My name is Nadine and I am the blogger behind Ladies and Lace; a home for my fashion, beauty and lifestyle experiences. I’m eighteen years old and currently call the beautiful Cape Town, South Africa, my home.
1. When did you begin blogging?
I had a blog in 2012, I think. I created that one out of boredom and I didn’t really know how to make use of WordPress so I eventually deleted that blog. I started Ladies and Lace on the 8th of October 2014.
2. How did you decide on a name for your blog?
I wanted the name to be a good representation of who I am and what the blog is about but I also wanted it to roll off the tongue easily when said out loud. Using alliteration became an obvious choice to me but I was struggling to find a name. My mom eventually came up with the name and I liked it so I went with it.
3. What inspired you to start your blog?
It was really my love for writing, fashion and beauty that inspired me. At the time when I started my blog I wanted to study medicine and it was a way for me to incorporate my love of the more creative things with my more scientific side. Blogging made me realise that I didn’t want to study something scientific after school anymore. It made me realise that I can’t put my creative side in a box.
4. What is your favourite thing about running a blog?
I love the interaction with people from all around the world. I have met some of the most lovely people through this experience that I would never have met otherwise so that has to be my favourite thing. I also really love that what I say somehow relates to others and creates a little support group. I received a letter from a friend a little while ago and part of the letter said something to the effect of how one of my posts made her change her way of thinking about life and made her feel better about herself. When writing more personal posts I often feel like it’s just me who benefits from that post but reading comments of support or personal stories from readers as well as receiving letters like that one I received really makes blogging such a special thing. It really gives meaning to the phrase, “You are never really alone.” There is a community to support you and you might not even know the person who is telling their story in the comments after you share something but it can really change your mind-set.
5. What are your must read blogs?
If I had to list all the blogs I love reading then I would be here typing all day and anyone who reads would be reading all day so I shall list some of my favourite famous blogs which I tend to read often:
6. What do you want to achieve with your blog?
I would love to blog as a full-time job eventually. I still have a very long way to go before that is remotely possible but that is definitely what I aspire to do.
7. What advice do you have for new bloggers? Tips, pointers etc.
Be patient. Nothing happens overnight and it is hard work but it’s so worth it. Interacting with other bloggers is very important too.
8. What keeps you blogging?
I love it. I love the people, I love fashion, I love make-up and I love sharing the things I do on my blog.
Quick fire questions:
9. What was the last song you downloaded or bought?
The Hot Damns – Wicked Games
10. If you could invite any three celebrity guests or famous people to a dinner party, who would they be?
Lisa Eldridge, Keira Knightley and Kristina Bazan.
11. Favourite colour?
Red.
12. What’s your guilty pleasure?
Dancing around the house in my underwear when no one is home.
13. Finish this sentence. I wish…
…I studied more in my first few years of high school.
14. Where else can readers find you online?
15. Lastly, is there anything extra you’d like to mention you haven’t already?
Come say hi to me on my blog, Instagram or Twitter.
