GUEST POST: Festive Makeup

guest-post-festive-makeupHello everyone! How’s your week been? Today’s post is just a quick one to let you know I have written a guest post for one of my closest blogging friends, Claire. Claire is doing Blogmas over on her blog and she kindly asked if I would be interested writing a post for one of the days.

(I apologise for not getting this post up sooner but I had a rare weekend off from work and spent the weekend with my boyfriend).

My post, Festive Makeup went up on Sunday (December 11th). As you know, beauty is one of my favourite topics to talk about and I came up with a few different makeup combinations to wear during the Christmas season. I haven’t included specific lip or eye products, it’s more about the colour combinations meaning you can adapt each look to suit you, whatever your budget!

The colour combinations are as follows:

  • Red lips and smokey eyes
  • Plum lips and gold eyes
  • Nude lips and green eyes
  • Purple lips and silver eyes

CLICK HERE to read my post in full over on Claire’s blog!

It was great fun writing this post and be sure to let Claire and I know which look you’re going for this Christmas! Personally, I’m opting for plum/berry lips and a gold, sparkly eye!

Christmas Wish List 2016

christmas-wishlist-2016With Christmas right around the corner it’s time to start thinking about gifts (or wrapping them if you’re organised). When it comes to receiving gifts I like surprises and I truly believe it is the thought that counts! I love to give gifts and love the feeling you get when you find something perfect for the person you’re buying for. I am not normally one to give or drop hints about the gifts I’d like but here’s what’s at the top of my list this year!

christmas-wishlist

1. Canon EOS 700D

This DSLR camera has been on my radar for the past six months. Back in August when I did the Behind the Scenes Tag I mentioned I was thinking of buying a proper DSLR and this was the one I was leaning towards. I do want to improve my photography and have a nice camera to capture beautiful images with but part of me thinks, do I really need it? I don’t expect anyone would be generous enough to buy me this but I’d love to think I’m brave enough to take the plunge and splurge on it one day. I’m of the belief that photos = memories but I don’t want to part with several hundred dollars on a piece of equipment unless I’m sure it’s a worthy investment.

2. Britney Spears Private Show Perfume

I don’t claim to be the biggest Britney fan but I do listen to her music and I’ve grown up with her. She’s a popstar that has been around ever since I was a child and her songs are iconic. I’ve tried two of Britney’s perfumes in the past (one I’ve had for years) and I enjoy wearing her scents. Whenever a new scent of Britney’s comes out I always make sure I pop in store and give it a try. I’ve already done this with Private Show and it smells absolutely amazing! The scent is inspired by Britney’s favourites, including whipped crème coffee, clementine, juicy nectarine, dulche de leche, orange flower, jasmine sambac, luminous amber, and sensual musks.

3. IKEA MALM Drawers

I’m cheating a little as I ordered a set of 2 drawers a couple of weekends ago so I know I’m definitely getting them. I’ve been on the hunt for a new bedside table for ages and this is the only thing that has come close to fitting my criteria; I wanted something with a drawer and a gloss white finish. Currently, I just have a table with a glass top which has a clock sitting on it. I’m also looking forward to putting this together, I strangely enjoy putting furniture together and feel a sense of achievement once it’s done.

4. Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 – Pink

Two cameras in one post – what?! These Polaroid cameras have become pretty popular over the past couple of years and it’s funny how trends come back around. The colours of these cameras are so bright and fun (of course I want the pink one – pink is my favourite colour) and the photos from these types of cameras look candid which gives them a retro feel. You’ve got to be careful with each shot you take, you can’t go back and edit if the lighting isn’t quite right or something’s out of focus – the imperfections become the beauty. I love the idea of being able to write a small caption on each photo and keeping these photos in a box or putting them on a pinboard.

Edit: I purchased this camera for myself and I can’t wait to start snapping!

5. Mermaid Blanket

I’ve cheated again, I’ve ordered one of these blankets online and it should be here in the next couple of weeks. I first saw these in either one of Zoella or Pointless Blog’s videos and I’ve been obsessed ever since! You can move your legs with the blanket instead of moving your legs and having to readjust the blanket, so convenient. I chose a beautiful purple and I’m looking forward to curling up on the couch with this!

6. External Hard Drive

This kind of ties in with the Canon 700D camera. I figured if I’m going to invest in a proper camera, I want to have somewhere to store all my images, videos etc. One of these would also be handy for storing my music and backing up my iTunes library because I’ve had the whole thing delete on me and have to be re-imported before, not fun.

