Battle of the Red Lipsticks

It’s no secret that red lipstick isn’t my favourite to wear. Certain shades age me and make my skin look paler than it really is. Over the past week or so I have been testing the red lipsticks in my collection to work out which shades I enjoy. I wore the same base makeup and eyeshadow to keep the test fair and I discovered I definitely need to wear bronzer and blush when I wear red lipstick which I can get away without wearing with other lipstick colours. Currently I have seven red lipsticks. Raspberry reds and berry shades are not included but perhaps that’s a post for me to consider in the new year.

1. Revlon – Fire & Ice

Fire & Ice was the first red lipstick I got. This is one of Revlon’s iconic shades and it is a little unusual because it is a neutral red that is warm and cool at the same time. Fire & Ice is such a beautiful colour and depending on the makeup you pair it with can look more tomato red or more pink red. The formula is a creme and it’s very comfortable on the lips and easy to apply. You don’t need a lip liner with this shade and the lasting power is good despite the formula not being matte. It won’t end up on your teeth or fade drastically throughout the day. I don’t pull this shade out all the time but I enjoy it when I do.

2. MAC – Ruby Woo

Ruby Woo is one of the most coveted shades of red lipstick. Basically the hype is real and worth it if you’re looking for one great red for your collection. This shade suits just about anybody and is kind of like an old hollywood, glam red. Roby Woo looks like red velvet on the lips and I think if I could have only keep one red it would be this one! The lasting power is excellent and the formula is not drying if you apply balm underneath first.

3. Revlon – Wild Watermelon

The swatch makes this shade look more pink than red because of the sheer formula but on the lips Wild Watermelon definitely leans red. I love this colour during the warmer months and the glossy, shiny formula makes lips look soft and juicy. If you suffer with dry lips this formula is lovely too. If you’re looking for more wearable reds or more of a stain you will like this one. Revlon don’t make lip butters anymore but they are still out there if you search. As this is a lighter red it will wear away gracefully and is easy to re-apply.

4. Bourjois – Cherry My Cherie

I picked up this lipstick for about $8 last year but I just don’t reach for it very often. As the name suggests this is a beautiful cherry red and the formula is really soft and comfortable to wear. When I swatched the lipsticks Cherry My Cherie looks very similar to Ruby Woo by MAC. I would say if you’re looking for a cheaper version of Ruby Woo or you don’t like the Retro Matte formula this is a good alternative. I will be saying goodbye to this lipstick purely because I don’t need this and Ruby Woo. Ruby Woo has less transfer throughout the day due to its formula and I don’t mind applying balm underneath to get the shade to glide on.

5. xoBeauty – Kairos

Kairos is a product I featured in the Shopping My Stash post in July and I have been going back and forth about whether to keep it or not ever since. Before I started writing this post I tried the lipstick on and was convinced I wasn’t going to keep it. Whilst I can appreciate the pretty muted coral-red tones I didn’t love how it looked and think it would look better on light-medium skintones as opposed to my fair skin. As I began writing this post I started second guessing myself and now I want to wear the shade again with a full face of makeup and play up the pink tones with blush and highlighter to see if that changes my opinion. The colour is gorgeous and the matte formula is soft and comfortable so I don’t have an issue with the product but I’m not sure it’s the most flattering shade on me. I’ll keep you posted about this one!

6. YSL – Rouge Pur Couture #1

I got this mini as part of a YSL set and the best way I can think to describe the shade is like a cross between Fire & Ice and Ruby Woo. The formula is reminiscent of Fire & Ice and doesn’t slip and slide but the colour is a touch darker and more closer in tone Ruby Woo. I like the mini size and smaller bullet as it makes mistakes less likely during application and the bullet is angled to fit the shape of the lips. The plastic packaging feels cheap but I can live with that as the product inside is good.

7. xoBeauty – Impavid

This is the newest red in my collection, I have only had it for a little over week but I am a fan already. I absolutely adore the xoBeauty liquid lipstick formula and I thought it would be interesting to try as reds are notoriously difficult to apply. Impavid is a deep, rich, cool toned red that makes your teeth look white and is one of the darker reds in this bunch. I’m looking forward to wearing this one more and possibly being able to retire a few of my other reds if this proves to be my perfect red.

Swatches:

Left to right: Fire & Ice, Ruby Woo, Wild Watermelon, Cherry My Cherie, Kairos, Rouge Pur Couture #1 and Impavid.

What’s your favourite red lipstick? How many do you own?

Out of the seven reds I’m keeping five, passing one on and undecided about the other.

Ride Or Die Makeup Tag

If you only had one of each makeup item to use, what would you pick? I can’t imagine how hard this tag would be if I had drawers of makeup and had to narrow down my favourite products. I am basing this post on the categories Jaclyn Hill mentions in her Ride Or Die YouTube video and adding in/taking out options where appropriate. This is the holiest of holy grails!

