March Favourites + Highlights 2020

Literally on the first day of March I felt myself coming down with something. I had inflamed tonsils and a sore throat for most of the month and that resulted in two separate trips to the doctor and being prescribed two different antibiotics. I think I am finally on the mend now and getting back to ‘normal’.

I will be working from home over the coming weeks as New Zealand officially went into lockdown on March 26th for a minimum of four weeks. People are only supposed to leave home to pick up groceries, medication or if they are walking around the block for exercise. I hope everyone takes this period of self isolation seriously and thinks how their actions could impact others. It’s also important to be kind to yourself and find activities that make you feel good and keep you busy. If any of my blogging friends need a chat, I’m here.

Onto this month’s favourites:

1. Absent Melange Short Sleeve T-shirt Pink – The weather is starting to cool down now as autumn is properly underway but over the past few months I have loved wearing this t-shirt. I picked it up on Boxing Day for $10 and it’s such a good basic. It’s actually a men’s t-shirt and I also picked up one in blue. The blue is an Extra Small and the pink is a Small as there was no Extra Small left. Both fit really nicely – they’re straight cut which suits my body shape and don’t cling. The length is good and I like how the sleeves are a little longer too.

2. Viva la Juicy La Fleur – I purchased this perfume in August 2019 and over the past few weeks it’s the one I’ve found myself reaching for the most. As I have been sick most of March I wanted something light for the days I was able to go to work and this fits the bill. Viva la Juicy is a nice fruity floral with notes of mandarin, wild berries, honeysuckle, gardenia and jasmine with a creamy gourmand base. This is lighter and not as intense as the original VLJ if you’re curious about how it differs.

3. BECCA First Light Priming Filter – I got a 15ml deluxe sample of this in a BECCA travel set I purchased at the end of last year. This primer makes the skin lovely and dewy so if you have normal to oily skin or you like dewy foundations you’ll probably need a setting powder. I have used this primer several times throughout the month and I really enjoy it, the product feels lightweight yet hydrating on the skin. It soaks in quickly and all products sit on top of it nicely.

4. xoBeauty “The Heiress” False Lashes – I tried false lashes for the very first time this month and I wrote a post about my experience HERE. In February I purchased a couple of sets of lashes from xoBeauty and “The Heiress” lashes are the ones I was most excited to try! These lashes are medium length and give a beautiful curled, fluttery effect. The lashes look very natural on and feel incredibly lightweight. They were so easy to apply and I can’t wait to wear them again!

5. Max Factor Creme Puff Blush in 10 Nude Mauve – This blush is one of those staple shades everyone needs in their makeup collection. If you have medium to dark skin tones this colour may not show up well but for fair to light skin tones it is the perfect everyday blush! Nude Mauve is a brown-pink mauve with subtle shimmer and it can also be used to sculpt and highlight the cheekbones if you feel like skipping contour and highlighter.

March Highlights

  • Early in the month I met up with a friend who’s also an ex work colleague. We caught up for food, had plenty of laughs and good conversation. She’s one of those people where I can be completely myself and I know she’s always got my back.
  • Before the country went into lockdown I placed a final order with Dominos as I won’t be able to have takeaway food for a while. I don’t buy a lot of takeaways or food when I’m out but I wanted to get in while I had the chance.

Good call on getting in some takeout right before the lockdown lol, we forgot all about it, and now I can’t stop thinking about it! I also hope everyone takes the social isolation seriously, if we can stay ahead of this and flatten the curve, hopefully our healthcare system doesn’t get overwhelmed. It gets a bit scary seeing overseas how fast it went from not many cases to overwhelming amounts in such a short amount of time!

The pizza and sides were pretty good too, definitely worth the treat! I think it will be a week or two before things start turning around but I wouldn’t be surprised if the lockdown lasts longer than 4 weeks, better to be safe than people rushing back to work and out into the community and it spreads that way. I’m not sure whether we are doing badly compared to other countries or not…

OMG Nude Mauve from Max Factor used to be one of my favourite blushers, so cool to see someone else who loves it! It’s such a gorgeous shade, I love the mauve shade to it, my type of blusher hehe!! Sorry to hear you were poorly, but so glad to hear you’re doing better now ❤

Hope you're okay during this lockdown, it's an odd time, stay safe and positive and take care.

Also yay for meeting up with friends and Dominos pizza, sounds perfect!

I’m just starting to realize how many things we took for granted, like take out! I tried to order pizza from a 24/7 pizza place and they called back telling us they weren’t delivering anymore. How sad! I need to learn to make my own pizza I guess.
I hope you’re doing well, we’ll get through this! x

When take out places open again they will be rushed off their feet! I have homemade pizza with my own toppings too but I buy pre-made bases and just add my toppings haha, would love to try making pizza dough some day!

I am doing quite well actually, I’m pretty much a homebody and I’m finding the days nice and calm and overall feel less stressed x

Pizza dough is pretty easy actually! You just need to get some pizza yeast. I love doing the add your own toppings thing too!

That’s good! It’s a lot easier to adjust if you’re used to being home and enjoy being alone sometimes x

This pandemic is driving me insane. My brother in law isn’t taking this seriously and he literally goes out every single fucking day. Sorry for cussing. It’s just so frustrating and between my husband and I, we’ve tried to tell him how serious this is but he doesn’t even care…. he doesnt realize he is putting everyone at risk, and I’m not cool with that considering I have a child here 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️😫😫
    Anyway enough about me lol…
I love these favorites posts I’ve been seeing from everyone. I haven’t had the chance to sit down and see if I have any current favorites lol.
I’m hoping to add that primer to my “to try” list and those lashes are simply so gorgeous!

I feel your frustration! Compared to some other countries New Zealand isn’t as bad but mum and I don’t want to leave the house to get groceries even as we’re both asthmatic. People being selfish will make everything worse and lockdowns last longer in the long run 😦
Hope you get to try the primer! I can’t wait to wear the lashes again 😀

Can you still order takeaways? We can but mostly big pizza chains and I’m craving a Pad Thai🙈 I love MaxFactor blushes, I’ve got one that I havent opened yet. The lashes look lovely, I like softer natural sets. Xx

I always enjoy reading your monthly fav posts so much!!! The lashes are so pretty and look so natural, I think it is about time I treat myself to some new lashes! I so miss having takeaways, going out for food will definitely be one of the first things I do when this blows over. I hope you are staying safe sweetie, thank you for sharing! xxx

You always leave the sweetest comments on my favourites posts so thank you! I can’t wait to wear the lashes again and try the other pair I picked up from the brand too 😊 I’m not craving takeaways but everyone will be looking forward to having them and going out when restaurants etc re-open. I am taking good care of myself, I’m seeing this as a time to be gentle and kind to myself and I am grateful for the lighter workload and feeling less stressed xx

Ah, sorry you had been sick all of March! 😦 I love buying clothes from the men’s section, the fit is always so loose & comfy! & you always describe your perfumes so well– I wanna sniff them all! The blush sounds lovely, it’s nice when you can sculpt your face a bit but still skip the highlighter & contour. Also, glad you were able to hang out with your friend & order Dominos before the lockdown began! ♡

I’m just glad it wasn’t more serious and it hit before all the COVID stuff! I’ll definitely keep the men’s clothing tip in mind for future 😊
Yay glad you understand my perfume descriptions, sometimes I copy and paste bits and add my own bit in. I’m actually wearing the blush to work today ☺️
