. They are on my device for a couple of weeks and I can borrow up to eight at a time. The apps were easy to download and use.
  • I finished the ebook in two days (started on Wednesday, finished on Thursday).
  • I had my first feijoas of the season – feijoas are my favourite winter fruit!
  • Thursday was a nice, chilled day off from work. I spent the day reading, blogging, watching TV and I had a yummy mince and cheese pie for lunch. It also marked the start of my five day weekend.

What I’ve been listening to:

Lucy Hale – Road Between – As a big Pretty Little Liars fan I’m surprised it took me this long to listen to Aria, I mean Lucy’s, album. I remember when I first heard she was doing country it intrigued me. Her voice suits the style and a few songs are catchy but I won’t be re-playing this album anytime soon.

What I’ve been watching:

Crooked House – I am still on my Agatha Christie kick. This film is based on one of her novels but it doesn’t feature Poirot or Miss Marple, it is a murder mystery in it’s own right. Overall I liked the film, it was a little slow in parts and the killer wasn’t too difficult to guess but it still made for a good story. The young male detective played by Max Irons was easy on the eye too!

Redhead Rambles #1

Hello everyone and welcome to the first post of my new series ‘Redhead Rambles’. The series will do what it says on the tin, it will be a redhead (me) who rambles about her week. Ramble means I will be sharing what I’ve been up to that week, how I’ve been feeling and what I’ve been listening to or watching. Occasionally I will share favourite blog posts from fellow bloggers and articles I’ve found useful or interesting.

  • Last week I had a few headaches and felt a little nauseous and I wonder if it was a result of the extra sugar and chocolate I’d been eating over Christmas. I have felt better this week.
  • I watched a film with my boyfriend on New Year’s Eve called Our Kind of Traitor and it was excellent! A couple find themselves lured into a Russian oligarch’s plans to defect. They are positioned between the Russian Mafia and the British Secret Service, neither of whom they can trust. It’s not the usual type of film I go for but it was really interesting and one I’d watch again.
  • I welcomed 2018 in by watching fireworks. Did you do anything to celebrate?
  • The Royal Variety Performance for 2017 left me disappointed. I don’t find Miranda Hart funny and the lineup wasn’t as good as other years.
  • On New Year’s Day I stumbled across a post on The Anna Edit about her Bullet Journal and planning tips. I’d watched Lily Pebbles’ video about her Bullet Journal a few weeks earlier and thought the concept seemed fun. I have a planner where I write appointments and things I’ve got to do but it’s not a place where I can keep organised lists and have structure without being confined to a weekly layout.
  • On Tuesday I went out and purchased my own Bullet Journal! I spent most of the afternoon researching layouts, watching YouTube videos and journalling. I’m thinking of doing a blog post about my Bullet Journal in the coming weeks so you can see what I’m using it for and the journal and stationery I’ll be using. Most of this week has been spent obsessing over my Bullet Journal to be honest.
  • Wednesday was my first day back at work for 2018 and it was SUPER BUSY! It was the library’s equivalent of Boxing Day sales.
  • The Christmas tree came down.
  • I got my fringe cut. I can’t wait to get a proper haircut but I have to wait for the shortest layer to grow. I want to go back to my hair being all the same length, I’m over layers.
  • The weather has been rainy and dull this week which I really enjoy. Everything feels cosier.

What I’ve been listening to:

Steps – Tears On the Dancefloor – My favourite album of 2017 and my favourite band. It seemed only right to play it on New Year’s Day.

The Wanted – Word of Mouth – I don’t listen to as many boybands as girlbands but I felt like playing this album this week. It has some great pop tracks and uptempo songs.

ABBA – Gold – I was introduced to ABBA as a child by my mum and I have loved them ever since. This album is a classic and every so often I’m in the mood to listen to it.

November Favourites 2016

november-favourites-2016

November seems to have been calmer than the past few months. I think that’s down to me taking a step back from blogging and having a break to enjoy life and catch up on a few things I’ve been meaning to do for a while. I explained the reason for the break in this month’s Hey, It’s Okay…, I’ve recently entered into a relationship and I want that to be the main focus. I want us to be able to spend time together without distractions (not that blogging is a distraction but it can be time consuming). Overall, I am very happy and I still try and get on here as much as possible to comment and read all of your posts!

Onto this month’s favourites:

1. Melbourne Cup – The Melbourne Cup is a famous Australian horse race run every year on the first Tuesday in November. Mum and I have a tradition where we each pick three horses and have a little competition to see how they do. We don’t bet any money but it’s a bit of fun and I really look forward to picking my horses and seeing who does better with their picks – neither of us did well this year though.

2. The Body Shop White Musk Body Lotion – I purchased this body lotion back in July but I’ve only properly been using it daily for the past month or so. I love using The Body Shop’s body lotions as a daily moisturiser and I concentrate mostly on my arms and chest. I don’t use this on my legs as that skin is really sensitive and I have a huge tub of cream especially for that. I love that the scent lingers on my skin throughout the day and I really like the scent of the White Musk lotion later in the day as opposed to when it is first applied, it still smells good but the scent gets better as time goes on. The Shea Body Whip is one of my absolute favourite products from The Body Shop but one negative about it is the pump as opposed to the squeeze bottle on this body lotion. After this is finished I’d quite like to try the Black Musk or Cocoa Butter scents.

3. Revlon Highlighting Palette – Rose Glow – I received this highlighting palette as part of a Revlon gift set from my old work colleagues. I reviewed the gift set a few months ago and my opinion of this product has changed slightly. I still wouldn’t go out and pay the $32.99 (NZD) this retails for but I have used it a handful of times this past month. This gives a subtle highlighted effect which is nice for daily wear and doesn’t make you look too made up. I like to swirl my Real Techniques Blush brush into all the colours and sweep the product over my cheekbones.

4. Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 Camera – Pink – At the weekend I went out and bought one of these polaroid cameras for myself. I bought the beautiful pastel pink as pink is my favourite colour along with a 50 pack of film. The film is expensive but I want to make each shot count and I know it should last me a decent amount of time. I haven’t turned the camera on or used it yet but I’ve taken everything out of the box and had a look and I’m so excited to start snapping away!

NB: For any NZ bloggers/readers, Instax are running a promotion until the 17th January 2017 where if you buy one of their cameras you can redeem a gift pack (including a scrapbook, stickers, photo corners, washi tape and a photo board) worth $45. Visit their website enter your details and a few details about your purchase and they’ll send it out to you!

5. Gone Girl – I watched Gone Girl a couple of weeks ago after hearing so much about it and I can honestly say it is the best film I have seen in a long time! It is based on a book by Gillian Flynn – I haven’t read it – and it lives up to the hype. I’m not going to spoil it for those who haven’t seen it but I do recommend you watch it if thrillers are your thing or you’ve been meaning to watch it. I haven’t seen many movies with Ben Affleck but there’s something about him in this which is really likeable and you can’t help not liking his character. There are talks of a potential sequel which would be very interesting and something I’d watch for sure!

November’s Spotify Playlist:

This playlist is a real mix. There’s R&B, country and of course my usual dose of pop. I say this a lot but this playlist is genuinely one of my favourites that I’ve made.