Primer
Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Primer

This primer is nourishing and hydrating and makes the products on top look and apply better. I have the sample 20ml size and it has lasted me four or so months now. I definitely see myself repurchasing this in the future. This does have a coconut scent and whilst I’m not a coconut fan, the scent fades quickly after application so I’m happy.

Foundation
Max Factor Lasting Performance Foundation in 100 Fair

Max Factor bases really impress me, they look nice on the skin, they cater for my skin tone and they have good coverage. I previously used this foundation in 101 Ivory Beige but Fair is a better match. This has an almost satin finish, not completely dewy or matte which I like. Despite having dry skin I don’t like overly glowy makeup.

Concealer
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer  – 1 Fair

The coverage and consistency of this concealer is really nice. Dry skinned gals will most likely be fans of this as it’s creamy and doesn’t cling and always makes my base look more flawless. I will continue to repurchase.

Face Powder
Rimmel Match Perfection Translucent Powder

I don’t use setting powder everyday but I do tend to reach for it in summer. To be fair this is the only face powder I’ve ever tried but I do like it and it’s not too powdery that it accentuates lines or dry skin. The tiniest bit goes a long way.

Blush
NARS Orgasm

The peachy-pink tone flatters so many people and is almost like a universal shade. While I don’t wear blush everyday this is the one I would be sad to be without.

Bronzer
The Body Shop Honey Bronzer in 01 Light Matte

This is kind of cheating as it’s the only bronzer I’ve properly tried and stuck with but when a product is this good you’re not going to stray. The Body Shop bronzer comes in a few shades and caters for different skin tones. This bronzer never looks harsh or orange or muddy, you might not think it’s there but it’s a product I wouldn’t skip applying in my everyday makeup routine now.

Highlight
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle

This is one of those cult beauty products and for good reason, it is gorgeous! This is quite a neutral tone but the product can be built up if desired. This is the most versatile of my highlighters and gives the cheeks a lovely glow.

Mascara
Rimmel Scandaleyes Lycra Flex 003 Extreme Black

I have used up a few tubes of this mascara now and whenever I try something different this is always what I compare other mascaras against. This gives length and volume and the Extreme Black shade does what it says on the tin but sadly this shade has been discontinued. I have tried the regular Black version and it is nowhere near as good.

Lipstick
BYS Fuchsia Surprise

Just about everyone who knows me knows bright pink lipstick is my favourite! There’s something about hot pink/fuchsia that I love and whenever I’m in doubt about what colour to wear I always go back to it. I have a few different fuchsia shades in my collection but I picked this one as I finished a one of these completely and the pigmentation and formula for the price point is amazing!

Liquid Lipstick
Frambourjoise by Bourjois

My favourite red! Frambourjoise is a raspberry red with a hint of pink and the formula is to die for – it’s unbelievably comfortable and long wearing – I recently wore this shade for 14 hours. I reapplied during that time but the first layer didn’t flake or get crusty under the second and make reapplication difficult.

Lipgloss
Afternoon Tea by Tanya Burr

Not only does this lipgloss have the cutest name but it is the most beautiful natural light pink colour. Often I wear this if I don’t know what else to wear and want something easy. I love this gloss with a gold eyeshadow and Becca’s Opal highlighter for a glowing, radiant look.

Eyeshadow Palette
Shaaanxo The Remix Palette

This palette really has it all and was one of my favourite beauty discoveries of 2018! There’s a mix of colourful shades and neutrals as well as shimmers and mattes. The formula applies and blends like a dream and this is what I tend to reach for almost each time I do my makeup.

Single Eyeshadow
MAC Tan Pigment

When I’m not using my Shaaanxo palette I like to go for a simple look that doesn’t require too much fuss. Tan is neutral enough that it could be worn everyday but it still has that sparkle and glitz I love.

Setting Spray
MAC Prep + Prime Fix+

I haven’t had this setting spray for long but I am so happy I picked it up. The setting spray has a nice scent and feels very refreshing on the skin. The spray nozzle doesn’t spray too much product at once and two or three sprays is enough. Some sprays and face mists feel very wet and spray a lot of product but this doesn’t.

Perfume
Viva la Juicy by Juicy Couture

I can’t remember how I first heard about this scent but I would always spray it on myself in shops when I was a teenager and it’s a scent I still love and don’t tire of. I have finished up a 100ml bottle in the past and I repurchased another one. I tend to save this perfume for special occasions and this scent reminds me of the latter half of 2016 which was a really happy time for me. This perfume lasts all day, I can still smell it on my clothes and skin the next day and it’s sweet and feminine.

Current Everyday Makeup Bag

In May 2017 I wrote *THIS POST* showcasing the products in my everyday makeup bag. This bag sits on top of my drawers and basically houses the products I use most and the products I tend to reach for on a day to day basis. Since the post a year ago I have added products in and taken others out and I wanted to share the updated version!