What’s on your Christmas list this year?

December Favourites

December FavouritesI can’t believe this is my last monthly favourites for 2015 and in a few days it will be 2016! I have some really exciting things to share with you this month including a few new discoveries and a couple of beauty products I’ve had for a while but really taken advantage of in December. I will also be doing a Yearly Favourites post which goes up tomorrow and compiles all the best products and highlights from 2015.

1. Philips Moisture Protect Hair Straightener – If you saw yesterday’s post, What I Got For Christmas, you’ll know I purchased this hair straightener earlier in the month as a present to myself. I absolutely love the rose gold and white and how quick and easy this straightens my hair. I got a really good deal on this straightener; originally it was $239.99 and the day I got it I paid $109.99.

2. Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in 107 – This is about the third post this lipstick has featured in this month so I will keep things brief. I wanted to include this lipstick for the simple fact I used it in my Christmas Makeup Menu.

3. Dainty Doll Powder Blush in 001 Hippy Shake – I have had this blush for over a year now and I still haven’t gotten over how beautiful it is. Hippy Shake is a pale lilac colour designed for very fair skin tones. I have also read about bloggers with darker skin tones who have used this shade as a highlighter. When applied this blush gives a nice, subtle glow to my skin and it’s hard to go overboard with this colour. The formula is also amazing, it’s not too powdery and is so easy to apply whether you’re using your fingers or a brush.

4. Real Techniques Blush Brush – The blush brush is one of four Real Techniques brushes I purchased last month and mentioned in my HUGE Me Spree. After using all of the brushes for the past few weeks, I think this is my favourite. The bristles are especially soft and despite the size of the head I like how this applies product. I have been using it with the Dainty Doll blush mentioned above and it is a winning combination!

5. The Body Shop Shea Hand Cream – The Body Shop’s Almond Hand & Nail cream featured in my October Favourites but I love this shea one even more! The packaging feels slightly more robust and less likely to split or break. I like how quickly this hand cream soaks in too. I’ve been applying this at night before bed and my hands feel nice and soft when I wake up in the morning.

6. Marcus Butler – Over the past 6-8 months I have been getting into different vloggers on YouTube. Lily Pebbles is my absolute favourite but this month I discovered Marcus Butler. I saw Marcus in one of Jim Chapman’s videos and instantly started browsing through his channel. I really like the content Marcus uploads, there’s funny videos, challenges, collabs and daily vlogs. His videos are entertaining and so easy to watch. Click here to be taken to Marcus’ YouTube Channel.

December Spotify Playlist – #KylieChristmas

There haven’t been any new tracks I’ve had on repeat in December so I’ve decided to share the #KylieChristmas playlist I made for a competition. I’m not a huge fan of Christmas music but I really enjoyed getting into the Christmas spirit with this playlist. If you’re still feeling festive, take a listen!

That’s all for this month, be sure to let me know what you’ve been loving!

Christmas Day Makeup Menu

Christmas Day Makeup MenuHey everyone! It feels a little weird doing a beauty post on a Wednesday but this has been one I’ve been excited to share with you for a couple of weeks. Whether you’re someone who has made last minute Christmas plans or you’re unsure how to do your makeup for the big day, sit back, relax and read on to see what I’ll be wearing come December 25th.

For my Christmas makeup I had two things in mind: sparkle and a red lip. I kept everything traditional and relatively simple. I believe this look would also suit a range of outfits from dressy to casual.

Base:

Christmas Makeup - BaseIf you’ve been a reader of my blog for a while now, you’ll know all about my base products for my face. I use these three every time I wear makeup and I’m always impressed.

1) Simple Kind To Skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser – This moisturiser gives such a lovely base for the foundation to adhere to and keeps my skin nice and soft throughout the day. I didn’t use a primer for this look but this moisturiser works well with or without one.

2) Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation – If it’s more of a light coverage you’re after this foundation mixes really well with moisturiser and gives you that tinted moisturiser look and feel. On this occasion I applied the two separately as I wanted slightly more coverage. Side note: I recently discovered Rimmel have re-branded their Match Perfection foundation (I have the old formula). I use the shade 081 Fair Ivory and I hope that’s still part of the range otherwise I’ll have to try 010 Light Porcelain or find a completely new foundation.

3) Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in ’15 Fair’ – I don’t use the wand to apply this concealer, I dab the product onto my finger and pat it into my skin. Normally I just apply it to my chin, the sides of my nose and the corners of my eyes to eliminate redness.