Products marked with (N) are new to the bag and products marked with (R) remained in the bag from last time.

Starting with the biggest category: face.

I don’t keep any foundations in the bag but the one I am using most frequently to try and get it gone is Rimmel’s Match Perfection in 010 Light Porcelain.

1. MAC StudioFinish Concealer in NW10 – (N)

This concealer has temporarily taken the place of Collection’s Lasting Perfection in my everyday makeup bag. I have had this concealer for almost a year and have made a significant dent in it. It is one of the 18 products I am trying to finish in 2018 hence why I have swapped the Collection concealer out. The concealer is a good match for my skin tone and the coverage is nice as well. The pot is small but don’t let that deceive you.

2. The Body Shop Honey Bronzer in 01 Light Matte – (N)

I have spoken numerous times about my love for this bronzer. It is the perfect colour for me and it’s incredibly difficult to apply too much of this shade. This bronzer adds such a lovely warmth to the face and sits nicely on top all of my foundations. It pairs particularly well with Rimmel’s Match Perfection because I feel that foundation is too pale for me in summer without bronzer but the bronzer still works when applied with a lighter hand in winter – it’s a great year round product.

3. theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer – (N)

I only purchased this highlighter towards the end of 2017 so it couldn’t possibly have featured in the last post! I understand the hype with this and even though it’s not my most worn highlighter, it is versatile and will go with pretty much any look. It also doubles as an eyeshadow base. I put this in the bag because it’s one of those products that will work when you’re not sure what to go for and I want to use it more.

4. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal – (R)

This highlighter is so beautiful and the smallest amount goes a long way. This is the warmest and most golden of my highlighters but when I am wearing gold eyeshadow I always reach for this highlighter to bring the look together. The shimmer isn’t powdery or chunky on the cheeks and this looks beautiful applied with a brush or fingers.

5. Dainty Doll Blushes in Billion Dollar Babies and You Are My Sunshine – (R)

I decluttered some makeup at the beginning of 2018 and halved my blush collection, I went from four blushes to two! I use these blushes all the time and I honestly believe they are the only two shades I need. Billion Dollar Babies is a nude, cream blush with a hint of mauve-pink and it is so good because it goes with everything. You Are My Sunshine is a powder blush and is my dupe for Orgasm by NARS – it’s like a blush and highlighter all in one.

Eyes:

6. Rimmel Professional Brow Pencil in 002 Hazel – (R)

This brow pencil is another well loved and well used product. It is all I have used to fill in my brows for two years and I love how simple and natural it makes them look.

7. Maybelline ‘The Nudes’ Palette – (R)

I don’t own a lot of eyeshadow palettes and I’m still a huge fan of this one. About a month ago I went through the stage of using it almost every time I wore eye makeup and the colours and tones work so well. It’s a great travel palette, it’s sturdy, it contains mattes and shimmers and you can create simple, everyday looks or more glam, nighttime looks.

8. Max Factor Excess Shimmer – Copper – (R)

My favourite shimmery eye product is this one! It lasts all day without creasing and it’s brightening and glittery without being over the top. One of my favourite ways to use this is with taupes or browns from ‘The Nudes’ underneath and this applied over top.

9. L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara – (N)

In the last post I didn’t mention a mascara because I was straying and trying mascaras other than my favourite from Rimmel. I had been waiting for this launch from L’Oreal for a while and in March this year I finally purchased a tube. The reviews I had read were really positive and I was not disappointed after trying it myself. I don’t want to say too much as I have a review post coming soon and I’ll save my other thoughts for that.

Lips:

10. BYS – Fuschia Surprise – (R)

One of my holy grail lip products, hands down! This is my most worn lipstick of life and I am so close to finishing it – I have the tiniest little stub left. I have another tube as backup but I’m contemplating putting one of my other fuschia lip products like MAC’s Show Orchid or Revlon’s Lollipop in the bag once it’s finished.

11. Bourjois – Frambourjoise – (R)

If you don’t like the formula of liquid lipsticks but you like the precision of a doe foot applicator and lasting pigmentation you need to try Bourjois’ velvet lipsticks. The formula is like a mousse and not drying as it wears throughout the day. Frambourjoise is a beautiful raspberry red and if bright reds scare you or you want more of an everyday red go for one like this with a hint of pink to tone down the boldness.

12. Tanya Burr – Afternoon Tea – (R)

There’s something about this gloss, the colour doesn’t look that special in the tube but once it is on the lips it gives them such a beautiful, natural look. Afternoon Tea is a light pink but if you’re not a fan of pink I think you’d still like this. The gloss has a lovely scent, feels hydrating, isn’t too sticky and has the cutest name! I love this for simple makeup looks.

Discount Beauty Haul

The Brand Outlet sell fragrances and cosmetics and regularly travel around New Zealand with their sales. Products are 100% genuine and prices can be up to 70% less what you’d pay elsewhere. The company also has a website so you can order from the comfort of your own home anytime you like. The best part about online shopping is you don’t have to deal with crowds!

I placed my order on Saturday 26 May, the order was shipped on Monday and arrived on Tuesday 29 May. Everything was packaged well and I’m super impressed with the speedy service.

On with the haul:

1. OPI – Two-Timing the Zones

You’d think as pink is my favourite colour I must have lots of pink polishes but I actually don’t! Two-Timing the Zones is from OPI’s 2017 Fiji collection and is a pink creme polish. The polish is very Barbie pink, not fluro or hot pink and it’s the kind of pink that is warm and cool at the same time. I can’t wait to wear it!

2. OPI – The I’s Have It

The I’s Have It was released by OPI in 2016 as part of their Alice In Wonderland collection. I don’t remember hearing about the collection but after a Google search I discovered one of my favourite bloggers Rachael reviewed this polish and sang it’s praises. The I’s Have It is a gorgeous light blue creme polish and the formula applies like a dream. I shared a picture on Instagram if you are interested to see what this looks like on.

3. Bourjois Rouge 12 HR Lipstick – Cherry My Cherie

I have fallen a little out of love with red lipstick lately. Ruby Woo by MAC will always be a classic, true red but I’ve been thinking something deeper with more cherry in it would be nice on me. Bourjois’ Frambourjoise is a beautiful raspberry-red and is one of the shades I would use if I could only wear five lip colours. Cherry My Cherie doesn’t disappoint quality wise either. I wore the lipstick on Wednesday and it barely budged all day (I know my lips hold pigment extremely well but still…) The formula is creamy without being slippy and comfortable to wear.

4. Max Factor Masterpiece Eye Shadow – Icicle Rose

Liquid eye shadows seem to be a trend right now and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try this beauty out for $6.00. The colour may be a little light on it’s own but it will be nice as a sparkly topper or inner corner highlight. I have a powder eyeshadow that is a similar colour so I will see how well this works in combination with that. The doe foot applicator isn’t too big or small and is the perfect size for my eyes. It picks up a good amount of product and the product spreads easily.

5. Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipstick – Mauve It Up

This lipstick is not pictured as I didn’t buy it for myself. One of my work mates mentioned she had been looking for this lipstick and couldn’t find it so when I saw it I instantly thought of her. I gifted it to her on Tuesday (before the photos were taken) and she loves it!

Swatches:

Top: Bourjois – Cherry My Cherie, Bottom: Max Factor – Icicle Rose.

If I Could Only Wear 5 Lip Colours

It’s no secret lips are my favourite part of any makeup routine and lip products take up the most space in my makeup collection. I love bold, bright colours and am not afraid to wear them! I was scrolling through a list of blog post ideas recently and this one immediately jumped out. It honestly wasn’t difficult to pick only five and I didn’t um and ah over any of these. Let me clarify, all of my choices are lipsticks, no lip balms or lip stains.

The lineup!

1. MAC – Show Orchid

Let’s get the semi-obvious fuchsia lipstick out of the way first! Fuchsia is my absolute favourite colour to wear, it works so well with my skin tone and hair colour and it isn’t a shade that ages me – it makes me feel youthful. The reason I labelled this semi-obvious is because my favourite fuchsia of all time is by a brand called BYS but I went with this great alternative from MAC because it’s a more well known brand and the packaging is more luxurious. MAC is easier to get a hold of so if BYS discontinued their fuchsia shade I’m covered. The formula of Show Orchid is also less slippy than the BYS alternative though both are comparable in terms of wear time.

2. Australis – Gangsta Rap

Gangsta Rap was one of my very first lipstick purchases a couple of years ago and it is still a shade I love to wear often. Again, this is a shade that makes me feel youthful and purple suits redheads. The formula of this lipstick is so comfortable to wear and the pigmentation and wear time are outstanding. I’d say the formula of this is similar to MAC’s satin lipsticks; creamy lipstick with a soft cushiony feel and buildable coverage.

3. MAC – Brave

I had to include a more neutral, everyday shade in this list and it’s another offering from MAC. I won Brave in a giveaway and it has become one of my favourite lipsticks in the short time I’ve had it. I say short because I haven’t had it as long as the other shades mentioned. You all know how Syrup from MAC is my jam and holds a special place in my heart because it was my first MAC lipstick. The reason I opted for Brave over Syrup is simply down to wear time. Brave is a satin finish whereas Syrup is a lustre meaning it is more sheer. Brave is Syrup’s slightly darker, more pigmented cousin.