Eyes:

Christmas Makeup - Eyes

1) Maybelline ‘The Nudes’ Palette – I have used this eyeshadow palette so much since I purchased it and it is one of my favourite purchases of the year! I used the palest, whitest shade in the palette as a base all over the lid then applied the gold shade over top of that.

Christmas Eye Makeup

2) Rimmel Super Curler Mascara – I recently mentioned purchasing this mascara in my HUGE Me Spree post. The mascara wand is smaller than what I’m used to using with Rimmel’s ScandalEyes Lycra Flex and shaped to mimic the natural curl of eyelashes. The size of the wand doesn’t detract from the mascara by any means and I do find this mascara does a similar job to the Lycra Flex; it adds a nice voluminous, fluttery look to my lashes.

Lips:

Christmas Makeup - Lips

1) Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Finish Lipstick in 107 – I have come to the conclusion I don’t wear this lipstick enough. It featured in my Winter Essentials due it’s dark, berry tones which look especially gorgeous in Autumn/Winter. This shade screamed FESTIVE to me so it was the obvious choice when it came to choosing a lip colour for my Christmas look.

Christmas MakeupI hope you enjoyed this post and seeing what makeup I’ll be wearing on Friday! Let me know what you think of my Christmas look and if this post has inspired you at all. Also, don’t forget to tell me what makeup you’ll be rocking!

Christmas Nails

Christmas NailsHi everyone! We are officially 4 days away from Christmas!!! This week I’m kicking things off with a post about my Christmas nails and which nail polishes I used for them. Also, make sure you check back on Wednesday where I’ll be showing you my Christmas makeup look. I decided on my nails and makeup about a month ago and they tie in beautifully with each other. The looks are both simple to achieve whilst still being Christmassy and are sure to add a bit of glitz to your day!

Christmas Nails - PolishesFor my Christmas nails I wanted to keep the colours traditional and I came up with the idea of painting them red and using silver for an accent nail. (I selected my ring finger as the accent nail). The two polishes I used are Revlon Red by Revlon and It’s Frosty Outside by OPI. Revlon Red is a classic bright red which I believe everyone should have in their collection and It’s Frosty Outside is a silver liquid sand from Mariah Carey’s Holiday collection. It’s Frosty Outside has hexagonal glitter and micro-glitter giving it more texture than a straight silver polish.

I used It’s Frosty Outside on it’s own for my Christmas nails last year and I absolutely love this polish for all occasions. The red and silver look stunning together and I’m really pleased with how my nails turned out.

Christmas Nails 2015

Each polish only required two coats and I then applied a top coat over Revlon Red to make it even more shiny and less likely to chip before the big day.

Let me know what you think of the colour combination I came up with and how you’ll be doing your nails.

P.S. Don’t forget to check back on Wednesday to see my Christmas Day makeup menu!

Holly Jolly Holiday Tag

Holly Jolly Holiday TagHappy Monday lovelies! Today’s the day things start getting festive on Chanelle Hayley. I’ve seen a few bloggers attempt this tag over the past week and after reading Katie from Plus+ Beauty‘s answers I knew I wanted in on the action! Katie has recently returned to the blogging scene after some time away so make sure you pop over to her blog and give her some love and spread the Christmas cheer!

1. Do you start your Christmas shopping on Black Friday or wait until last minute?

Black Friday is quite a recent thing in New Zealand. I hate leaving things until the last minute so I always try to make sure I finish Christmas shopping as early as I can. If I’m out in August or September and see something I think someone will like then, I’ll probably pick it up.

2. If you could be in any Christmas movie what would it be?

Love Actually. Being set in London and the story line with all the different couples would be a dream!

3. Which do you like better: Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?

I think Christmas Eve is more exciting as there’s more hype knowing the next day it’s Christmas. Once you open presents and eat, the excitement is pretty much over for another year.

4. When does your family put up their Christmas tree and who decorates it?

It changes every year, I only put my Christmas tree up yesterday 😛 The past few years I’ve made it a regular thing to put it up and I’ve really enjoyed decorating it and making it look pretty.

5. White lights or coloured lights?

Both – it all depends on your tree decor. If you want a classic look with silver and gold baubles, white lights or if you like your tree to be sparkly and full of colour, go for coloured lights.