4. Rimmel – Asia

I included this nude as well because every time I wear it I’m reminded how beautiful it is. This is more of a brown toned pink compared to Brave. Asia is similar to a few other MAC shades (Mehr, Twig and Faux) at a fraction of the cost. This lipstick has a lovely demi-matte finish and the wear time is decent too.  It’s one of those shades that fades discreetly and can be re-applied with ease.

5. Bourjois – Frambourjoise

I have fallen a little bit out of love with red lipstick lately but this shade I always come back to and can rely on to look good. Frambourjoise is more of a raspberry red and has pink undertones as well as red. The formula is like a mousse and not like a liquid lipstick. The mousse formula allows you to perfect your pout as it dries down slower and the formula doesn’t feel drying as it wears throughout the day.

Swatches:

Top To Bottom: Show Orchid, Gangsta Rap, Brave, Asia, Frambourjoise.

Did any of these choices surprise you? What lip products would you choose if you only had five?

Favourite Red Lipsticks

This post was suggested to me by Cat who blogs over at My Lip Addiction. As you can probably guess from the name of her blog lip products are her weakness, a woman after my own heart! I don’t know what it is about lipstick but for me it completes a makeup look. Different colours represent moods and how you’re feeling on a certain day and I love that.

Red lipstick makes me feel confident and bold and shows a fun, playful side of my personality. Up until three years ago I steered clear of red lipstick, not because I didn’t like it but I hadn’t tried it before and thought it would clash with my red hair – it totally doesn’t! Now a few years on I wouldn’t be without red lipstick, it is a timeless classic and every lady needs at least one in her makeup bag.

Christmas is coming up and if you want some red lip inspiration, look no further!

#1. Rimmel 107 – I purchased this beauty in March 2015 and it is one of my favourites from my entire lipstick collection! It is the perfect berry lipstick with hints of plum, cranberry and wine. The formula is matte but it’s not as drying as other matte lipsticks I’ve tried. Normally I apply Dainty Doll’s Wonderbalm before applying this and it keeps my lips from drying out. The pigmentation is superb and the colour applies beautifully and evenly. If you’re a Zoella fan, this is also one of her faves!

#2. MAC Ruby Woo – If I could only recommend one red lipstick to you it would be Ruby Woo. The hype and love for this shade is real because it is pretty much the perfect red. This red has been made to make teeth look whiter and once this shade is on the lips it gives them a velvety look. Out of the four lipsticks in this post it has the most drying formula but it’s nothing a lip balm underneath doesn’t fix. The colour lasts all day and the lip balm helps keep the lipstick in place and prolong wear time.

#3. Bourjois – Frambourjoise – This shade is more of a raspberry red and has pink undertones but it is still an absolutely gorgeous colour! I was intrigued by the formula and inspired to try these by Anna from The Anna Edit on YouTube – (previously Vivanna Does Makeup). The formula is a mousse-type texture and it doesn’t dry matte straight away so you’ve got time to apply multiple coats if you need and make sure application is even. I’m a perfectionist and like to make sure there is the same amount of product and colour on each lip. I like the small applicator as well, it allows for precision and gets right in to the corners of your mouth.

#4. Smashbox – Bawse – I won Bawse in a giveaway hosted by Nerdy Librarian Girl in 2016 and it is a very bold, don’t mess with me‘ red. Bawse is a collaboration between Smashbox and Canadian YouTuber Lilly Singh and I flippin’ love it! The packaging is simple but nice and the doe foot applicator is easy to use. It is bigger than Frambourjoise’s applicator and isn’t as precise but one coat of Bawse is enough, there is no need to touch up certain areas. I would say the formula is drier than Frambourjoise’s as well but both dry down to very comfortable, wearable mattes which last throughout the day.

Lipsticks In Action:

Left To Right, Top To Bottom: Rimmel 107, Ruby Woo, Frambourjoise and Bawse.

My Everyday Makeup Bag

Hi everyone! I have been meaning to write a post along these lines ever since I organised my makeup collection. I have a small-ish black and white makeup bag (which you can see in THIS post) that sits on my drawers which houses my favourite products. I define favourite as products I tend to use more often and products that I can always rely on for a go to look. This is essentially the crème de la crème of my makeup collection.

1. BYS Fuschia Surprise

This is my favourite lipstick and one I’ve mentioned many times on the blog, it needs no introduction. Fuschia is my shade and the formula of this lipstick is fab! It’s creamy and pigmented and is a steal at under $10.

2. Rimmel Kate Moss Nude Lipstick #45

There are so many beautiful nude shades out there and this is the most recent product in my bag. Again, the formula is really nice, the lipstick is comfortable on the lips and I don’t see myself getting sick of this for a while.

3. Bourjois Frambourjoise

Bourjois was my first foray into liquid lipsticks and this raspberry shade is incredible! This is probably the red I reach for most (even over Ruby Woo). The formula is like a mousse when applied but dries down quickly. The applicator is small which I prefer as it allows for more precision which is important when it comes to liquid lipsticks.