6. Are you guilty of peeking at your presents or do you like to be surprised?

No, never! I like to be surprised. Sometimes I will get asked if there’s anything in particular I’d like so I may know what I’m getting before Christmas day.

7. Would you rather live in a gingerbread house or Santa’s workshop?

Santa’s workshop. The gingerbread house would be tempting to eat and make you feel constantly hungry. In Santa’s workshop you’d get to play with all the toys and help the elves, maybe even wear those adorable elf shoes with bells on the toes.

8. Tell us your Christmas Eve traditions.

When my brother and I were kids we’d write our names on pieces of paper and stick them at opposite ends of the couch so Santa knew where to put our presents. We’d also leave a drink and some biscuits out for Santa.

9. If you could be under the mistletoe with anyone, who would it be?

I could say my celebrity crush but the age gap would be a little weird. I’ll say my Mr. Right who I’ve yet to meet ❤

10. What tops your tree?

Currently nothing. We used to have a sparkly, golden star but it’s either lost or packed away.

I had SO much fun answering these questions and doing this tag, I’m sure you will too! Leave a link to your post if you’ve done this tag already or if you decide to do this tag, I’d love to read your answers!

Christmas Gifts 2014

Hey everyone,

I know Christmas is well and truly over but I thought I’d share the gifts I received with you. Originally, I was in two minds about doing this post but decided to go ahead with it in the end. All of the gifts relate to things I post about anyway (beauty, makeup, etc.) so enjoy having a peek at what I got!

Christmas Gifts1. Snowflake Pendant Necklace – The first present I got from my lovely mummy (you can really tell I’m not a fan of warm weather with my choice of pendant)

2. Pilot FriXion Pens in Violet and Black – These are from my brother. He also got me a set of Filofax monthly inserts but they are in my planner, hence them not being in the picture

3. 3 piece Earring Set – One pair of plain silver studs, clear studs and textured silver studs

4. 3 piece Midi Ring Set – 2 plain gold bands and 1 gold band with clear stones around the centre

5. Revlon Fire & Ice Gift Set – Contains: Fire & Ice Eau de Cologne Spray 50ml, Fire & Ice Super Lustrous Lipstick, Nail Enamel – Revlon Red and Fire & Ice Eau de Cologne Roll On 10ml

Skater Scuba Skirt6. Panelled Skater Scuba Skirt – My own photos didn’t turn out very well so I found this image online. This skirt also has the most gorgeous rose gold zip

Opening these beauties on Christmas Day was a real treat. I haven’t worn the skirt, the nail polish or the earrings yet but I’ve tried everything else. I’m totally and completely in love with the Fire & Ice lipstick that it may end up becoming my favourite and overtake Fuschia Surprise by BYS. (Notice how I said may).

What was your favourite Christmas gift that you received?

Week In Review: December 22 – December 28, 2014

Hey everyone!

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and got everything you wished for. Today’s post is a little different from my normal Week In Review posts and will focus mainly on Christmas-related happenings of the past week.

Christmas nails   Fairy lights

On Monday I gave my nails a Christmas manicure using It’s Frosty Outside from one of the Mariah Carey Liquid Sand Mini Holiday sets. I talked about this set of polishes in my Christmas Wish List post and decided to purchase one for myself a couple of weeks ago. My initial thoughts on this polish are it is absolutely gorgeous, almost a week later and no chips. I don’t find the liquid sand texture to be rough and the roughness fades away after a few days anyway.

Two weeks ago Christmas lights were purchased for the tree and I thought what better time to post a picture of the lights on the tree than Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve also marked one month until my birthday on January 24th 😉

Christmas Day selfie

Christmas Day selfie; wearing my new lipstick!

The day itself was lovely! It was quite a small, close-knit affair but the food and company made the day. My mum is an amazing cook, and the roast was delicious. My highlights from lunch included: crackling on the roast pork, grape juice, and pavlova. I’m also extremely thankful the weather and humidity weren’t too bad. I was grateful to get some beautiful presents and I’m pleased my mum and brother liked theirs.

This weekend I’ve enjoyed getting my Filofax organised and set up ready for 2015. I admit, I’m a total geek when it comes to stationery and using my planner!

Be sure to leave a comment and let me know how your Christmas went 🙂

Chanelle x

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to my fellow bloggers!

Wishing you all a truly magical day and hope you get spoilt rotten by your nearest and dearest (and Santa of course!)

I hope whoever you spend the day with makes you feel no less than special and no one has to spend the day alone.

All my love,
Chanelle xxx