4. Tanya Burr Afternoon Tea

Afternoon Tea is probably the nicest lipgloss I’ve ever tried. The packaging, scent and shade is gorgeous. This lipgloss is the perfect light pink when you don’t know what to wear and you want lips to look naturally plump.

5. Dainty Doll Blushes

Billion Dollar Babies is the only cream blush in my collection but it is the most versatile and wearable nude shade. If my cheeks look like they are lacking something I tend to dab on a bit of this and I’m good to go!

You Are My Sunshine is the most gorgeous peachy-coral and a dupe for Orgasm by NARS. I tend to wear this more in the warmer months and it looks lovely paired with light pink and peach lip colours.

6. Maybelline ‘The Nudes’

This is the eyeshadow palette I reach for the most! I never get sick of the shades and the number of combinations they bring. This palette works for everyday and glamorous night-time looks. I honestly like the pigmentation, others have said it can take a while to build up but I don’t find that at all. The shadows are soft and apart from the matte black don’t feel powdery. This palette travels well too.

7. Max Factor Excess Shimmer – Copper

This little pot is my favourite eye product! The formula is like mousse and it doesn’t fade throughout the day. It has a gorgeous sparkle. I love pairing this over top of shades from The Nudes palette – it is my go to look when I don’t know what to wear.

8. Collection Lasting Perfection Concealr – 1 Fair

Since buying this concealer it is all I use. I, like plenty of other bloggers sing it’s praises! The shade is perfect for my pale skin and the formula has a nice consistency which feels moisturising. Cheap but definitely not nasty!

9. Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation | 010 Light Porcelain

I have been using this foundation for over two years now and it is still my top pick. When I’ve strayed I’m quickly reminded why I like it so much. The foundation is traceless and very natural on my skin which is how I like makeup to look. Another plus is the added SPF and pore blurring technology.

10. Rimmel Professional Brow Pencil in 002 Hazel

This is all I have used to fill in my brows for the past year. My brows don’t need a lot of attention and I like the natural look this pencil gives.

11. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Opal

I received this highlighter in Stashy’s giveaway and first fell in love with the size of it. I was worried the gold tones would be too much but a light hand makes cheeks look flawless. It doesn’t feel chalky or powdery and a little goes a long way.

What’s In My Travel Makeup Bag? | Winter Edition

What's In My Travel Makeup Bag - WinterI am one of those girls who loves applying their makeup and coming up with loads of different looks. I carefully plan out each look in advance (usually the night before) or pick a key product I want to incorporate. When I travel, it’s important the makeup I take is versatile and I don’t take more than I need to. I also like to bring tried and tested products with me. I did a What’s In My Travel Makeup Bag? when I went away in January after my birthday but I have made a few tweaks and updated the contents since then.

Face Title

Auckland Makeup - Face1. Simple Radiance Brightening Moisturiser SPF 10: I may have only worn this a handful of times so far but I have been impressed on each occasion. The size is perfect for travel as it won’t take up too much space and the fact this has SPF is another plus point as my Max Factor foundation doesn’t.

2. Max Factor Lasting Performance Foundation in 101 Ivory Beige: I went through a stage of not wearing this foundation for a while but using it again lately reminds me why I’m such a fan. It makes my skin look flawless and provides fuller coverage than Rimmel’s Match Perfection. I prefer this for traveling as a plastic tube is less hazardous than a glass bottle.

3. Collection Lasting Perfection Conealer – 1 Fair: I am running out of words and things to say about this concealer! In short, it’s great and it looks really nice paired with the Max Factor foundation.

4. I ♡ Makeup Goddess of Love Highlighter: I had to bring this along! (#highlightonfleek). This adds a beautiful, subtle glow to any look and if you want a bolder look, don’t apply blush and be a bit more heavy handed with your highlighter.

5. Rimmel London Professional Eyebrow Pencil in 002 Hazel: I wouldn’t go back to not filling in my brows after using this. It’s so quick and easy and I love how it makes my brows look.

Chanelle’s Note: Bronzer features in the picture but I didn’t take it as it didn’t fit in my makeup bag.

Auckland Makeup - Eyes1. Max Factor Excess Shimmer in Copper: This is one of those products I throw on when I don’t know what to wear and is one of those colours that goes with everything. I wear this a lot and I just love everything about it, how it applies, the staying power and how pretty and shimmery it looks on the eyes.

2. Maybelline ‘The Nudes’: My favourite eyeshadow palette had to come along for the ride! I am still singing it’s praises because I love how versatile this palette is; there are mattes, shimmers, cool tones and warm tones. This palette is also sturdy and compact which is useful for travel. I love layering shades from this palette with the Max Factor eyeshadow to create deeper, bolder looks.

3. Rimmel Day 2 Night Mascara: I’m sure you all know by now that Rimmel mascaras are my favourite! I’ve mentioned this a few times on my blog lately and so far so good, it gets the job done and I don’t have a bad word to say about it.

Lips Title

Auckland Makeup - LipsDay One: Tanya Burr – Afternoon Tea: I wanted something easy to maintain as I was flying early in the morning and didn’t quite feel like applying a bold lip at 6am. Afternoon Tea is such a pretty, everyday shade and easy to reapply throughout the day if required.

Day Two: BYS – Fuchsia Surprise (day) + Bourjois – Frambourjoise (evening): I opted for separate colours (both bold) for the two parts of my day, one casual and the other more glam. Fuchsia Surprise is my favourite out of all the lipsticks I own and because I’m wearing neutral colours, I want a pop of my best lipstick shade. For nighttime, I opted for a more glamourous look and went with a classic red lip! My footwear also represented each look, casual for the day, glam for the evening.

Day Three: Urban Decay – After Dark: I decided to pack another bold lipstick, this time more traditional berry tones of autumn/winter. Again, my outfit was very neutral so the colour wasn’t over the top and added to the wintery feel.

Day Four: MAC – Syrup: I bought this lipstick along because it is such a versatile shade. It would go with all four of the outfits I decided to wear, but I thought the pink/mauve tones would tie in nicely with the stripes in particular.

I noted which lip product I wore so you could match them up with my outfits. Do you agree with my lip choices for each of the four days?

That concludes everything that was in my travel makeup bag this time round! Let me know what you think of my choices and what products you include in yours!

July Favourites 2016

July Favourites 2016July has been a stand out month music-wise and I have also had a few personal achievements. Early on in the month I sat my Learner Licence test and passed, I got 33/35. I feel so much better now that I’ve taken the first step and next it’s time to actually sit behind the wheel and drive a car – still slightly scared about that! Also this month, I made the decision to get new glasses. I wore my old pair for over seven years but they’ll still be kept as my backup pair. There hasn’t been as much emphasis on beauty products for me in July. I haven’t worn makeup as much as I normally would because I’m not at work and I’ve been overwhelmed and distracted listening to a ton of new music!

Onto this month’s favourites:

1. Delta Goodrem – Wings of the Wild – Delta Goodrem released her highly anticipated fifth studio album this month (July 1st to be exact) and words can’t describe how amazing it is! I have been a Delta fan for a number of years and I’ve always loved her songwriting style and the way she words her lyrics. Wings of the Wild is a very empowering album, it makes you feel good when you listen to it but it’s also honest and raw. Delta has this incredible range and powerful voice which I don’t think she gets enough credit for. This album is definitely one of the best I’ve heard in a long time and will be one of my favourites for the whole of 2016. Standout Tracks: Feline, Wings, Just Call, In the Name of Love, Heavy and Hold On.

2. Rimmel London – Bestival Blue – I purchased this nail polish almost two months ago now and it further highlights my love for Rimmel. Firstly, the colour is a gorgeous periwinkle-cornflour blue and the formula of this particular shade is outstanding! It’s no fuss to apply and the colour lasted on my nails for nearly two weeks (using Maybelline’s Dr Rescue Top Coat over the top). I love the name of this shade and I urge you to check out if you’re looking for a new blue to try.

3. The Body Shop – White Musk EDT – I first mentioned this fragrance in my New In My Beauty Drawer post and I have been wearing it a lot in July. I love layering this with the White Musk Satin Body Lotion and I love that the scent lingers all day and doesn’t fade away or need to be reapplied. I would reapply if I was going out at night but for the day it’s fine. This scent smells lovely when first spritzed but it smells even better with wear time. Despite containing lily, iris and rose the florals aren’t overpowering and this is lovely everyday fragrance.

4. Bourjois – Frambourjoise – Until a couple of weeks ago I was a liquid lipstick and a Bourjois virgin. I had always been a bit unsure of the Bourjois stand in the past so I avoided it. I was aware however of the praise for Bourjois’ Rouge Edition Velvet lipsticks. I stood at the stand swatching away and I was drawn towards Frambourjoise  – a stunning raspberry shade. The idea behind the Rouge Edition Velvets is every shade has a red undertone or an element of red to it. I have worn Frambourjoise a handful of times now and I can see why people rave about them. The formula is so easy to apply and comfortable to wear and doesn’t feel drying on the lips. The pigmentation is awesome and the wear time is even better!

5. Lawson – Perspective* – Lawson are a band I got into through The Saturdays (Mollie used to date Andy) and I love Lawson’s sound because it’s so cool. Lawson are predominantly pop/rock but they’re very listenable and radio friendly. It’s been four years since Lawson’s debut album was released but the follow up is just as good and is worth the wait. Chapman Square will always be a standout but with Perspective, Lawson have really grown musically. The album flows cohesively and by the time it’s over you want to listen to it again, that’s the sign of a good album. Standout Tracks: Money, Rio, When I’m Old, Only Water, Roads and Used To Be Us.

*I purchased Perspective on iTunes which is why it isn’t in the title image.

6. kikki.K Cup: Vänskap – I made a small kikki.K order at the end of June and this cup is my favourite item from it. I’d been looking for a cute cup that I could have especially for hot drinks. Water is mostly all I drink but I do have the occasional hot chocolate and I do like a cup of soup in winter time. The entire Vänskap collection features cats which is adorable and I instantly fell in love with this cup. On the inside of the cup there is a quote, “Life is better with friends” and cats line the outside of the cup. The cup came with it’s own cardboard box which I keep the cup in when I’m not using it.

July’s Spotify Playlist:

This is another 50-50 playlist of male and female artists. All of these songs have such a good beat and there’s even a New Zealand artist on the bill! As always, enjoy!

Shop My Stash: Berry & Purple Lipsticks

Shop My Stash Berry & Purple LipsticksWelcome to the second post in my ‘Shop My Stash’ series where I talk you through my lipstick collection by colour. I have already done something similar for my nudes and I will direct you to Nude Lipsticks 101 where I discuss my favourite nude shades based on their undertone. The first Shop My Stash post featured Orange & Red lip products and it was a lot of fun to write so I decided to turn it into a mini-series. Berries and purples follow on from red so it seems logical to talk about them next. Let’s get started!

1. Revlon – Raspberry Pie

Kicking things off with another one of Revlon’s lip butters! At the time of purchase I didn’t have a lot of dark lip shades (and I still don’t really) so I took a bit of a gamble with this one. If I had to describe this shade I would say it’s a cross between MAC Craving and MAC Rebel – it has more purple in it than red so it’s not a bright raspberry but it still packs a punch. Raspberry Pie is a typical autumn/winter shade and I love wearing it then but I did wear it this past summer as well so it is versatile. The formula of the lip butters is incredible and I highly recommend anyone who suffers from dry lips to try them!

2. Urban Decay – After Dark

I have spoken about this lipstick on my blog on a few occasions. I won this lipstick in a giveaway and I was so excited to try out an Urban Decay product. When I won the giveaway I got to select my shade. The matte medium-dark berry pink tones of After Dark called out to me and I knew I was onto a winner! I often refer to this lipstick as Rimmel 107’s more purple cousin. After Dark is just as amazing as it sounds, it’s not drying at all for a matte finish and it applies like a dream. The lipstick doesn’t dry down completely and does have a little bit of transfer but that’s not a problem for me.

3. Bourjois – Frambourjoise

This product is the most recent to be added to my lip stash and it is blimmin’ gorgeous! This is your classic bright pinky-red raspberry shade and I can see it fast becoming one of my favourite lip products. Until this I hadn’t tried a liquid lipstick or any Bourjois products but this shade has got me intrigued and I’m already eyeing up Peach Club. I am a fan of the Bourjois applicator and the formula. The applicator doesn’t pick up too much product at a time and is on the smaller side really allowing you to be precise. The formula doesn’t dry down for a good 5-10 minutes allowing you to build up to your desired effect. One coat gives you decent coverage and looks more pink whereas two coats plus builds into a more vibrant red. I have worn Frambourjoise both ways and adore them both.

4. Australis – Gangsta Rap

This lipstick is always the one I get complimented on when I wear it despite my brother telling me, “they shouldn’t make lipstick that colour.” A couple of years ago I was on the hunt for a bright purple and this is the result. Gangsta Rap is from Australis’ Colour Inject Range which promises long-lasting, moisturising, nourishing lip colour. That is exactly what you get with this lipstick as well as the added benefit of Vitamin C. This is definitely one of the most bold, out there shades I own but it is also one of my favourites! Purple and I just have this connection and this lipstick reinforces the love I have for how much the colour suits me.

5. BYS – Sparkle Baby

Sparkle Baby is one of the most unique lipsticks I own finish-wise. It is described as having a diamond finish and aims to add shine to the lips, not in a glossy, wet way but in a shimmery, iridescent way. This lipstick is a grape shade with flecks of gold throughout the bullet which is where the shine comes from. It’s hard to describe but it’s not quite as intense as the finish of a Frost lipstick from MAC, it’s more subtle and doesn’t look as metallic. Sparkle Baby is such an appropriate name for this shade and the whole diamond thing makes me think of ‘Diamonds’ by Rihanna – “shine bright like a diamond.” This lipstick is also really moisturising and BYS have some great shades.

SwatchesBerry & Purple Swatches

Top To Bottom – Raspberry Pie, After Dark, Frambourjoise (it’s a lot more pink in real life), Gangsta Rap and Sparkle Baby.

Do you like the look of any of these shades? Perhaps you have a favourite berry or purple lipstick of your own?
